The most knowledgeable and helpful Lodge Manager – Steve Wakeman would get it. I will get back to Steve in a moment, but let me first discuss Pohara and the Ratanui Lodge. Pohara is a fabulous place to anchor your stay in the Abel Tasman region. There are great hikes easily accessible from Pohara and it is situated south of...

The rooms were comfy and clean. And the rooms stayed cool even during hot days. I feel as if I am echoing all of the excellent reviews, but it is a wonderful place. Across the road from the beach, you are within walking distance of two pubs and a small grocery store. And you are very close to the Abel...

While not the cheapest, this was simply exemplary. The room was superb, the setting a delight and the location just right. The evening meal was top quality and even the hotel dog - Meg- was a cutey.I would love to return as the surroundings are just so great. Steve, one of the owning partners, organised a kayak trip with Golden...

Our Ratanui experience started the second our group took the final step of our Abel Tasman walk. Having an icy cold beer being placed in your hand is a great way to make a lasting, first impression with your guests. This set the tone for the rest of our visit. Every element of our stay was top notch. The food...

We stayed during a sunny period in early Feb. Everything was perfect, from the warm and informative welcome as we arrived to the very useful loan of a hose pipe to clean down our car when we departed. We stayed in room 9. Each has slightly different decor, but all are scrupulously clean and well equipped. Bathrooms are spacious with...

Would definitely recommend the lodge to anyone whether you are a Kiwi looking for a getaway weekend or a Tourist to our beautiful country. Right from our first contact with Steve everything went smoothly. Steve is the ultimate host with an eye for detail and very welcoming. Before we arrived he had taken care of bookings for us regarding some...

We stayed here in January arriving in the rain after a long drive. We were welcomed with an umbrella and a pot of tea in our room. Nothing was too much trouble for Mike the duty manager during the whole of our three night stay. We ate there all three evenings and all the food and wine was excellent. At...

We were warmly welcomed by Marcus with a delicious cup of tea. He gave us excellent info on things to do during out stay. The decor is olde world charm, excellent quality and so clean. Steve opened the breakfast room early for us so we could get an early start. Lots of special touches like home made jams. The service...

We stayed here for two nights and immediately regretted that we couldn't stay longer (definately coming back here sometime again); the atmosphere is very relaxed, service was simply amazingly friendly and easy-going, rooms are decorated with beautiful antique furniture and breakfast was served in a lovely room with a view to the garden. Location was excellent near the beach and...

Fell upon Ratanui Lodge almost by accident, and wow what a find. Excellent location, both for the adjacent beach and for the wonderful places in and around the Abel Tasman peninsula. Marcus greeted us and gave us a clear 'must-do' list - each of his recommendations were spot on, including local galleries, beaches and sights. We had dinner at the...
