Over Thanksgiving break, we had a party of 8 that drove down to Big Sur from Monterey. We had stuffed french toast and a variety of eggs benedict. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was magical. We followed a road up the hill and had a beautiful view of the ocean.

Had great expectations for Deetjen's but the magic was unfulfilled. With cabins and buildings set within a grove of redwoods located on the east side of highway 1 (there is some traffic noise) , all the rooms, save one, are incredibly dark - the sun just doesn't shine on the buildings because of the density of the growth. Everything is... More

I stayed at Deetjen's for two nights. This was the second time I stayed there and both times were thoroughly enjoyable. As the title of my review says: Deetjen's is "unique, funky and unforgettable." Anyone who stays there must understand that this is not an "off the shelf" hotel that most people are used to staying at. Each of the... More

Deetjen's might not be for everyone but we loved it. The old and quirky cabins are tucked away in the redwoods and devoid of any electronics -- they're wonderful! You can enjoy short strolls around the grounds or head out for a short trip in the car to longer trails and the beach. The staff are fun and love their... More

I stayed one night in a tiny room. The property has a superb restaurant. 5 stars. The glade the buildings are in has a little waterfall and the view across the road is of the Pacific Ocean. When Kerouac was in a cabin in Big Sur it would have looked a like this. Pure Big Sur. Even Al Jardine of... More

Love the rustic and historic qualities of Deetjen's. The room we stayed in was surrounded by redwood trees giving the feeling of staying in a tree house. We ate dinner and breakfast in the fireplace room. I love that room! As a former resident of Big Sur, I have many fond memories of meals at Deetjen's in that room. Good... More

This was our first stay at Deetjen and it was lovely. It truly felt like you stepped back in time! I enjoyed learning the history behind the Inn and the Deetjen family. Be sure to walk through and see all the cottages! Everyone was so friendly and helpful! We stayed in the Little Room which was just enough space for... More

This place is magical! This place is tucked away in little forest nestled along the mountains side. It rustic and has NO TV or Wifi which adds to the rustic atmosphere of the Inn and it's peacefulness. Throughout the grounds, there are interesting and eclectic statues/artwork. There is a creek and a little hiking trail in the back. The blue... More

Deetjens was the perfect getaway in Big Sur. We stayed at Creek House, which we loved. There was a beautiful creek right outside our room along with beautiful tall trees. At first, it was a little surprising to be somewhere with zero cell phone service, no television and no WIFI but I think that's why we loved it so much,... More

My friend recommended Deetjen's for dinner as I was staying elsewhere. When it comes to food for me less is more.Whilst the hotel is charming and the staff are very attentive the food could do with a refresh. My beef carpaccio was not carpaccio as I know it. I hear the breakfast is good...
