Glen Oaks is a little pricey but there are much more expensive options in the area. The renovated motor lodge and Roadhouse were done with exceptional taste and attention to detail. We stayed two nights during a heat wave so unfortunately, we did not enjoy...More
WOW! What an incredible job they have done on every single detail! The cabins are super private, modern, chic and rustic. Loved the outdoor bathtubs next to fire pit - soaking under the stars and redwoods was such a highlight. Complimentary fancy s'more supplies (best...More
First of all, if you are staying here it is likely because you want the feeling of being comfortable in the great outdoors. If that is the case then do not bother with any rooms to the east of Route 1--they feel like they are...More
The cabin was tucked away among the redwood trees, near a stream. The firewood was placed with matches and ready to go every night for a wonderful fire. There was a bottle of red wine, and s'mores pack ready for campfire memories. We enjoyed our...More

Been visiting BigSur for 35 years, often staying at Glen Oaks. Room choice should depend on what you like best. Motel rooms have been modernised , have heated shower room floor etc., nicely appointed and are close to front desk,; but they are quite small, in two blocks, each of rooms connected by rather thin walls, and are very near to the highway so can be a bit noisy. Cabins are very different, nicely furnished, mostly more secluded and offering at least some self-catering kit though mostly only microwave......some near the river, which is good to lull you to sleep! I think two are "semi-detached" so check if you would really prefer not to have a connected neighbour....Of course it's further to the office and the roadhouse for breakfast or free morning coffee/doughnut too! We think best is the one called "The Cottage" which is on the same side of the highway as the office, very secluded, and the only one which has full kitchen including oven, giant Smeg fridge-freezer and it has a very very comfortable bed.
Your choice! Good luck.....

There is a massive landslide that closed CA 1 between LA and Glen Oaks Big Sur. It is supposed to reopen late summer. That is not a firm date. We went to Glen Oaks from Los Angeles in September 2017 and did have to take 101 to Monterrey then go south on CA 1. Still completely worth it. Check online before your trip to see the status.
