Get one of the cabins -- not the regular motel room. They are private and slightly old-fashioned in a good way, and right on the edge of the cliff. After dark, take a flashlight and climb the rocky slope behind the cabins to a lookout that showcases the Milky Way in all its splendor, and phosphorescent surf on the beach...

Unfortunately I didn't get to stay at Lucia Lodge but I'm writing this review because I feel that they deserve credit for being so flexible with me! I had a reservation for one night in January on my trip up the California coast, but a road closure at Ragged Point meant that it would take me many hours and much...

This funky little inn was discovered quite by chance when on a long drive from San Francisco, with a new love. We decided to stay here as it was getting too dark to drive on, and the Honeymoon suite was available, so we booked the room for the night, as well as dinner. The breathtaking views just outside our cabin,...

I love visiting my home state and eat out often. Lucia Lodge is a Beautiful place, fantastic view, lovely comfy room and ease of parking. Yes it is 50 miles south of Monterey but you do get away from the city lights and can see stars, sleep in comfort, listen to the ocean and eat good food at the lodge.

We stop at the Lucia Lodge every time we're on Hwy 1 and are always pleased. The fish and chips are worth the wait and the burger is fresh. Relax here and enjoy the view. Save room for dessert and be patient.

Yes, it is expensive, and no the rooms are not classic 5* standard - but with that location, and with that view it's all worth it! We arrived after dark, a winters night. Found our way to room #10, it was freezing cold and pitch black outside. Took a while to heat up the room with the stove. Luckily the...

I've never seen the stars twinkling in the sky like they do looking up from Lucia Lodge. And this is after hiking away from civilization in the Himalayas and the Adirondacks, hanging out in isolated beach towns in Australia, and camping on the edge of wildlife reserves in Tanzania. There is absolutely nothing within 10 miles north or south of...

I came here wanting a beautiful, quiet, simple, comfortable place. It certainly has a beautiful setting. But that's where the value ends. There was a noisy inadequate heater in my room that buzzed a loud electrical hum, so I could choose to be either warm or in peace, but not both. I got no sleep. The "partial ocean view" room...

Arrive before sunset to immerse yourself in the view. Regretfully, I arrived later than anticipated, with only enough time to cherish the last few minutes of the sublime sunset. Daylight is shorter in December, but staying during the slow season has its perks. The brisk air felt invigorating, but not intolerable: there is a gas heater in the corner, an...

The big selling point of this motel is, of course, the view. Situated right on a Big Sur cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the views are stunning both in the evening and the morning; at night you won't see much - there is no town or even building around in the vicinity of the motel, except for the cabins and,...
