The camp hosts cared about our visit, that we liked our cabin, that we caught fish, and that we enjoyed our overall experience. Thank you to Ian, Linda, and Kylie for their hospitality, great tips, and attention. This was our first stay at Horseshoe Island Camp and it will not be the last! Cathy, Cabo, and Ed.
Ian and his family are extraordinary hosts at Horseshoe Island Camp. From provisioning supplies from their store to providing navigational direction to find the hottest fishing locations, they have you covered. Breathtaking views, phenomenal fishing, comfortable accommodation, your own campfire pit and lots more to do and explore! The lake and surrounding area has plenty to explore, whether hiking, kayaking, paddle boarding or fishing! Everyday was packed with new adventures and excitement. Horseshoe Island Camp has left our family with many priceless memories!
We had a wonderful week here, just got home today. My boyfriend has been coming here for over 20 years. It was my first time. Accommodation was clean and spacious. We had good weather and lots of great fishing. Would definitely recommend this camp to anyone.
Our gang has been coming to Horseshoe Island for 35+ years and have always had a great time. Family owned. The fishing is very good to excellent and the camp is absolutely terrific. The housekeeping cabins have always been just clean, comfortable and well kept. The owners are great and people that our group regards as friends. Boats are in very good shape and we'll equipped. Mistinikon lake has a good population of walleye, pike and is a WORLD CLASS SMALL MOUTH FISHERY!!! Don't hesitate! You'll love this place
Had a great week. Great weather. Caught lots of bass, few pickerel and many pike. Had a great afternoon down at the Chute at the south end of the lake. Caught probably 15- 2lb bass, several pickerel as well. Cabins were great, very clean. Bugs were not bad as well. Ian and Linda and there daughter Kiley were great hosts. Lots of ice, worms, gas etc. Have some great Hats, shirts and mugs for sale as wwll. Highly recommend the Camp. May be back in the fall for some pickerel fishing. Gord
I've been to 5 star all inclusive resorts all over, 6 star cruises, many fishing trips but my trip of choice is by far Horseshoe island camp in Matachewan Ontario.. If you ever want to experience fantastic fishing and the best team of lodge owners and operators in Ontario you owe it to yourself to try this place. I think Linda is in charge of making things run smoothly, Kylie is in charge of carrying out all the day-to-day chores and I would say solving any complaints but I can't, there are no complaints at this place. I bet if you check reviews you will not find a camp with a higher rating than them . Top rating this year has to go to Ian he is behind the scenes who works sun up to sun down. On this large lake he is the one who marks the rocks with bouys to protect your engines he is the 1 who gets up early 7 days a week to get your minnows he has to bring in all the propane ice firewood which we all take for granted. They put in some taller toilets, bellows for starting the wood stoves all just added specialities but well appreciated. When we arrived this year he met me with a fishing rod and reel that I'd lost in the lake 2 years before that he had to go diving for. I'm telling you this place goes beyond what you would expect and I don't think we say Thank you enough. But Linda Kylie and Ian please accept our sincere thank you for all you do. Our week of fantastic fishing is because of you and we will continue to be your loyal friends Greg Dave & Glen…
Ian, Linda & Kylie were fantastic hosts and the fishing on the river was excellent. The accomodations were clean and had everything we needed, and any little issue or question that might have come up was addressed quickly and effectively by them. The location is incredible, and well worth the drive from wherever you're coming from. Be advised that it's an island camp, so you won't be making daily trips into town - but you won't want to. The setting is absolutely beautiful and the cabins, while all located in the same general area, still manage to be private and quiet (including having your own dock). This was one of the best vacations I've taken, and we'll be coming back again next year for sure.
just came back from 7 days fishing at Horseshoe Island. Fishing was amazing, lots of eating size Walleye, several 3-4 lb small mouth bass and fish for the trip home. Ian & Linda have done a great job upgrading the camp since they bought it and I already booked my fall trip for 2022. FYI I have been coming to the camp for 29 years... Dave B
I had heard a lot about Horseshoe Island Camp from coworkers on mine, everyone kept saying how beautiful of a lake it is, how clean the cabins are and even the fishing boats are spotless. I was blown away at the cleanliness of everything, and the service provided and the help to find all the good fishing spots was incredible! It was a 8 hour drive from our house but every bit of it was worth it! The fishing in lake Mistinikon was absolutely incredible! Horseshoe Island Camp should be on your list of places to go! I loved every minute of being there and i was extremely impressed at how clean everything was and how they took care of you! I would not hesitate to go back! Hats of to Ian, Linda and their daughter Kylee should be proud of the camp they run!
1981 was my first visit to Horseshoe Island Camp and this week again reminded me why 3 generations of my family keep going back. The fishing was excellent, my son enjoyed landing a 19.5 inch bass this year, good times! Also caught several pickerel and pike throughout the week. Great eating size! Endless options for any level of angler on Mistinikon Lake. The cottage, as always, was clean and rustic. Everything you need in excellent working order. The new sun shade on the deck was also a fantastic addition this year. Ian, Linda and Kylie are fantastic hosts, take pride in the business they run and we are looking forward to our next trip!
