Nestled on a picturesque beachfront, Bahia Principe Grand Tulum is celebrated by guests for its vibrant atmosphere, featuring silent discos and live shows amidst stunning natural beauty. The hotel's amenities, including varied pools and a family-friendly environment, garner positive remarks, although there's room for enhancement. Cleanliness receives accolades across the board, from the rooms to the grounds.
Opinions on value and service are split, with some guests facing extra charges and service hiccups. While the location's beauty is undeniable, its remoteness may not suit all.

We booked a 10 night 11 day stay at the Bahia Principe Grand Tulum as a getaway from the Canadian winter weather, and were a little less then impressed with the overall experience. The resort has apparently recently been renovated, and the rooms upgraded, but it appeared that all the improvements were done to the common areas, like the lobby and maybe a slight updating of the rooms. We had a junior suite, which while quite spacious, was not all that impressive. It had very dated furnishings, the bed was very hard, and just the finish was very sloppy. Paint on the tiles that wasn't cleaned off, bathroom caulking that was sloppily done, and electrical outlets that were kind of iffy. Also our patio door didn't lock, and it took three days for them finally come up and kind of fix it. It still wasn't completely secure, but gave a cursory impression of being so. After calling the front desk a couple of times, they asked if we were using the safe, to which I replied we were, but I had some expensive camera gear that didn't fit in the safe. Considering they have the usual warning about not being responsible for valuables left in your room, you would think they would at least ensure your room is secure. Also for some reason every time I showered there was a huge puddle of water on the floor that had to be mopped up with our towels. As for housekeeping, it left a lot to be desired. The room was never actually cleaned while we were there, and although we asked for our sheets to be changed after the third our fourth day, they never were, just made the bed up each day, and never cleaned the floors, which were filthy. There was also a layer of dust on every surface for our entire stay. Overall the outdoor areas were nice, with very nice pools, and lots of loungers available throughout the day, but not a lot of poolside drink service, so you have to trek to the bar to get your own drinks. Buffet food was decent , but not a lot of variety from day to day, however the sit down restaurants were very good, especially the Mexican, and Brazilian ones. The staff, for the most part are very nice, although the language barrier can be a bit of an issue when trying to get things addressed, but they are friendly, and a lot of them remembered us from day to day. The one real disappointment for the entire trip was the beach area, which is not very big, and the water, on most days is far too rough to actually enjoy or swim in. There was a strong wind blowing off the water almost every day, and they had the red caution flags up each day advising against swimming. We saw very few people actually in the water during our stay. I would say that from a star perspective it is just barely a 4 star resort, and closer to a three. We have made a few trips to different resorts in this area, and this was not one of our favourites. Not sure if we would visit the Tulum property again, but have heard that the sister resort at Akumal is much nicer, so maybe we'll try there next time.

We were in this Hotel and I really liked the quality-price ratio. It is good to know that the complex has 4 Bahia Hotels, which are Tulum, Akumal, Coba and Sian Kaan, and considering the others, Tulum was the best option because Coba and Sian Kaan are far from the beach and the buggies can take up to 15 minutes. Akumal is supposed to be better than Tulum but the Tulum Pools area is unbeatable. Maybe Akumal beach is a little better, but this beach is more crowded because of the Coba and Sian Kaan hotels. However, there are better and worse points: - Facilities (5 points): the hotel was renovated in 2020 and it shows. The condition is very good in terms of pools, restaurants, pool furniture, etc. - Theme Restaurants (5 points): good food and good service. We went to Tequila (Mex), Mashua Nikkei (Japan-Peru) and Don Pablo (Gourmet). - Buffet Restaurant (3 points): here I see room for improvement. While the quality is correct, the food is basically 90% the same every day, and that is not adequate for a 5*. - Staff (5 points): the waiters are pleasant and helpful, double everything at the Buffet. Special mention for the Deputy Director, Candela, who solved a problem for us quickly and super kindly, 10 points for her. - Beach (4 points) is narrow but sufficient. Sand on the shore, mixed with stones in the water. Hammocks and umbrellas abundant. Therefore, good, but it is not the typical Caribbean beach where it covers little for 100m. - Rooms (5 points, the new ones): here to say that in general the standards of 5* Hotels in the Caribbean are not the 5* European ones. Furthermore, in this hotel there are very renovated and slightly renovated rooms. We stayed in a very renovated 2-bedroom that I highly recommend, the difference in price is worth it. The unrenovated ones are not 5* but rather 3*. - Entertainment (5 points): many activities (beach volleyball, dancing in the pool, music at night), and the staff is constantly inviting you to participate.

My review of the resort is a little long, When i booked this resort, I started to read reviews on different sites and at times made me concerned but did not change as I remember that so many people complain about almost everything. So at the airport it was about 45 minutes to get through immigration and 45 for luggage. We then went and looked for Canada Transfer(highly recommend) and off we went. We arrived at the resort 5:15 pm and check in was all together 20 minutes and we upgraded to renovated room in block 10 and was a great location and close to all things. DO NOT look at the weather forecast as it can change every 20 minutes, yes we had cloud, rain and tons of sun and the wind was storng most days. The main pool was our to go area 1st few days but then we stayed in the area but went to the pool above the main and was quiet but you could still here the music which was nice. The entertainment staff(Erick, Alejandro) make it so fun for all guest of all ages and are a huge asset to this resort. The beach was very nice and I would say if you want water shoes use them but I found you will be just fine if you don't have them, also very little seaweed most days, the last 2 days there it was bad due to the very strong winds but they are cleaning before the sun is up and do the best they can. The food was good, we did 3 al a cartes, 1st was mikado and the food was just okay but the chef was a 10/10 forgot his name. 2nd was tequila and i was not a fan but my wife said 10/10 and 3rd was Don Pablo and would give it a 10/10 and staff were very good. The buffet Yukatan was good, had so much choice and never ran out of food like some people have said in reviews. We had Edwin almost every meal we had there and he makes it even better as he treats you like his own family. We did the bracelet upgrade for use of all resorts and I would say if you need it do or just book Akumal to start with, I was giving a deal but did not use it enough as we had more than enough stuff to do at Tulum. Also the animals are everywhere but makes the trip to see them and never felt on safe as they leave you alone and you leave them alone. So to end this review off, is this a 5* resort no, but I would give a huge 4* and if you are on the fence ignore everything you read and go as you will regret not going as this was our 1st time in Mexico and would come back for sure to this resort. Any question message and will do my best to help with it.

The resort ground were quite nice. The beach was beautiful - as good as it gets in the Mayan, but that is the only good part. We frequent the Mayan - having stayed at Barcelo (our favorite), palladium, dreams, hard rock and the Royalton. This is the worst one in terms of food quality, drink quality and rooms. Rooms are super basic: zero amenities outside a bar of soap and very cheap watery body wash, shampoo and conditioner dispensers. That would have been OK - but on top of it no room service. We really enjoy coffee and breakfast on our balcony in the morning, but no such thing at this resort.
In fact, the only place to eat breakfast was the crowded buffet where service was terrible and we found ourselves waiting in line every morning to get in. Not a relaxing way to start our day. I don’t understand why they didn’t offer quality breakfast at one of the waterfront restaurants. Total shame.
Also food and drink quality was incredibly poor - the drinks tasted like plastic or chemicals. Our kids love pina colladas, but we had to stop ordering them because they seriously tasted awful. The self serve drink stations for soda didn’t work, so more lining up at the bar all day long. If you order any drink with juice, it was a mix that tasted like plastic - orange juice, cranberry juice - all of them! Additionally, lunch food quality was also terrible. Hot dogs, hamburgers and nachos with fake cheese - no fresh guacamole to be found.
Additionally when we arrived, we went to book dinner reservations immediately, but were told everything was booked for the next 10 days. We ended up just showing up at sit down restaurants and managed to get it, as they were rarely full. The overall food and beverage experience was a huge disappointment and really ruined the resort. We will never be returning to a Bahia.

Disappointing Experience at Bahia Principe All-Inclusive Resort
Our stay at Bahia Principe was far from the luxurious experience we expected. Several issues made our visit frustrating and unenjoyable.
The bathrooms were extremely small, and the toilet had a persistent unpleasant smell throughout our stay. The buffet lacked food labels, making it difficult to identify dishes, especially for those with dietary restrictions. The vegetarian section was not separate and often mixed with meat, leaving the entire area smelling strongly of meat. The staff were rude and unhelpful. Multiple times, we requested basic things like spoons, napkins, or water, only to be ignored until our meal was nearly over. The Hindu Thali restaurant was highly disappointing, as the so-called vegetarian thali included meat dishes, which is entirely unacceptable. Despite requesting a change in pillows, there was no response from the staff. Room cleaning was inconsistent, often not done until late in the afternoon (around 4 PM). Most bars were restricted to premium members, leaving regular guests with limited access. Even the mini-bar in the room was poorly stocked, containing just two beers. The playroom games were chargeable, which seemed unnecessary at an all-inclusive resort. Overall, the experience was far below expectations. I wouldn't recommend this resort to anyone seeking a stress-free and accommodating vacation.

Me and my family stayed at the Grand Tulum between 24 Aug to 3 Sept 23. We have stayed at other resorts in Cancun including Sandos and Grand Palladium for comparison. BP is similar to the others we have stayed at, however having access to Coba made a nice change. The location is quiet a distance from the main centre, so you are limited to what what you can do away feom the resort. We enjoyed the food at the buffet and restaurants which had a good variety and quality of food on offer. Drinks were okay, a bit limited in choice compared to other all inclusive we have stayed at especially for the kids.
The beach was clean and nice, not as big as the others we have stayed at, activities offered on the beach which is ran by a separate company, didn't have much on offer and wasn't easily accessible.
Rooms are okay, we changed from a junior suite to their more recently upgraded one. The new ones lack privacy, also needs a bit a care and attention as shaving mirror, clothes airer all falling off the walls. The air conditioning is a problem, they fix the temperature which can mean it's either too hot or too cold depending on the time of day. One of our first rooms was stuck at 15 degrees day and night and could not be switched off making the night temperature very cold. The towels have seen better days as we got one on the first day threadbare!
We reported a number of issues to guest services, after a whole day at the pool no one had come to fix anything. However on my second attempt to get things resolved, Miguel from Guest Services was fantastic, he personally ensured each trade fixed the problems, coming to our room to check the issues were fixed. Making the effort to keep us updated by checking in with us at breakfast the next day. Miguel is a real asset to the hotel and many of his peers could learn a thing or two on how to make guestsl experience a good one. He was visibly there with all guests to help out, from a lost child to an incident with a buggy!
Over all a decent experience, reasonable facilities in the resort (good number of pools and beds) entertainment team working hard from morning to night to ensure guests had lots to do and creating a fun vibe with some really great food.
Staff at reception should be multi tasking to avoid unnecessary queues forming at guest services especially at guest services. Waiting staff, Bell boys and buggy drivers were all very friendly and helpful.

We put average of this review but would lean towards poor experience. We also went with family and friends. At the start at the airport, we booked and paid for transfer from airport and an ocean view at resort. We did not have a transfer available at airport, nor did we get ocean view (until 4 days after arriving). Trying to contact original person that took our money was a waste of time. This is NOT how you want to start your holiday. We have been at resort a many times. Rooms are very dated, bathrooms are not as clean as they could be, although the maids certainly work with what they are only provided. Toilet not working on first day in second room, no cold water, then later in visit no water at all. Eventually got fixed. Air Conditioner sounded like jet engine, never got fixed. Phone not working at times. When raining water poured through the door all the way passed bathroom (dangerous). Perhaps weather proof the doors. Toilets by pool areas often plugged and not fixed during day, toilet by main pool in Akumul was disgusting during day trying to accommodate pool users as well as beach area. Garbage in tree area behind our building sat for 2 1/2 weeks before picked up. A bathing suit and towel on back behind building for the whole 3 weeks of visit. Fridge in room could not accommodate a large bottle of water. Bookings at Ala carte restaurants were not accommodating, we booked for 11 people and tables were never set up for us and then when we arrived they could not accommodate us. This was even after we talked to guest services prior to the sitting with our request. All inclusive if you paid extra for food or wine, but not all inclusive. Food at buffets were often cold and/or not restocked. Often not signs to indicate what food was what. Tulum buffet/restaurant was iffy with all the coati and birds in restaurant area on tables, roaming around above the tables, very unsanitary and wondering if we should eat anything at all. Pools not cleaned as normal on a regular basis. We seen one day with a person with net clean pool by Dolci Vita. No vacuuming sand etc. 24 hours snack bar, not 24 hours. Trolley trains very slow between spots to go to. A positive, was we did speak to a Valentina from guest services and she made every effort to help us out, kudos to her as she was a big help on getting a few issues done. Also our maid and person that stocked fridge was amazing the whole time.

So my party of 10 arrived late on the 30th Dec, we had all already checked in via the app but this was still a lengthy process. The buffet is risky if you have any form of allergy, not enough serving spoons or labels and I have a fish allergy. When mentioned to the hotel instead of helping me out they just made me sign a waiver in case I had a reaction. Disappointed with the NYE set up, we were led to believe that we must have a table at a hefty price in order to be part of the celebration but on the night it turned out that there was free seating, I did complain and was offered 30% discount. Rooms are basic and our cleaners were hit and miss!! Always plenty of sun beds, the entertainment team are fantastic and fun. As the resort is so large they put on carts to ferry you about and they were very frequent. Drinks are ok, the cocktail bar in the lobby bar is by far the best drinks, Rony the mixologist is great, lovely drinks and so friendly. What is very frustrating is that the bartenders at the main pool bar pick and choose what drinks they want to make, I really liked the banana mummas but sometime they would make them and sometimes they refused. We had 4 rooms between us and 3 aircon units in the rooms worked well but my friends did not work, they complained several times including to the TUI rep, they came to fix it twice but it still never worked when complaining on checkout the staff member was rude, he said that nothing had been documented re the complaint therefore he didn’t believe we had complained and wouldn’t discuss any form of compensation for this very unpleasant 11 nights of hot rooms resulting in the door having to be left open causing mosquito bites and of course security risks. This hotel could be amazing just needs some changes!!

Hello ThePursers, Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback about your recent stay at Bahia Principe Grand Coba. We truly appreciate the time you took to describe your experience, as it helps us identify areas for improvement while recognizing what our guests enjoy. We regret to hear about the challenges you and your group encountered, including the buffet options for guests with allergies, the New Year’s Eve celebration arrangements, and the air conditioning issues in one of the rooms. These situations are not reflective of the high standards we aim to maintain. Rest assured, your comments will be shared with the relevant teams for immediate review and action to prevent such occurrences in the future. We’re delighted, however, that you enjoyed our entertainment team, the cocktail bar in the lobby with Rony’s service, and the convenience of the resort’s carts and sunbeds. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience you experienced, especially regarding the air conditioning issue and the response during checkout. This feedback will be addressed internally to ensure our processes meet our guests’ expectations and needs. This is the 3rd Bahia resort I've stayed at (Esmerlda and Runaway Bay are the other two) and it's overall the best of the three. My family and I stayed in mid December for a week. Adults were in a superior room which was modern and bright, and the kids stayed in a standard room which was older, but still quite clean. The rooms are all located in small villas located throughout the extensive and really nicely groomed property. There is a lot of greenery throughout.
There are multiple pool areas and they are all excellent. There are effectively two beach areas, one which is narrower and doesn't really have any swimming, and another on the side of the resort which is much larger and has decent swimming. There was no seaweed at all, and the water was nice and clear.
Service was excellent. Definitely a step up from the other Bahia resorts I've been to. Call 8585 if you have any troubles with your room and you'll get what you need, and staff will repeatedly ask you if you need anything else. Front desk staff were all really helpful. Bar staff are attentive and friendly. Waiters, even in the main buffet were all excellent.
The buffet food has a large variety and while you might not like everything you can always find something that you like. Even my picky kids had no trouble. The only knock on the buffet area is that there are quite a few birds flying, and even some small animals running around in the seating area. It wasn't a big deal for us, but keep an eye on your food lol. The roof in the seating area also needs some repairs and when it rains hard water leaks through in certain spots.
The restaurants we went to were all great. The Mexican restaurant had the best margaritas and daiquiris and service was really quite amazing. Our waiter literally was speed walking around the place ensuring everyone had what they needed. Make sure to log into the app before your stay (at least five days) and book the restaurants in advance (we were able to book 4).
In terms of night time activities, we did the silent disco which was a lot of fun, and made it to the 80's concert which was entertaining as well. We did a day trip to Xel Ha, which is thankfully close by.
Overall, it's a great property and made for a really nice vacation!

This has to be one of the best trip I’ve been on. The hotel/ resort itself is just so beautiful, clean and well set out. Our room was a suite and I’d recommend upgrading to this as its very spacious, 2 showers, 2 toilets etc. There are karts that take you from one end of the hotel to the other and can be a lifesaver on a hot hot day. The buffet food always changes with themed nights and it’s of a high standard. We stayed 10 nights and got 5 A La Carte visits. The Brazilian and Indian were our favourites. It’s best to book on the app 10 days before arrival as they are fully booked on arrival. For lunches we’d use The Truck Stop. Quick, easy food with the bar round the corner. Jorge who works there was very attentive and had a great way with all the guests. The entertainment staff do not stop day and night. Shows are incredible. We kept saying nightly ‘these people will be ok Britains Got Talent one day’. Egar? I think the entertainers name was, he was so friendly and hilariously funny. Cocktails were never a problem at any bar, the bar staff would suggest drinks for us to have. Maria at the lobby bar had a lovely personality and was fantastic at her job. My only grumble at the bars were people who were taking huge insulated tumblers and the bar staff having to make them all cocktails which caused a big queue behind. The pools are all warm, never got that chill when going into them. The nature all around is fantastic. There are iguanas, coatis, raccoons and lots of other species. The gardening staff work tirelessly to keep the resort looking amazing. There is the Hacienda at the bottom of the road with a constant market with pharmacy if needed. There is a show there most nights also. Beaches are spotless as men are out removing the seaweed every morning and make a great job of it. It is a long journey with TUI down to the resort so be prepared. We were itching just to get to the hotel by the end of the bus journey.
All in all, I would love to return to this hotel.
