As a couple we spent the last few days of our trip in Sri Lanka here, and we very much enjoyed the place. Staff is super friendly and helpful, the food was delicious, and the new swimming pool really added a big plus to the place. It was very clean, the location is good, close to the beach (which is quiet but popular with locals) and to pigeon island (amazing snorkeling). We also rented a scooter at the hotel for a very fair price and did our own little safari tour to some lakes close by where we found an amazing diversity of wetland birds and butterflies. In short, whether you prefer nice food, chilling at the pool, beach, or nature: try this hotel!

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Crescent Sea Resort in August 2018. It was just what we needed after a tiring journey. We were travelling as a group of 30, and Crescent provided us with perfect place to stay, taking care of all our individual needs. The Hotel site is big enough so one doesn't feel crowded. The food was fresh and homely. The rooms and toilet were perfectly clean with every need thought of. It was close to the sea and trips to pigeon island (great for snorkelling)..

The rooms are large and clean, and the staff super helpful. The chef Ganesh was amazing and every meal was a Sri Lankan delight. The hotel is less than a 5 minute walk to the beach, and the beach is beautiful! All the locals from Trincomalee come here. They’re in the final stages of installing a swimming pool (hope to be open before end of December 2018) and this will make the property even more attractive. We highly recommend this hotel.

It was the low season so it was just the 4 of us at the resort. The rooms are lovely, spacious, clean and have great fast wifi. The staff are all so kind and attentive. The food was the biggest highlight. They have a new chef who is amazing. Every dinner and breakfast was different and decided every day based on what we wanted. We had some of our best meals in Sri Lanka, and the pricing was reasonable. When we were there they were just completing the new swimming pool, and it will be done by Christmas. This will be a big benefit for guests! Great stay, wonderful staff, amazing food!

Very disappointed when we arrived here. We booked a six night stay through booking.com and were quoted a price in the website with breakfast available of $0.05. When we were arrived we were told the price for breakfast was $5 pp per day and that 'lots of people get confused by this, will will be fine with it when we understand' but after scouring booking.com it seems it was just a mistake they hadn't rectified with them. The room was fine when we checked in but nothing special. When taking into account the breakfast price, this hotel isn't very good value for money. The main benefit of this hotel is it is near a lot of the restaurants, however we didn't feel that was a good enough reason to stay. We felt we had been mis-sold the property. We ended up cancelling and staying at a cheaper hotel for three nights which includes a good breakfast and was nearer the beach. We then stayed at a nicer hotel for the other three nicer which was on the beach and absolutely lovely.

We planned a few days of relaxation at Nilaveli and chose Crescent Sea Resort because it was an easy walk to the beach and not too close to noisy pubs and backpackers. The architecture has a bit of a Portuguese feel to it, there's a separate dining area and also are shaded tables within the gardens where you can enjoy your meals. The staff were fantastic, food was great, they even cooked something we requested that wasn't on the menu (with 24 hours notice). The room was comfortable with a writing desk, luggage racks, aircon and ceiling fan, a good-sized bathroom and a lovely balcony. The beach was generally calm with an occasional surf-able wave breaking close into shore and the hotel is located close to the launching point for the Pigeon Island boats. There are numerous other attractions in the area accessible by car or tuk tuk but our plan was to chill out so we didn't explore beyond the beach. We were a little surprised to find half of Sri Lanka's bus fleet in the public carpark opposite but enjoyed watching the comings and goings of the school holiday day-trippers from our upstairs balcony and they were all gone by about 7:30pm each evening. There was a market alongside the carpark and the beach was quite busy at that point, not so busy at the other end of the block (to the north) where the hotel staff recommended we swim.

We enjoy a 1 night stop on this hostel and we were hosted like prince by all the staff. No swimming pool, but the sea is at 1 minutes by foot. We wait a little bit for the lunch, but it was correct and purpose us to enjoy the Koththu festival on dinner, but we took it on another restaurant. The price is high, but seems to be related on the situation (start to Pigeon's island right on the beach) and the tourism.

Positives: - Large, clean rooms and comfy beds - Hot showers - Very friendly, helpful staff - Food on site does the trick - Can pay by card Negatives - No Triple option - Wifi was almost non-existent - Nilaveli is a beautiful beach, but very quiet area - not as much going on as nearby Upaveli - Costs of dolphin watching and snorkelling should be given upfront. We don't really appreciate being told one thing and then having all these additional costs, 300 LKR for snorkel, 300 LKR for fins - its a given that people travelling will usually not have snorkels, so please ensure that all costs are upfront. Advice: Get a load of you to hire a boat together to keep the costs down; we paid about $50 for two of us to go whale watching for a few hours.
