Wild Lubanzi is located on one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline you'll find in the Eastern Cape. This is a place where you come to disconnect from it all, go on long walks, and enjoy nature. What I liked about Wild Lubanzi is that it doesn't pretend to be something it's not - this is a relaxed spot... More

Thank you for your review. Since the Backpackers is not just a business but also our home, we hope to keep the friendly and homey atmosphere alive. While I am writing this, a cat sits on my lap and two others sleep beside me on the bench and on the table ... the luxury of a simple, quiet life. More

Remotely situated with an amazing view on the coast, Wild Lubanzi is a great experience if you know what to expect. This is a family-type place where everybody eats dinner together, surrounded by all kind of animals. This is certainly a deep Transkei experience where you can combine hiking, tranquility and fun friendly evenings. The dorm rondavel was confortable and... More

We arrived here when we were hiking the Wild Coast, coming from Coffee Bay. I can honestly say that this is one of the most genuinely relaxing places I've been in the world. The view is stunning. There's a great atmosphere in the place. You can stumble down to the beach if you like. One of the first things I... More

I went to Wild Lubanzi only an afternoon to eat there and I must admit that you are not able to do anything there except watching around you and breathe. There is no more "time" there. It is absolutely wonderful, the kind of place you would like to see one time in your life. Besides, we were eating there, with the... More

thank you so much for this glowing rewiev!!! a little correction, though: food is not always free, only lunches. We still charge for dinner and breakfast, but we started doing free lunches to promote the "food is free" movement and to raise awareness for natural, home grown food. Its perfect, lovely people in a beautifully built comfortable house on a green hill that falls to a river mouth that runs into a sea that rolls onto a perfect beach. Its my favourite backpackers. Or any other place to stay. If it doesnt make you very happy you should not be backpacking.

Remote backpackers usually promote the development and goodwill of the community they’re located in but if you thought the same ethic goes for their establishment think again. When you stay at Wild Lubanzi brace yourself for belligerent staff that will make you feel extremely unwelcome before you even set foot at the backpackers. The management were extremely rude over the... More

Hi Hein I suppose I must thank you for proving my point. We made an exception for your group, and... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Whether you choose a crazy dorm or a cozy double room - everything in this place has been lovingly renovated and hand crafted. Now this is the Wild Coast, so we keep it simple and rural. Almost all showers are solar heated, which means: hot showers only during the day. In the main house there is a rocket shower, a parafin heated tube that roars like a rocket and provides hot water. Our tap water comes from a nearby spring, and the drinking water comes directly from the sky. We have an organic garden where we grow vegetables all year round. Help to pick or dig up your delicious dinner or cook your own food in the fully equipped self-catering kitchen. At night get a fire going in the braai place and sit on the veranda chatting in the light of parafin lanterns. Electricity is provided by solar panels, for the lights in the house and for charging cell phones and other gadgets. We do have free internet! Activities includes the word "active" which is not everyone's choice - after all, this is the perfect place to just relax and hang out and let all stress drain away. The beach is just down the hill and sheltered by cliffs, so grab your towel and have a snooze in the sand - or would you prefer the hammock on the veranda? If you DO feel active, take a stroll around, explore the other beaches or the nearby river estuary (all within easy walking distance), go swimming or snorkeling or fishing, walk to the next shebeen (local tavern) to drink beer and chat with the locals, collect shells on the beach ... Or bring your mountain bike and conquer the hectic 4x4 tracks ... ... more   less
