Very helpful and intelligent staff... I arrived for work problems after the reception closed, they put the keys in a useful place so I didn't sleep outside... Large room and although dated, bathroom with everything you need... Great cleanliness, breakfast is sweet and savory. Strategic location since the next morning I loaded customers in Bellagio (18 minutes drive from there). Definitely will be back if I return to pick up customers on Lake Como early in the morning... Correct price. Recommendation

Il Nibbio is a great hotel if you want value and a good alternative to staying on the lakefront properties of Lake Como which you will pay through the nose for. You will need a car, but you pretty much need that unless you want to just get around the lake by boat and not see anything else. If you like driving the 6-8kms drive to Bellagio is stunning with twists and turns not for the feint hearted. Close by is the famous Madonna Del Ghisallo Church world renowned with cyclists. The staff are friendly and more than accommodating, the owner has a nice Wine shop in Bellagio and can have any bottle sent to your room for the same evening. Some rooms have a nice balcony terrace. I believe it is a 3 star but is not a 2 star pretending to be a 3. Breakfast was great and ample as far as continental breakfasts go. The rates are very good in my opinion.

Hotel is located in small village which is not particuraly interesting so if you don't have a car or motoped or anything to be very mobile, you're stuck.
It's typical B&B - you're getting what you're paying for. Rooms are quite clean and comfy, big enough to not get claustrophobic. The drawback may be the bathroom - VERY small and in ours there was quite nasty mold in the corner of the shower - not pleasent thing at all. I think this might have been the reason for unpleasent stink in the whole bathroom as well.
Absolutely advantage of the place is a very helpfull staff - especially the Manager lady who gave us the most valuable tips regarding where to go and do. E.g. we would have never got to Pescallo without guidance and it was one of the best spots in the region.
Breakfast was quite rich as for Italian standards, differential enough - sweets, hams, fresh bread, fruits, cakes. Very well serviced as well - not had to wait for anything.
Internet is free and the signal very well - router just outside my room - good enough for browsing and checking the mail or watching youtube.
I was a little bit concerned about lack of airconditioning in rooms. I shouldn't have been at all. Although it was 36 during the day, nights were cold enough to have comfortable sleep with open windows. And no mosquitos at all :)
There is a small parking just at the entrance - convenient enough for unpacking stuff from the trunk. Just 50 meters along the road there is bigger, public and free parking (be aware - after 17.00 - 18.00 it used to be full).
Definitely Bellagio is the main attraction while you are accomodated in Il Nibbio - it's 10-15 minutes trip via steep and very curly roads - going there was funny for first 3-5 times, then started to be annoying :)
So Il Nibbio is a great base for spending time mainly in Bellagio - although you have to take into account additional spendings for parking place - Bellagio is full of cars, especially in high season, so forget about free parking spaces - be happy finding paid one and it's 1.5 euro per hour. So the whole day in Bellagio means at least 10 euro extra...
Forget about buses or any other transport means - only car or motoped. I'm not a bicycle man but as far as going down to Bellagio would be only the pleasure (all the way down), getting back would be different story - up the hill all the 10 km way...not for holiday bicyclers I think.
One remark - although Tripadvisor says hotel is trattoria as well - it's not true. Unfortunately they closed the trattoria so if you want to eat something - Bellagio or a few local places.
About 5 minutes walk from hotel there is a small, very well equipped grocery store.
And last thing - in the whole region you have to be aware of the fact that restaurants are open by midday and then just after 18.00 - 19.00. We had though time one day trying to find open place to eat something about 17.00.

Stayed at the Il Nibbio for 2 days. Great price, clean rooms. Extremely friendly and hard working staff. The son of the owner stayed up until 2 am, as we were arriving very late. They went out of their way for us. Very much appreciated. I definitely will return for a stay sometime soon.

Stayed here for 3 nights at the end of sept and we loved it. There was only a handful of guests. We saw one other couple on our third breakfast and we both looked surprised to see each other. We had a huge room with a huge balcony. Amazing as we paid €49 a night. We saw in next door and this room seemed very small, so it may be hit and miss. When we arrived at approx 7pm the woman who greeted us spoke no English, but we sorted everything out with her speaking in Italy and gesturing. Superb! The next day another lady arrived who spoke English. We liked the location away from the lake, lovely and quiet, but it won't be for everyone. You need a car though. We had a problem trying to find a restaurant as everything was either closed or had no customers in. We went to a local pizzeria and ended up getting a takeaway twice. After this we then drove to the next town to find a restaurant. It was the end of the season though for here. However, the hotel was very clean, staff polite, room excellent. Breakfast was really good too, a good cold selection. Bread, cake, croissants, yogurts, salami and cheese, fruit. Safe in the room. Wifi worked well in the room. Definitely worth the money.

Loved it! The weather, the food, the place everything was delicious. If you like quiet places with amazing views this place is for you!
It was an old house but refurnished, almost like a movie. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the only bad thing is that I would have liked to stay longer!

We stayed for two nights at Il Nibbio on our stay at Lake Como, its location is good if you're driving, as it was great fun to drive down to Bellagio where we rented a boat and had a very relaxing time at its restaurants. We also visited the city of Como which was about 30 minutes away. The room was a bit too small for our likings but very clean and with a good sized bathroom. Breakfast was continental and good.

A great stay with lovely and helpful staff! We arrived an hour before check-in time which posed no problem whatsoever. The lady who checked us in didn't speak a lot of English and my Italian is quite rough, so we found that Spanish worked quite well instead...
The room was quite small (but why would you need a large room to sleep in?) and the top lid of the toilet seat had a tendency of closing itself...
But no more negatives. Great staff. Great breakfast. Great surroundings. Comfortable bed. Really close to everything including restaurants, grocery store and the Museum of cykling. Me not even interested of cykling stayed for 90 minutes... I even did the hike up to the cross and got some wonderful views of the lake from up there. It's a fairly steep climb, but well worth it once there...

As a mid-30s, active couple, with a rental car, we thought this hotel was a real bargain. The location was peaceful and the breakfast was ample...cheese, meat, fruit, yoghurt, bread, biscuits, cake, cereal, coffee, tea. The room met our needs, with it being clean, ample storage, not poky, and the bed plenty big enough for two, which was actually the cheapest room option but still absolutely fine. The shower lacked water pressure at times, but being on the second floor, that was to be expected, and at £247 for the week, you can't quibble. There was off-road parking nearby which was helpful. Our room on the 2nd floor was fine for us, though a less mobile couple may have wanted to make sure they got a ground floor room as I don't think there was a lift.
You did need a car, but once you'd accepted the "enjoyment" of the Italian roads, with a car you could easily get to Bellagio (11km drive) or Como (approx. 40km), both places where you could explore and also get ferries from to many pretty places and we had many enjoyable walks along trails, roman road, tracks, through forests, along the lake side, up hills getting some amazing views.
The hostess was lovely and went out of her way to help you. She spoke much better English than my Italian and gave us some very helpful information about where to explore. The hotel gave a discount for the 2 local restaurants, both of which were only a few minutes away from the hotel. I would advised booking, certainly in the Restaurant Fontenalla. The hostess was more than willing to sort out the reservation for you. There was also good value 2 course meal on offer at the hotel, which was very tasty and once again the hostess went out of her way, amending the ingredients so that my vegetarian boyfriend didn't go hungry. The hotel's toilets were very clean and hygienic. There was a lovely little bar in the reception of the hotel, where you could enjoy a drink before and/or after your evening meal, and prices were very fair, slightly better value than in the restaurants.
I thought Il Nibbio was a real gem and ideal as a base to have a decent breakfast meal to start the day and get out and explore Lake Como and it's surrounding areas. Bravissimo!
If you like running, read on. Only 1km from the hotel you can run 5.5km uphill and probably then walk the last 2k (very very steep & off-road for last 2k), giving you 2700ft of ascent. This takes you to San Primo and above, to get some amazing views, as well as a good way of working off the gelato.
