From the moment we walked in to the time we left, we were blown away by the peace and serenity that Gaia Riverlodge possessed. Not only was the staff friendly and accommodating, they were kind and inclusive. The massages by the falls are a must, as well as breakfast, lunch AND dinner at the resort. We were really blown away by our experience. All the staff were world-class. * Stay in the Mountain Suite Note: Be prepared to work for the resort by way of travel. It's not an easy

Hotel's Favourite
First of all, I loved, Loved, LOVED everything about Gaia, the staff, the grounds, the views EVERYTHING!! When I began booking the trip it was meant to be a solo trip but my aunt decided to join me. We were both looking for a place to disconnect, get away from it all, and that is exactly what Gaia delivered. Driving to Gaia I was questioning my decision because you turn off a main road for a dirt road with nothing in sight, then appears a perfectly manicured lawn and my breathing returned to normal, Lol… I choose right!! Beautiful were our first thoughts and it just kept getting better!!! From the moment we arrived we were greeted with cool beverages and towels with eucalyptus - so needed after our journey to get there, lol (that’s a story in and of itself ). Check in was easy and our room was gorgeous, tucked away with views of the forest and beautiful variety of birdsong which I love :)) The food was amazing from breakfast to dinner, everything is made and sourced locally. Just being able to sit in such beauty while dining is a treat by itself, the views! However, with all the wonderfulness in the aforementioned is nothing in comparison to the absolutely incredible staff they have!! I learned so much about their culture, the very diverse culture of the Belizean people. I loved the conversations I had no matter how brief or long, everyone from our tour guides, servers, bartender, housekeeping, groundskeepers, front desk and management staff - all stellar! Thank you to our servers Daren, Freddy, Lucy, Shawn and to Azel mixing it up at the bar!! Major, major thank you to Nigel (GM) and Loreni for ensuring that we made it to Guatemala safely, my aunt and I had no plan as for transfer from Belize into Guatemala, Lol. We thought we’d wing it, OMG, thank the heavens Nigel followed up on that as we we’re checking out, he assured us he find us transport and he did, called our Gaia driver while en-route with confirmed transfer :)) thank you sooo much, I will be back and I highly recommend Gaia next time you need a get away!!

Excellent service and attention to detail. Every staff member from gardeners to front desk staff and waiters were very personable. They all knew our names and what we had done that day and were sure to ask us if we had enjoyed it. The staff were also very diverse in their previous experience before and during their time at Gaia, so they brought a wide range of different perspectives on life in Belize for those interested in learning more about the culture. One of the night staff was even a magician, and a very talented one at that! Food was outstanding, especially the pastries and fresh breads. Our room was fantastic with beautiful views, and we saw a few toucans right outside our window one morning. The best part of our visit was Coco, she accompanied us on all of our adventures around the resort.

Dear H1759CYstefani Thank you very much for your positive feedback. We appreciate your time to share this review and we are truly happy to know that we amanged to impress. For your next visit you should consider a combination with our sister property Matachica on the Caribbean shores of Belize, you will meet Cocos brother Taco there. Instead of going on hikes he rather floats around on a paddle board. Life is a beach! Again, we thank you for your praise and we look forward to welcoming you again, in either corner of the country. Best regards Wolfgang Brandl Director

All we can say is WOW — Gaia Riverlodge left a wonderful impression. Truly magical, and by that I mean the hotel itself as well as the professional and courteous team. From Nigel and Kobe at reception, Freddy and team at the restaurant, to Elias on the grounds, all went worked to ensure our stay was a delight. Including the property’s mascot, Coco, who expertly escorted us through the nature path! Highly recommended!

My wife and I loved Gaia, where we stayed for four nights in March. (As a Small Hotels and Resorts member, it has an affiliation with Hyatt, so sometimes rooms are available for points.) Beautiful setting overlooking the river. Great views and fine food and drinks from both inside the restaurant and on the lovely terrace. Great service and staff. A number of nature/tourist activities to indulge in, some free and some $$$. But if you just want to hang out and be lazy, it's a fantastic place to do so. An activity we liked was the early morning bird watching, which takes place totally on the hotel's grounds. The guide was excellent. One thing they don't advertise that they should is that they light a fire pit in the evenings, though sometimes guests might need to request this. We found it a fun place to hang out and chat with several other guests. One of the staff members is also a fantastic magician (and a very nice guy)! Again, they don't advertise this but should. Ask at the front desk abotu arranging a show. Another thing we did that might not have been mentioned at the hotel's site/activity list was get a ride (which we shared with another couple) back and forth to the nearest (small) city, San Ignacio. I don't recall the price, but it didn't seem exhorbitant. San Ignacio is not a beautiful town or one that features many activities, except for a market some days. But it was a pleasant, clean place to get lunch, wander around and hit a few tourist shops. One street in particular, near the small park in the center of town, seemed to feature such shops. Also, just being in an apparently predominantly Mayan town was kind of interesting. Yet another thing to do was a walk to a small nearby waterfall and swimming area. Be aware that it's a somewhat steep walk down from the road to the falls. My wife liked it: I didn't. To my mind, it didn't offer anything different from what you could get at the hotel itself far more easily. We booked a Garden View Cabana on Hyatt points, then contacted the hotel to upgrade for cash. For the first two nights, we upgraded to the Watrerfall View Cabana. It was quite nice, but just a little disappointing in that there's only one comfy chair by the window to take in the view. The last two nights, we stayed at the Riverside Villa. Wow! Let me say that again: Wow! The photos on the site don't do the Villa justice. A spead-out house, well-screened, situated on its own right by the river, with a hot tub. hammocks and lots of different places in which to hang out. One of the nicest places we've ever stayed. (But to be clear, we would have loved Gaia even if we didn't stay in the River Villa.) The one small drawback is that you're a truck ride or decent hike down a hill from the main resort. But it's easy to get rides back and forth, or to simply have any room service meal brought down to you at the Villa. Our only regret about our fantastic stay was that we didn't spend all four nights there. The Villa is very private, but also an easy walk from the hotel's pleasant swimming/wading area by the river. But if you're in the Villa, you have not need to visit that area anyway. There's a nice, hour-long, mostly shaded nature walk you can do down from the resort to that wading area, with the very friendly hotel dog probably accompanying you. Again, it's a decent amount of up and down, so probably best done if only if you're in decent shape. In booking Gaia, you actually go through the company's main office, which I believe is located at its sister resort, Matachica. Upon our arrival, there was a small kerfuffle over our planned bill, but it was straightened out easily once Gaia contacted that main office. I'd recommend bringing with you print-outs or easily available online copies of your booking arrangements. We arranged a ride to get up to and back from the resort. It was a nice trip with a great driver (who also does the morning bird watching tours). There's a pretty good tourist shop/cafe on the way if you're interested. Except for the last few miles, the route to the resort is now paved. So if you'd rather rent a car, it's pretty drivable. For our purposes, though, we didn't want one. I'm sure Gaia is nice all year round. But it's nicest when driest, which is why we went in March, I believe the driest month of the year in that part of the country. All in all, very highly recommended!

My wife and I had a great experience here, between the staff and the different tours/guides you can’t go wrong. Beautiful views and amazing food. I highly recommend! We spent each day hiking, swimming by the waterfalls, learning history at the Mayan ruins and different cave sites. If you want an adventurous and luxurious experience Gaia has it all.

We had the best time visiting Gaia! It is a little bit of a drive to get from the airport to the lodge, but worth it to be nestled deep in the rainforest along the beautiful waterfalls and breathtaking views. The lodge is not air conditioned, but the fans at night helped keep it comfortable. It's cooler in the rainforest than the ocean side too. The staff was amazing. Since it is a smaller resort, they easily know your name and your preferences. The food is fresh as most comes from the garden onsite. We spent our days hiking the nature trail on site, walking the 1.5 mile to Big Rock Falls, swimming in the falls on site and did take a day trip to the ATM Cave. Keep in mind, you are tucked in the jungle, so most if not all of your food and drinks will be at the restaurant on site. We really enjoyed the Chefs Dinner hosted one night, including a 5 course meal of local Belizean favorites. The trolley up and down to the falls is a lifesaver. Don't forget the walkie talkie to have staff bring down refreshments. We also loved Coca, the lodge's friendly pup who, if youre lucky will take you on a private tour of the Nature Trail!

What a special place! The perfect balance of luxury (white sheets and towels, mahogany floors, friendly and attentive service, fantastic cuisine, purified water everywhere) and rustic charm (river swimming, no A/C but lots of screened windows and fans, no phones or TVs). Good cell phone reception and WiFi. Lots of steps down to river so not a good spot for people with mobility issues. Amazing tours and tour guides to local attractions, best of which are the Mayan ruins. We are already planning our next trip back!

I visited Gaia for an anniversary celebration. The drive to Gaia is so comfortable given the improved roads. Once at the resort, the amenities are quite luxurious and staff very attentive. We spent two nights and there's lots to do. You can comfortably spend more nights and be engaged with on grounds activities and other activities around the area within walking/biking distance. The falls are great and safe. The food and bev choices are 5 star. The bar produces some spectacular cocktails that you must try....truly innovative mixology in action. The dining experience is excellent as well. The culinary choices are very interested and quite tasty with decent portion size. As I said, you can spend quite a few nights and get a different culinary experience every night. Let me give special mention to Lucy...one of the servers; she is ace. Kobi is very engaged at front desk and helpful with his concierge services. Chris is an up and coming amateur magician that can provide you with a nice little entertainment for one of your nights when you are enjoying a cocktail creation. Your room will have a fantastic view...the way the facilities are laid out, everyone wins. Great amenities and super comfortable beds and pillows. Take some time and enjoy your deck. All in all....a super stay at Gaia....it's a very lovely place for your vacation in the jungle areas of Belize
