Overall this was a great resort, our rooms were exceptionally clean and very comfortable. The quality of the bedding and the mattresses was first rate. The pool and beach areas were excellent, although you really need to get up very early to save yourself a spot in the shade. The food at the buffets was always well prepared, and there was a great variety, always better when they first open then closer to closing. The à la cart restaurants were excellent and we ate their most evenings. It is definitely worth the extra money to upgrade to the premier club which allows you to eat at the à la carte restaurants as many times as you like,The bartenders were very attentive and you never had to wait long for a drink in the lobby and never had to wait at all for a drink from the swim bar at the pool. The quality of the musicians that played in the evenings at the lobby was top-notch, and we truly enjoyed having a drink in the lobby bar every evening before dinner. Our room was very important to us and was always cleaned impeccably and at the time we requested, which was very important to me. The view of the ocean from our premier club room was unsurpassed. we spent the majority of our time at the adult pool area and appreciated the large number of chairs available in shady areas. The beach is spectacular and we were pleasantly surprised at how many water sports/equipment was included in the price of our stay. One suggestion for this beach area is the resort could use a shower to rinse off saltwater and sand from your feet in that area. Overall, an excellent resort that I would highly recommend.

Myself , hubby and my disabled sister , had upgrade to premium level ocean view , room was good with fantastic view , , the ocean was very loud so if you have a head time with noise at night maybe use earplugs , our maid service was fantastic , she was so kind , efficient and honest , my sister forgot to put money away and it was still there , the grounds were well manicured and easy for her to get around , there are ramps and elevators , because we had the premium we had access to top shelf alcohols and use of the premium ought witch had food and again top shelf beverage , the food there was minimal but well executed , this was the only place you get bacon and sausage for breakfast , The pools were nice but with it being a swimup bar it really gross me out as we saw people never get out of pool to go to washroom, we watched , , the washrooms were easy to get too as well so there is no excuse , that is just wrong , security was very diligent about no kids in the adult pool , , the kids section has very nice as well , probably cleaner lol , also this is the first resort that has the pools open till 930 pm , the ocean was very rough here at times , hubby and I enjoyed beach a few times but sister could not , The food generally , was just ok , the buffet had a variety but it was either bland or some dishes way over salted and never warm enough, as for the 3 ala carts the Italian was the best and most professional with the best food , Premium gave us unlimited which we should have use more , The agave Mexican was the worse food ever and the staff and cooks were very rude , , someone recommended certain dishes and the dish wasn’t the same as the dish our friends had , , I do speak Spanish and the staff were making fun of my sister , the dish was catch of the day and it came out and dry plain rice with a fried banana on it and 2 dry pieces of fish on top of it , no sauce , no seasoning , and the menu was very limited , only 6 dished to choose from , my sister ordered the chicken and 3 moles and it came out cold and very dry with nothing g else on plate , were all just had a few bites and decided it wasn’t worth the effort , but it was the lack of compassion and the rude comment we heard from the kitchen , our table was right by the kitchen doors , several time we ate off resort and we got to enjoy the real Oaxacan cuisine The entertainment was good , loved the air condition theatre , but the one hung that bothered us and several others was the annoying sound the daytime entertainment did all the time , i cant spell it but the did it consistently , they sound like sick seals . We were there over Christmas and New Years with our friends we are in our late 50's and usually go to adults only resorts so you will understand some of our comments...
I would go to the Barcelo Huatulco again but here are few things you should know before you go:
1. Get the Premium Level, this will allow you to book unlimited A La Carte restaurants and avoid the buffet every night. You also get canned beer at the pool instead of draft beer and free room service, the extra cost was worth it for us.
2. If you plan on exchanging cash at the front desk, make sure that you bring pristine and unused bills, if there are any marks, folded or slight nicks on your bills they will not take them. There is a Scotiabank ATM onsite which help us at they refused 9 out of 10 of our bills and we needed pesos.
3. This is a family resort and there were a lot of children onsite when we were there, I did not like the fact that children were left unattended at the buffet - Parents please go with your children to the food. Little hands reaching for food made the whole buffet unappetizing for me. I stuck to the a la carte restaurants and room service.
4. The Adult pool is great and the lifegaurds do a really good job of monitoring it and asking any children that enet to leave it.
5. This resort caters to Mexican nationals and they receive preferrential treatment over other toursits, even when we are the only ones tipping.
6. The beach is great and so is the size of the resort, no need for 10,000 steps+ per day to get to the restaurants or pool, elevator and you are there.
7. The rooms are clean and nicely appointed. High quality bedding/beds and very well maintained.
Overall a very good resort - I do wish the lounge chairs at the pool would lie flat it is hard to lie on your stomach when chairs do not recline fully.

I did my research before I booked this resort and read about the good and the bad. I know everyone has different experiences on their vacation and my experiences were more negative than positive. First some of the negatives. The room temperature is controlled by the resort. The temperature is set at 23 degrees and if you turn it down there is no difference. Prepare to sweat at night. The water temperature in the shower fluctuates often from perfect to scolding hot to freezing cold? The wifi in the room and on the balcony is very spotty and often you have to refresh your page. The maid service was very inconsistent. Rooms should be cleaned when you are out for the day and not at 4:30 pm when you are getting back to your room to freshen up for dinner at 6:00pm. Towels were taken and not replaced. Management did address this and it was good for 2 days then it was right back to the way it was before. We found that one of the food managers had a problem with the causation people smoking and directed them to an area to smoke where there is no shade at all in the plus 35 degree heat as all the locals could smoke and drink wherever they wanted to. There is ashtrays all over the resort. Enough with the negatives now onto some positives. The grounds are kept clean and looking beautiful with all the flowers and lights. The service staff are very friendly and helpful to get you what ever you need. The two that stood out for us was Thomas from the seaside grill and Maria from the lounge. Hopefully I didn’t butcher your names to badly. I would recommend booking the Italian restaurant for your dinners. The Mexican restaurant was not good and they rush you through. The sunrises are beautiful the beach and water awesome. Having said all this I probably would not stay here again as I have stayed at a different resort in the area and I found they had better and more to choose from restaurants and larger more comfortable accommodations.

We lament your disagreement with the room temperature, although this is managed by the hotel, it is posible to modify the thermostat located in every room. Regarding the maid service it is important to mention that the service starts at 8:00 am and finishes at 5:00 pm, however depending of the workload our staff could visit you on different moments at the day. In case that a guest has an special request, we do the possible to schedule the service an specific hour. Nonetheless, our housekeeper will reinforce the supervision and guarantee that towels and all the amenities are refilled. We were 10 adults and my 4 year old daughter. We stayed 5 nights 6 days.
The waiter service at the pool left much to be desired. They took a long time to bring the drinks, they didn't deliver everything requested, or they didn't stop by asking what you needed. It limited drinks to two per person each time you ordered them at the pool bar. The bartender was told what was mentioned above and even then they did not improve the service. The captain was spoken to so that she would take action on the matter.
There is no waiter service on the beach.
The beach does not have the best location, since the waves were too strong for swimming. We had to go to other nearby beaches to swim.
Repetitive foods, there was no variety in them. Sometimes tasteless.
We went as members of the Barceló group, they had commented that since it was my daughter's birthday, they would make and leave a special detail in my room, that never happened.

We recently returned from a wonderful stay at the Barcelo Huatulco. It was our first time in this part of Mexico and we weren’t disappointed. The location of the hotel was great, just a short taxi ride from the airport and nearby towns. The ocean and beach were right out front and the snorkeling was quite good. The rooms were pretty standard. The bed linens were soft, the pillows were fluffy and plentiful, and the bathroom featured large bath sheets, and premium toilet paper. Like many places in Mexico, there were no face cloths. We didn’t book with a premium package, which meant we were only allowed to visit à la cart restaurants two times for the week that we were there. If you have a premium package, you can book at the restaurants nightly. We went to the Mexican and Italian à la cart restaurants which were both good. The buffet left much to be desired. It was quite small, and choices were limited and repetitive. The premium package includes top shelf alcohol. If you don’t have the premium package, the drinks are horrid. We definitely wouldn’t go back to the Barcello without a premium package. Staff was very friendly, and, despite some language barriers, were very helpful. I would recommend learning a few basic Spanish phrases before going to make communication easier. Overall, we had a great experience at the Barcelo. We were disappointed in the food and drink, which is why I only rated it 3 stars.

For the third year in a row we loved Barcelo. Service with a smile and genuine friendship are a staple at this hotel, we love the size and location of the Hotel it is optimal for us, cleanliness throughout is ongoing .we are frequent swimmers, Tomas the dedicated young man that keeps the pools in pristine condition must be commended. The Life Guards that keep children out of the adult pool are very observant and enforce the no children policy. Service around the beach and pool area is a friendly experience with efficiency. Fernando and Carlos Catatlan along with Marcial Maya are fantastic and upbeat every day. The Tortuga Restaurant, available for breakfast and lunch is a scenic venue, views of Tangolunda Bay. You are greeted with a warm smile from Gabriela, Luz and Adriana, the waiters, Fransisco, Luis , Tomas, Carlos, Adan do a amazing job and always with a warm greeting and smile. The Agave Mexican Ala carte is a place we visit frequently and love the level of service from Victor and others. Fontana the Italian Ala carte is a beautiful restaurant with a piano player to add to the experience. The menu has a great selection of items. Best steaks in Mexico.
We always sit near the ocean wall near the entertainment team. Contrary to other reviews the music isn’t overwhelming , Alberto the supervisor is very outgoing and friendly as is Abraham and the rest of the crew. The Lobby has a very talented house band with fantastic vocals, joined by a very good female and male vocalist. People dance on occasion ( M & M ) you deserved 10 for every dance. Servers Lydia and Canterina are apleasure each and every evening. The Premium Lounge is a very pleasant place to get a drink , Victor and Eduardo mix great drinks with the Barcelo Huatulco smile and friendly attitude. Xemena and Kady are extremely focused on enhancing the resort experience , starting at check in and sadly at check out. Monika from guest services with her ever present can I help you smile is a gem. The Christmas Tree lighting party was amazing, dancers and Mariachis, house band many happy excited children Samuel the bellman books taxis and is a wealth of information. This hotel is very fortunate to have Sub Director Esau Navarrete and Food and Beverage Manager Etanislado Valdovinos lead the customer service focused team at Barcelo Huatulco. This was our first time staying at a Barcelo, and first time in Huatulco. We upgraded our room to Premium Level as we wanted a view of the ocean. The room was very spacious, with lots of storage space! The bed was very comfortable! The bathroom was a good size. There is coffee in the room and a small fridge that was stocked with beverages and snacks. There is a small safe in the room (too small for laptop or iPad). Our room also had robes and slippers. The pool temperatures were lovely, as was the ocean! The beach is quiet, sandy, beautiful. We ate at the Mexican restaurant once and the Italian twice - both were fabulous. We were lucky enough to have Victor as our server at both - he was great! Omar at the main buffet was also wonderful. We were also very impressed with the quality and freshness of the food at the buffets; there were lots of options (and vegetarian options) - absolutely no complaints regarding the food. Every night there was a show at their theatre and often some live music in the lobby bar area before the nightly show. I would definitely recommend and stay here again.
