We stayed here last week for two nights. It is a bit out of the way so you need to take a tuktuk from town if you arrive by bus or train. We were welcomed by their absolutely charming staff (thank you). The mountain facing room was fine but really need refreshing. The bathroom too was a bit basis. The hotel description describes the hotel as ´elegant and luxurious’ but perhaps the common areas and gardens are but the rooms are not. The dinners are excellent as are the breakfasts. That’s a good thing because the hotel is far from any restaurants. You can start walking around the holy mountain as we did from the hotel. I would certainly recommend that even if you are not religious. Can’t praise the staff enough. One young man helped us with a small problem we had with a driver. Overall: Very peaceful and quiet. A great place to stay - just the rooms need updating.…
A Pilgrimage friendly town. The temple was grand and commoners friendly. Inner sanctum appears to be more than 1000 years old. Engravings were mysterious. Roads appeared to be a bit chaotic for some one from a big metro city but that's the way of life here. One needs to be easy going and fun loving. Stay at Athena hotel was very good. Good buffet food at a cheaper price. Rooms were functional and comfortable. Gingee fort about 25 km away was a pleasant surprise. A hugely underrated historical monument. A good hiking trip to the top of the hill offers splendid views. Well maintained as well by ASI.
Not worth the Rs 6000 we payed. We stayed for one night on Nov 5, 2022 as we were traveling from Chennai ( we came from USA on Nov 4 2022). Nov 4 we stayed at the Ramada Plaza, Chardar Patel Road, Chennai and paid Rs 7559 for a great room with fantastic amenities and bathroom. Buffet BF was amazing. Mountain to mole hill comparison between the Ramada and the Athena hotel. It was difficult to find the Athena hotel around 8 PM as the hotel is in a small side street away from the main road and there were no clear lit signs. . Front desk staff were courteous. A big plus. Not the person at the small eating place- rude and won't provide us the menu for dinner although others were seeing a menu. Room was big. Plus. But the bed was not good. Sheets and pillows were worn out and not clean. Towels were really worn out and not at all good. Bathroom is very substandard and not in par for the Rs paid. Buffet BF was free which was OK. By comparison we stayed at Theni Western Gatz hotel for five days for only Rs 3012 per night with a great free BF which was suburb and in par with USA hotels that charge $100 per night (without BF). Overall will not stay in the hotel gain and will look for others in the area when we go to the temple next time when we visit India..…
The itself hotel is ok, but the way they cheat about the location is not. No, it is not by the Ramana ashram. No, it is not 1 km from the ashram like they write in the confirmation. It is 3 km away which is not a walking distance! There is no walking path either, you need to walk by a motorway. Don’t be fooled. Pool area is tiny and without any place with a shade.
Stayed with family (2 kids) - Booked Queen Suite - Very spacious and clean. Loved it. Location: Great - 3.4 KM from temple/town center. Located beside plantations/paddy fields. Serene. Parking: Ample space, easy and hassle-free. Food: Had breakfast. Homely. Loved it. Staff: Very friendly. Summary: Stay again in my next visit and highly recommend to other travelers.
We stayed at Athena in the last week of December 2021. We were a group of 8 people spread across 3 rooms. We had booked 2 balcony rooms (queen suite) and one without balcony (queen suite). The queen suite has 2 separate double beds. This is very helpful when you have kids along with you. The balcony opens to an empty plot outside of the property. They have provided chairs in balcony which is a welcome move. The rooms are clean and very spacious. The hotel is located away from the city/town, atleast 4 kms. The photos posted in the portal are all true, nothing fake about them. Pros: Cleanliness Spacious Responsive staff Away from noise Good breakfast Pool Cons: The dining hall in located quite a distance from the kitchen. This adds to slowness in service. Especially when it comes to refilling stuff at breakfast buffet. Since the property is 4kms away from city, the restaurant is only used by people staying in the property. That brings down the numbers and hence everything is calculated in minimum quantities. In other words things can get over quite quickly.…
Neat and clean rooms. Staffs were very polite. Property is little outskirts. It was calm. We had dinner and breakfast. Excellent food. Swimming pool was little and can improve on the water quality. Tasted like home food. Took us 15 mins drive to temple. Overall nice experience.
We are from Hyderabad and we stayed in Athena in April 2021 where I rated them 5 star. Went with family again, just amazed at their service, cleanliness and Food. If you are ever going to thiruvanmalai, this is the hotel to stay with no guessing. Great location and view as well.
Pros : Nice clean hotel. Located 4.5km away from temple. Very courteous staff. Tasty food. Food menu Options were limited. Breakfast was good. Cons : Did not get hot water in the morning. Restaurant staff not trained well I guess. Cutlery was not available in the restaurant. Water was not served on time. Few glitches I could see.
We travelled from Hyderabad and stayed here on Apr 9, 10, 11 and 12 of 2021. Place is really clean and staff is awesome and very helpful. Food is also true TN food and to die for. If you are looking to visit Thiruvannamali, won't be disappointed if you stayed here. Close to everything as well. True 5 star in every aspect
