Forget your preconceptions of youth hostels. This is situated in the historic Rocks area of Sydney. The hostel is ingeniously built over an archeology site, which is the site of some of the original settlers houses. When you enter the hostel you are met by the friendly reception staff. I stayed in a premier room, which was spacious clean, and most...

Hi David - really pleased you enjoyed your stay. There are 85 other YHA hostels around Australia (not all with this view though!) if you would like to try another one. Hope to see you again.

My husband and I stayed here in a room with a queen bed the first night we were in Australia. Location of hostel is excellent--in "the rocks" and within easy walking distance of Circular Quay and all these places have to offer. It is also across the street from the bridge walk and next to two great restaurants: the Australian...

Booked 6 rooms for a family of 10. The twin rooms had a queen bed and a big roll away trundle. Large, Clean and spacious. The double rooms not quite as spacious and no TV but comfy. Location and view outstanding.

Stayed here for 2 nights solo in October 2016. I'd looked at a few places to stay in Sydney and this hostel seemed to offer the best value for a good location in the heart of city & harbour. The hostel's quite easy to find - I took the train from the airport to Circular Quay and then walked there...

Hi there - really glad you enjoyed your stay! We do strongly recommend people get off the train at Wynyard station (not Circular Quay) as there is a flat easy walk from there to the hostel - avoiding all the steps in the Rocks. There is a map and directions on our website. See you again soon, hopefully.

Staying at YHA, The Rocks, Sydney was like reliving my college hostel days. Though I was there for just two nights but it was worth..I wasn't sure what I was getting into but trust me it was fun. The location of this YHA is just awesome, walking distance to all public amenities, Sydney Harbour, Opera House etc with some spectacular...

It's a youth hostel so rooms are basicbut that's to be expected. On the negative side the bedsour too thin and uncomfortable particularly in the double room we had where we were paying a reasonable amount of money. Also free Wi-Fi is only available in the common areas which is not good enough also for this amount of money. Otherwise...

We were very pleased with our 5 night stay here and would definitely recommend it for those looking for a more affordable option while in Sydney. We arrived in Sydney 5 days prior to a cruise departing out of Sydney Harbour and wanted an option that would be easy on our wallet since we planned to be sightseeing during most...

From the digs showcased beneath the first floor of the main building to the iconic location and the exceptional roof top views of the harbour, the rocks YHA exceeds expectations. It's not just the location though, the staff and volunteers are friendly and helpful, the accomodation whilst being basic, is clean and functional and tremendous value when comparing what is...

We crashed out here longer than expected due to cyclone Debbie letting us travel further north. Situated in a superb location, especially as I ( lady over 60) was on my own for the last couple of days

Staying in The Rocks

Neighbourhood Profile
The Rocks
The first residents of the Rocks were convicts and sailors from the old nation. As the oldest neighbourhood in the city, the area's cobblestone streets host more than 100 heritage sites and buildings, including the oldest house in Sydney, Camden Cottage, which was built in 1816. Taste a “midi “ or a “schooner” of beer and dine “al fresco” on the waterfront at some of the oldest pubs in Sydney. The weekend markets at the Rocks are where you can find local artists' hand-made souvenirs, organic food and designer jewelry in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. To enjoy some of the best Australian and international contemporary art, the MCA museum is open every day and select evenings. At the end of a long day of sightseeing, be sure to save energy to dance the night away at the area's many late night entertainment venues.
