You do need to understand what you are in for here. We stayed on a reciprocal deal from the excellent RAC in Victoria of which we are members; a great modern place bustling with activity and fabulous facilities. That's not what we got at the RACA. The good points: Location, location, location with an added old-world charm. Lots of wood... More

Have been a member since 2003 and now an interstate member. Have enjoyed the accommodation a few times and love the location, food and accommodation. Would recommend it as a member and low key comfortable place to stay without the hype and with the family feel.

First Sunday back in Sydney of our holiday home and we were wandering around Circular Quay with family. A bit peckish, Dad is a long term member of the club, so decided to grab some lunch. It is a step back in time, beautiful old bar and dining space, and the sun steaming through the windows. Had a really simple... More

Stayed here for a few nights following a tour in Melbourne and Wellington NZ. The hotel is really conveniently located on Circular Quays, we had a botanic garden view for 2 nights and then a harbour bridge view for 2 nights, both rooms were excellent, modern, clean, light and airy. The staff were friendly and helpful and nothing was too... More

This old club with over 100 years of service is a little tradition hidden in the city. If you know a member get them to take you there to have a taste of times gone by! Inside is heritage listed features and old fashioned service! Before the upgrade to parliament this was the haunt of politicians.

Stayed here for 2 nights. It's very dated. Rooms are small (to be expected in this location) and aircon is on or off. This meant our room was freezing and we had to be given a fan heater to keep warm. Rooms are tired and not on a par with other reciprocal clubs. Service in the restaurant was poor. Not... More

This is a great place to stay, close to everything Sydney has to offer, yet quietly removed. Very olde world, but staff and food are excellent. Accommodation is comfortable, well maintained and quiet. The Restaurant is just fabulous, and the unsung heroes are the chefs working behind the scenes. Their food is wonderful. All wait staff are helpful and really... More

As other reviewers have commented, this place appears to have barely changed In decades. But I don't think that's a bad thing - the old-fashioned decor is well maintained and the vibe of this place is half-way between the set of a glamourous1950s Hitchock thriller and a musty old church hall, depending in no small part on how you choose... We didn't stay here, just had a dinner with old friends. The food was average, service grudging and the evening was very expensive. Two courses, a couple of glasses of wine and one of champagne was $120.00. The bar stayed open afterwards only long enough for one more drink then the rails were noisily put up. Thank God we weren't... More

The RACA is a time capsule: wood panels, old timey photos on the walls, old world feel all around. The rooms are small but comfortable: single beds only, but they make for a very good night sleep. Internet is fast and free. The restaurant on the top floor is absolutely top notch. Affordable and effective accomodation for Sydney's CBD.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise buildings and after-work drink places, high-end shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. No matter your interest, be sure to check the full calendar of events hosted by the city, from the Sydney Festival in January to October’s Good Food Month at Hyde Park.
