Cheap and cheerful, I first stayed here back in April when I was travelling the east coast with friends because my brother has been staying long term and recommended it. The owner Bruno is a total babe, so helpful and fair and made a conscious effort to remember everyone's name. Sophie and the rest of the staff were great, and... More

Solo traveller on working holiday. Read this to the end, its really important amongst us backpackers. Pros: room size was good, big kitchen Cons: Not much to do in glebe, shops, restaurants close early. Only bus runs into CBD, need to get 2 buses to Newtown or Kings cross if you like to go out. Manager Bruno, he was really... More

Very cheap but I guess you get what you pay for! Although they had their own parking it wasn't maintained. The hostel had no carpet in the corridors and we where woken up at 7 every morning by them taking it up. It smelt of cat food through out the hostel! We did have a room to our self but... More

I stayed in rooftop for nearly 2 months while working in Sydney, and for me it was just what I needed. Glebe is a lovely location and not too far out of the city (there's a regular bus service from just outside the hostel) it also has a lovely market every Saturday that I would highly recommend . The hostel... More

this was the first hostel on our journey which had an air conditioning. And that's a very important thing when you visit australia during july - it's friggin' cold winter! There is no wifi, but computers with internet in every room. the view from the rooftop is amazing - you see the whole skyline from sydney downtown. Due the hostel... More

The number of times I heard arguments and fights breaking out here during my short time here (one week) was enough to make me want to never stay here again. It's within walking distance of Darling Harbour, and has great bus links to Downtown, which is its' saving grace!

I stayed in this hostel for around 3 months, purely for the fact it was the cheapest place i could find to stay. It does provide you with a tv, a computer that doesnt work, no wifi either and a small kitchenette that cannot be used unless its for cereal, biscuits and anything that wont set off the fire alarm.... When you stand outside rooftop you think "hmm not sure" but I have loved living here for 2 months. I moved there with some friends I had met at a different hostel and It really felt like we were all a family. The prices are brilliant for what you get, kitchen, ensuite, only 4 people in the room and a... More

Staying in Glebe

Neighbourhood Profile
Glebe
An inner city suburb along the water, Glebe has a deep-rooted sense of cultural history and heritage. It originated as a semi-rural resort for the well-to-do, but has transformed into a student-centric melting pot. Visit Glebe Point Road for ethnic cuisine as standard as Mexican, Indian, Italian and Chinese, or as diverse as Spanish, Bavarian, Polish, Czech and Lebanese. You will find that Glebe is accepting of the eccentrics and aboriginals that roam the streets, integrating students and people of all economic statuses into the multi-cultural fabric that distinguishes this suburb. Glebe Foreshore is a great destination for a leisurely walk along the Bay, and the Saturday market is a great scene for bargain hunters.
