This review is just for the bar area. Very small bar; 4 tiny tables and about 8 seats at the bar. Seats are all bar height with no back support. No air conditioning. It has a lovely historic feel and a limited food menu.

A friend booked us into this place for over the new year period as it was a good price in comparison to other places. I have to admit that reading the reviews before we got there that we were very worried as to what we would find. The rooms are very basic and old but we didn't see any dust...

No aircon, filthy bathrooms and breakfast is basic. For the same or less money you can stay at the y hotel at Hyde park, where they at least clean the bathroom and rooms properly. You'll get a hot breakfast at the Y hotel too. Only positive for the Grand is the location. Everything else is sub par. Bring your ear...

Firstly I would like to say that having to check in at a bar while you have children with you is simply unacceptable. Usually I don't take the time to write reviews but this place was so bad i decided to warn people!!! After the very slow check in process during which my kids had to wait in a corridor...

My friends and I stayed there for one night, sure it was cheap enough but it wasn't worth the hassle. Pro's: The marine bar itself is nice and the staff are friendly and know a lot of excellent bars close by and encourage you to go a visit them. They're amazing! Rooms are tidy and perfect for a checkin-sleep-wake-up-and-go visit....

wow what can I say other than totally disappointed in all areas of hospitality. The room was small the bar fridge was hot and sounded like a washing machine. The window was broken and I could not stop the draft on a cold winters night. they had a paper thin curtain with a huge security light 2 meters away so...

My girlfriend didn't agree with me in the beginning, but later she agreed this was the worst hotel we have ever been in. It is very budget hotel since the hotels in Sydney are very expensive. Location was the main reason we chose to stay here twice, in the beginning and at the end of the 3-week-trip to south-east Australia....

Central location close to museums, trains, restaurants, parks, that is the good news. Staff is friendly, but rooms are small, and dark. There is a bar underneath (can be noisy) and prices are (even for Australia) high. Probably not easy to find an alternative for a budget traveller.

When I arrived the check-in desk was not immediately evident - apparently it's all done at the bar. The website I booked the room through (booking.com) did not make it clear enough that the bathroom was a shared facility. For the price of the room -$95/night - I would not have made the booking had I known this to be...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise buildings and after-work drink places, high-end shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. No matter your interest, be sure to check the full calendar of events hosted by the city, from the Sydney Festival in January to October’s Good Food Month at Hyde Park.
