This hotel is great for anyone who likes to Party. As it's so old the noise from outside and inside (bands playing until at least midnight) sounds through the whole hotel. A market sets up in the early hours of Saturday morning which is very noisy. The hotel can't help this which is why I suggest ear plugs. Rooms are...

Called into this pub hoping to see an typical Irish pub, sadly it was the complete opposite, the dining room was cold, well to be honest the whole pub needs a good Reno.the only thing to relate to Ireland was the barman ( Irish ) we ordered our meals,my husband ordered Sausages and mash and onion gravy. Well the mash potatoes were...

We checked out the very Aussie pubs in the Rocks but The Mercantile is THE longest running IRISH pub in Sydney. There was even an Irish waitress! Cool July night and the outdoor heaters were on with a great atmosphere on George Street. Sláinte!

This place is incredibly cheap! The rooms are very clean, large, comfortable beds. The shared bathrooms are also kept clean and there's plenty of them so there's no queuing for the loo :P The breakfast included is also great! AND the location is wonderful! The Rocks are beautiful! The pub below is very quiet, so there's no worry about it...

I initially thought I was taking a bit of a risk with the Mercantile. I needed a basic place to sleep for 4 nights knowing Id be out a lot. I thought that for the price it would be Very basic, I was just hoping it was clean and safe. When I got there I was pleasantly surprised. The room...

We went to the bar of this hotel. The place is really packed with people and there was a small corner where there was a live band. The staffs are friendly but not all. Some of the lady bartenders don't even want to smile. We tried their chicken wings, it's good! Happy hour for a pint cost $5, how cool...

Ideal for those on a budget, basic room yes but the money is worth it for the location!! You are right in the rocks with easy walking to iconic spots. Free breakfast, others have commented on the noise, so I packed ear plugs and didnt seem to have a problem

Once again I can only write about the pub as opposed to the hotel (since I can only stay in so many hotels at any one time). Anyway the service in this place is pretty ordinary. In fact one time I was waiting around five minutes to be served, and since the bartender was way too busy doing other things,...

Mercantile Hotel has a great location, 1 block from the Cruise Ship Terminal - We walked there easily with our pull bags both before & after our Cruise. Most reasonable rates for The Rocks area. Great pub & surprisingly excellent meals! Live pub music goes on til late so bring ear plugs. Highly recommend.

Staying in The Rocks

Neighbourhood Profile
The Rocks
The first residents of the Rocks were convicts and sailors from the old nation. As the oldest neighbourhood in the city, the area's cobblestone streets host more than 100 heritage sites and buildings, including the oldest house in Sydney, Camden Cottage, which was built in 1816. Taste a “midi “ or a “schooner” of beer and dine “al fresco” on the waterfront at some of the oldest pubs in Sydney. The weekend markets at the Rocks are where you can find local artists' hand-made souvenirs, organic food and designer jewelry in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. To enjoy some of the best Australian and international contemporary art, the MCA museum is open every day and select evenings. At the end of a long day of sightseeing, be sure to save energy to dance the night away at the area's many late night entertainment venues.
