The Chelsea is a great little B and B. Our room was very nice, with a king-sized bed, french doors opening out to the terrace below, modern bathroom fixtures which was kept clean by the staff, free wifi. There is a plentiful if typical continental breakfast. The hallways are a little worn, but were always clean. Others have mentioned that...

I stayed late one night in the dining room working in my computer and when I went to the kitchen to make myself a cup of tea I saw loads of cockroaches running everywhere, on the kitchen top, on the bread baskets, cutlery, plates, glassware, all over the breakfast cabinets... basically they were everywhere. We didn't have any breakfast there...

I stayed four nights at the Chelsea with my partner. It was a very odd place with not much in the way of service. Although we arrived during the advertised reception hours (which are 8am-6pm), no one answered the door at first. There was a sign on the front door giving a mobile number to call if you had any...

Maybe our receptionist just had a bad day, but there was no one there to receive us when we arrived at 1pm (reception hours are 8am to 6m). One of the guests let us in. After waiting 45min, we phoned on of the numbers on the wall, but had to wait 2 hours in total before someone arrived and showed...

The Chelsey Guest house is located in a nice and quiet area. No more than 5 minutes from public transportations and in about ½hour quick walk you are in the city centre. The interesting Kings Cross is close and so are the lovely Surry Hills area. Nice rooms, some of which could do with some paint and screwdrivers to fix...

We arrived at The Chelsea around 9pm and was a bit put off by how dark and quiet it was outside and no one to greet us as it was after office hours. Infact, a few days later we had to open the door to a new guest who arrived after office hours as well. But we were definitely impressed when...

Entrance up a number of steps, from an attractive tree lined street. First impression was not favourable – pizza boxes in the street outside the Chelsea, loads of junk mail litter and phone directories on the steps leading up to the B & B. Lasting impression was that the house needed some of tlc and the regular presence of the...

We decided to stay here even though it was a bit out of our price range to "spoil" ourselves, and have a nice home cooked breakfast, how wrong could we be. The shower in the ensuite bathroom had no shower door so water goes all over your bathroom floor, the hot water took 10 minutes to warm up. Tea bags but...

The staff was helpful, but only there from 8AM to 6:30PM – so get your questions in early. The location: The best part – a leafy, residential street near the Darlinghurst neighborhood (Bohemian, laid-back vibe with many restaurants and pubs). Also about a 10 minute walk to Kings Cross transportation and tattoo parlours. The room: Ours was on the second...

Staying in Darlinghurst

Neighbourhood Profile
Darlinghurst
Home of the small bar revolution in Sydney, Darlinghurst has more bars per capita than any other suburb. Themes range from American whiskey bars and 1950’s theme bars to hidden bars requiring secret passwords. Oxford Street is the "Gay Capital" of Australia, where gay and lesbian-friendly venues feature “diva shows” and dancing until the morning. Vintage lovers flock to Crown Street, and small designer boutiques can be found along Victoria and Bourke Streets. Dining in Darlinghurst is a gastronomic adventure. Food from all over the world is on the menu, from American ribs to tapas, sushi to gelato and every ethnicity in between.
