We enjoyed our stay at the Hilton Darwin. I think ‘the pick’ of accommodation in Darwin. Convenient location, clean, modern, comfortable rooms. Good in-house restaurant ‘Pepperberry’ (separate review) - particularly for dinner. Buffet breakfast was pretty ‘standard’. We stayed on a ‘club’ floor. Club lounge was fine, but ‘nothing special’ (and not open for breakfast). We preferred the lobby lounge bar - for coffees and a very good selection of wines by the glass (including a few premium Penfolds wines that you rarely find ‘by the glass’).
Fantastic room, very clean, and with a very comfy bed. We enjoyed the location, the friendly service, the pool, the views, and the two lovely meals at Pepper Berry. For dinner, I had the Barramundi and my wife, the risotto. Both were excellent. The mango rum jus with the barra was very good, and the sides also excellent. The dessert was also unique and tasty. Now, about the parking. It's not necessary to use the $39 valet service, which just uses a designated part of the council car park behind the hotel. There is a brand new ticket ess car park just beside the nearby Hotel Darwin. The cost was $11 for an overnight park. Very convenient.
Went for lunch with some girlfriends at their restaurant Pepperberry and the service and food was the poorest I have had in a long time. Do a favour and cancel your lunch altogether. I was very disappointed with pasta and the waitress didn’t even offer me to exchange it. Very disappointed in the whole ordeal. Would not recommend.
Upon arriving at the Hilton Darwin the reception staff were unsure of the date changes I had made to my booking, they couldn’t confirm if breakfast been included, I was advised they would look into this and get back to us, although by the second day they were still unsure; inviting us to have breakfast until they had made the appropriate enquires, by the third day we had ceased eating at the hotel due to lack of communication as promised. This was just the beginning...we booked a week long stay for my brothers 21st birthday. Entering my room there was quiet a musty smell. The aircon vent was covered in dust and I presumed this was the cause, complaining to reception I was told there were no other rooms to be relocated too as the city was booked out. The smell got increasingly worse over the next day or so and much to our disgust we found a rotting mouse in the corner of the room under the arm chair. The coffee and tea provided in the room was wet and unusable the teacups were marked and obviously not cleaned properly, the overall cleanliness of the hotel is not what you would expect for 5 star quality. Parking wasn’t included in the cost, we were not advised of this until arriving at the hotel where we were given the option to pay $39 a day for parking or find alternative parking. My personal details were sent to another guest by mistake...could only fit 200 characters …
From check in everything in this cool, clean and calm hotel has been a delight. Airy entry sets the style. Buffet breakfast exceptional in a lovely designated space. Attention to detail is 10/10! I believe it was renovated a few years ago and I’m impressed with the bathroom space and the comfort of the bed and pillows. No tricks or flash - just good design. And of course spotless. I would recommend this Hilton in Mitchell street as a perfect haven.
