You are 1 block (250m) from the Esplanade - fronts the ocean. This is not a swimming area due to crocs and stingers. However just a few 100m on there is a very large waterfront pool/BBQ/boardwalk area which has families, tourists, etc all year round. Beautiful. Swimming beaches where you can walk on a sandy beach and swim in a netted enclosure are dotted along Cairns northern suburbs 10-30mins by car. Trinity beach; Yorkeys knob are lovely - palm cove my favourite. Accomodation available at all three but you would need a hire car if wanting to go to all tourist places.
