Stayed in a 6-bed female dorm with other young people from different countries. It's a very safe and friendly place. Bedroom is clean, and spacious enough with a huge personal cupboard. Toilets and shower facilities are above average- could do with more cubicles. Free pancake...More

I haven't stayed in a hostel in about 15 years, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I thought the YHA Adelaide was great. The room was clean, there was a locker you could lock up your personal belongings (which I think is key), a...More

Adelaide Central YHA is in a good location, easy walking distance to the central market and some good bars and restaurants. There is a huge, very clean kitchen, the rooms are quiet and clean, and it is secure. There's a lounge next to the kitchen...More

The YHA Adelaide Central is (at least in my opinion) the perfect hostel! The location is great, you can do everything by foot. Chinatown and Coles are close by, as is the bus stop for going to or from the airport. I stayed in a...More

I stayed 3 nights in a 6 bed dorm. The hostel staff are friendly and helpful. They are only too happy to help with questions you might have. The bunks in the dorms are good quality; not the flimsy things you sometimes get in hostels....More

Hello I am a teacher of a year 12 Tourism class based in Victor Harbor South Australia. The class are undertaking an assignment on Backpackers and are trying to research information about a ‘typical’ backpacker. It would be fantastic if someone could respond to the class’ questions to help them with their assignment. Assignments (therefore responses) are not published and are for school use only. Your help is greatly appreciated. 1. What do you think the term ‘backpacker’ means? 2. What is the main country of origin that most backpackers come from to Australia? Is there a reason for this? 3. How long do backpackers generally stay in their destination for? Why do you think this is? 4. What are backpackers motivations for travelling? 5. What do you think most backpackers spend their money on? 6. What do you think young backpackers spend more money on? (e.g food, alcohol, festivals) 7. What do you think older backpackers spend their money on? (e.g food, culture events) 8. What are the main activities backpackers enjoy participating in? 9. Do you believe that backpackers have a positive or negative impact on host communities? Why do you think this is? Katie Nuttall Encounter Lutheran College
