I was down in Hobart for a business trip and stayed here. Fantastic location along the waterside and really great ambience. Hotel staff are super helpful and great value hotel too. Free valet parking and the breakfast al a carte was quite reasonable. The interior atrium area was a little chilly (it was 9 degrees outside) but the rooms and...

The Henry James Art Hotel is a wonderful place to stay right on the Hobart waterfront. The art provided by the University of Tasmania visual art students and staff adds a really interesting feature to rooms and public areas. The rooms are beautifully appointed (perhaps the walls are a little thin with next door conversations a little audible) and the...

History and Art mixed with friendly staff and a great bed. Great location - central to the Hobart dock and restaurants. We splashed out and stayed in the 2 storey Peacock suite. It is the oldest standing Townhouse in Australia with a heritage listed spiral staircase down to the bedroom. The room has a cool overflowing bath for two. Looking...

A great place for a weekend away but not somewhere I would necessarily return to. I had very high expectations, which were probably not quite met. The architecture is very impressive and the artwork is good. The rooms are getting a bit tired, although our room was comfortably large and had some interesting heritage features from the factory. The staff...

A one night booking for a basic studio suite upgraded to the top class Peacock 4 room suite when told this was a night to celebrate a tenth wedding anniversary. On arrival the arranged welcome platter of fruit, champers, cheese and biscuits was provided with the upgrade to the original apartment claimed as the oldest apartment still in use in...

For anyone wondering whether an art hotel is suitable for families with young children, I strongly recommend this one. We were greeted with genuine warmth by all staff throughout our 3 day stay and they were extremely helpful with all requests e.g. arranging hire car, MONA and ferry tickets. Most extraordinarily, when our son lost part of a toy just...

Decided to splurge for my 50th birthday, great decision for an experience not to be forgotten. Staff were very attentive, (thanks for the complimentary pre-dinner drink in the Long Bar for my birthday, guys) three piece band too, it was very special. Dinner was amazing - I recommend the oysters with herb granita. Highlight was the complimentary history tour (with...

Great (large ) room and bathroom with historic features of the old jam factory. The building has its original brickwork and timber beams with ultra-modern facilities built within it giving real old world charm without compromise on facilities for modern needs. Add to that the location at the heart of the Waterfront and Constitution Dock district where the winter solstice...

Stayed four nights in June at the Hotel and without exception found the staff went out of their way to meet our requests. During our stay we were greeted warmly by staff and when asked for assistance they went beyond the request and often added helpful suggestions or assistance. When paying for a premium Hotel in other Cities and Countries...

We loved this hotel - great location, helpful, friendly staff, cool vibe and we would happily stay there again. We stayed in a deluxe spa harbour view room, and although it technically was all of those things, our first room did not quite match our expectations based on the description and images we had seen on their website, so the...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Australia's first dedicated art hotel stands proudly on Hobart's glorious waterfront. A handsome row of historic warehouses dating from the 1820s (the former IXL jam factory) have been creatively transformed into an enthralling multi-award winning first class hotel. The hotel itself is a work of art. Here you'll be fascinated by the unexpected combination of the antique and the ultra modern. ... more   less
