This hotel is just brilliantly situated down a lane in the middle of the CBD. Yes, the decor is a little tired in places, but the room and en-suite (shower and bath) were clean and fine for us. We didn't eat breakfast here, but there are several excellent cafes just outside the door which did us fine. When we come...

Causeway 353 was a quiet, clean and comfortable hotel that was a very reasonable price for the location. The hotel itself is a little rundown in areas but the staff at the front desk are very helpful and friendly. I would recommend this hotel to those looking for a hotel in a central location for a more budget price compared...

We stayed here while on a three day visit to Melbourne. The central location makes it a winner. The room was quite small but was very well appointed. I especially appreciated the good lighting for reading. The staff were consistently pleasant and helpful. A continental breakfast was included. This was basic and let down by the lack of proper coffee....

Rooms are ok, if small, for a city centre hotel. Mostly clean but the duvet had a few marks. The included breakfast was awful, the croissants were like leather had probably last saw an oven when Calais was British. The choice was abysmal no other bread than sliced for the toaster. If you wanted cooked it was a charged upgrade,...

Stayed in November 2014. Booked a Deluxe room. Immediately had to leave the room because it was so small and I felt claustrophobic. The tables had paint chipped off them and were extremely shabby. The view was a brick wall. Went back to the reception to change rooms and upgraded to Deluxe Suite at our expense. I would not recommend...

This hotel, although in the city centre, was a quiet haven. In a courtyard off the main drag it was not the easiest place to find in the early hours but once inside the reception staff were helpful and friendly. Our room was large and clean and the bed comfortable just what was needed after a 22 hr flight. Breakfast...

I had paid for and booked the room 2 months in advance and did not check in until midnight on the day of my arrival yet my room was not even properly assigned. I had booked a deluxe king room and I was assigned to a twin single room. If I wanted this type of room, I would have done...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
