I visited The Blackman for the third time recently. I was very happy with everything, except one small issue. Why when a twin room cost $482 for one night is it acceptable to then charge customers $10 for Wi-Fi? Surely this should be included?
I absolutely loved this hotel!
Beautiful, spacious studio room with enough space for yoga (I was away for work - mustn't let fitness slip) and contemporary artworks on every wall.
The restaurant was divine too - excellent food and great service.
This was our first stay at this hotel and won't be the last. The front desk is very friendly and welcoming. The room was very clean with a fantastic view. The restaurants are excellent. The idea of an art-based hotel is very clever. Overall, a...More

I always stay at this hotel when I go to Melbourne, its close to the offices and central at the same time. The staff are friendly and its a lovely boutique hotel although housekeeping can be a bit inconsistent at times.

Hey Lisa, I stayed at the Blackman at the end of October of this year. I was originally placed at the rear of the hotel from the main entrance. As mentioned in one of the earlier replies, the new building being erected is merely feet away from the Blackman. Personally it didn’t wake me (the workers start at around 7am) but it definitely blocks any view there may have once been at the rear. I requested a move away from the works to the front of the building and the staff were more than happy to help. Essentially, make sure you’re the main entrance side of the building!

Always like a hotel room/apartment with a balcony and Blackman was great having views of the bay. Hopefully the construction of the building next door is now completed but when we were there in May this year, it wasn't a major issue as much it was just an extra effort to remember to close the blinds so that privacy is maintained when workers start their early morning work shift. Also having a relaxing cuppa to read a book on the balcony or with the balcony door open may not be as peaceful if construction work is noisy.
Other than that, one of the best rooms we have had in a hotel in terms of comfort, luxury, ambience. Great location, easy access to trams and restaurants. Take advantage of the Smartcar rental for guests, and drive to the South Melbourne markets is only 8mins away it is one of the classiest markets found in Australia - great cafes, foods and boutiques ... even the butchers and fruit/vege stalls present their stalls in a classy way. We enjoyed this place more than the highly publicised Chapel St shopping/cafe strip. However, if you do go to Chapel St, would be great to make time to visit sister hotel, The Olsens for a swim in their pool.
