Stayed here for 3 nights to visit the Grand Prix at Albert Park. Situated within 10-15 min walking distance of both Southern Cross and Flinders Street train station where you can get the tram to Albert Park with your race ticket. Fairly basic hotel although clean average size rooms with coffee making facilities. Average size bathroom with shower. Staff friendly...

Great location, really clean room with all amenities and incredibly good value - which is why I have rated it so highly. Reception often unattended and you will not get into your room before 2.00 p.m. so a bit of a scrum can develop right on 2.00 p.m Reception staff often new/training(?) They store bags. If the trade off is...

We arrived to find our hotel and the friendly later on the front desk. Major building going on but don't be put off. Rooms a bit noisy but otherwise fine for our last Stand in the big smoke. Very close to rail and tram services. We walked the few blocks to Bourke st mall.

This hotel is basic and undergoing structural work at present. The rooms are adequate and the location is good. There was rarely anyone in reception, but they were helpful enough when found. The breakfast was very good value $6 !!

Rude and abrasive reception staff. Wifi doesn't work pretty much at all - be prepared to wait 10 minutes to load each page. No room cleaning. OLD building. Double room is two singles jammed together. Yucky yucky bathroom. Nice location but spend your money somewhere else!

I was booking accommodation on Booking.com (my first time using this site) and I came across Hotel Sofia. I booked one the daily specials with free cancellation until 48 hours. Booking.com charged my credit card straight away. Then I realised I booked the wrong date and refunded the booking. Upon checking my credit card statement I noticed the was a...

We were after budget accommodation for our two night stop in Melbourne and this hotel ticked all the boxes. It's location is very central and all attractions are in walking distance. The meals at the bar are great. The only setback was that this hotel provides no parking space and public parking in Melbourne in the CBD is a shocker.

Paid cash every morning for our breakfast. Won't get a receipt. At departing day we were told we had to still pay for Saturday morning. Which was wrong. It was a different staff member who didn't know what he was doing or cashed in our money. Trying to call the hotel... Never any answer. Booking.com promised us refund, then decided...

I have stayed at this boutique hotel before and not had problems however on this trip there were a number of things that were not up to standard. Firstly our booking was not organised when we arrived, the hair dryer in the bathroom had wires hanging out the broken handle, there was absolutely NO WI FI at any stage despite...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
