Hotel staff all very helpful, polite and friendly. On the day of our departure from the hotel, our flight to the UK was scheduled for 22.30. The hotel allowed us to check out at 13.00, and store our luggage. We could also use the seating area near reception and the Gin Bar to wait in comfort until our taxi arrived. We had lunch and coffees in the Gin Bar. All this made our travel experience much more comfortable. During our 3 night stay, the location of the hotel meant we were able to explore the city easily, and return to our room easily. The area nearby was always very busy, but we felt safe walking around. The “night light” set low down under the fridge / clothes hanging unit was a great idea, as were the environmentally friendly non-plastic (wood?) door keys. Good breakfast although choice of breakfast cereal, fresh fruit and cooked food limited. We’ve stayed in other hotels, such as Premier Inn, which are less comfortable but have a better breakfast. Our lunch in the Gin Bar was ok, but could have been better. We had fish & chips, and although they were fine, there were no vegetables included, such as peas. Also the chips were covered in salt crystals which made me very thirsty. I enjoyed using the pool, but the unisex shower / changing room was a surprise. I think a changing cubicle within the changing room should be provided.

Dear Andy, warm greetings from Dorsett Melbourne, and thank you for sharing your experience during your recent stay with us. I am thrilled to hear that you found our team to be friendly, polite, and helpful. I am also glad you appreciated the convenience of our location, which makes exploring the city and returning to your room effortless. It’s wonderful to hear you enjoyed thoughtful touches like the night light and our environmentally friendly wooden door keys, designed to enhance your stay. Your feedback on the breakfast variety, lunch experience at the Jin Bar, and the pool facilities is invaluable. We’re constantly working to improve, and your suggestions are important in guiding us. I will review our breakfast offerings with the Food and Beverage team to ensure more variety is available. Regarding your lunch experience, I appreciate your feedback on the fish and chips and will consider balancing our dishes better with sides and seasoning preferences. Regarding the unisex shower/changing facilities near the pool, providing a more private option such as a changing cubicle is an excellent suggestion, and we’ll explore ways to make this area more accommodating for all guests. Thank you again for your detailed review and hope to welcome you back soon and provide an even more enjoyable stay. Please feel free to reach out if there’s anything I can assist with. Warm Regards, Minyoung Lee, Front Office Manager Minyoung.Lee@dorsetthotels.com

Dorsett hotel was ideally located to our destination, as well as close to a park (Flagstaff Gardens) shops (Coles, Harris Scarfe, Chemist Warehouse etc.)
Upon arrival we were assisted by the most helpful member of staff, Blair the valet. He went above and beyond to assist us during our stay. He helped us unload our newborn, carried our luggage and parked our car. He arranged for us to leave the car for an extended period after check out the following day. He even gave our crying newborn a soft toy Dorsett Hotel bear to keep him company in the pram when we went out for our walk!
When we checked in the hotel was very accommodating in allowing us to change from a King room to Twin room. We loved the room, very clean and modern with lots of space. The window seat looking out over the city was a nice touch. The two double beds had lots of pillows of varying softness so we were spoiled for choice. I found the old school spring mattress a bit hard, however my husband thought it was perfect so it's a matter of personal preference! There was lots of room for a port-a-cot and other baby accessories like play mats and change mats. The ensuite was clean and stylish, the shower had a rainfall shower head as well as a wall mounted one and the pressure was great. There were dispensers for body wash, shampoo & conditioner with a nice scent. The towels were pure white and super fluffy.
Some drawbacks are the time it takes to check in/out, although both times after waiting 5 minutes with no movement in the queue, more staff appeared to help. The fridge is tiny, even smaller than a regular bar fridge, slightly bigger than a cosmetic fridge! There are no bowls or cutlery in the room, but there is a kettle, mugs and a pod coffee machine. (The pod coffee was awful, but there are plenty of places (including downstairs) to get a good coffee. ) The ensuite is behind a trendy opaque glass wall, so if you go to the toilet in the middle of the night and turn on the light, you will wake anyone asleep in the room!
I would not hesitate in recommending Dorsett to travellers and I appreciate the outstanding staff such as Blair (the valet). I will definitely stay there again, noting that it is close to the train station and Marvel Stadium, which will be great for future family adventures.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
From Check-in to Check-out the entire stay was fantastic. There is automated check-in but we chose to ignore that and went to the reception counter as we had valet parking and needed to give them the car key. Good to note, that if using Valet parking, just park out the front on the street and give the reception staff the key - they do the rest. The reception staff were great, super friendly, accommodating and very professional. The rooms (we had 2 for our group) were really clean, incredibly comfortable beds with both soft and firm pillows so it was easy to get a comfortable sleep. Rooms service requests were handled swiftly and again, the staff were really friendly. Breakfast in the level 2 dining room was very good, with a great range of food. Overall, this is a great hotel, in a great central location for accessing all that Melbourne has to offer and value for money.

Location is good. Room generally comfortable but has many flaws. Basin tap is so high, water splashes all over when turned on. Shower screen is frosted glass but can see clear silhouette of person bathing. Also because it is transparent, room gets very bright when toilet lights turned on. Night light is very bright too. Room were very dusty. We had 3 separate bookings in between & stayed in 3 different rooms - turn on bedside reading lamp & see the amount of dust flying in all 3 rooms!. Bed & pillow were not comfortable. 2 of the rooms - when checked in found one bath shower cream tube missing & other one empty. Both times had to call reception but they came quickly to remedy. Despite entitled booking benefits, not all were given. Had to ask each time & were told it was subject to availability although were entitled. Lots of front office staff we encountered during 4 days stay but though generally friendly, not very warm nor helpful. Amazingly few staffs we asked, doesn't seem to know Melbourne places/directions well as they couldn't help us in enquiries. Breakfast is very very limited - not worth if paying full price but acceptable if paying special rate combined in room booking. Will not stay here again.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the lovely Fena. The hotel enjoys a superior location, within walking distance of acclaimed restaurants and cafes, plus there is also a laundromat next door. Our deluxe suite, a complimentary upgrade from our standard reservation, featured tasteful décor and a comfortable bed overlooking the serene inner courtyard. After a long day, you can relax in the indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi, steam room, and sauna. It's a perfect place stay for a long holiday or quick stay cation.

I stayed 2 nights for business and it was the perfect location. Easy walk from Southern Cross railway station and Airport bus. It's new and located in a quiet location. I was in room 807 which is on the top floor of hotel but not building. The king bed was very comfortable, bathroom was lovely and well designed with toiletries supplied in refillable containers. I like this plastic reduction plus you can get discount for choosing not to have room made up each day. Again saving use of water and power etc. Handy powerpoints and phone charging points by bed, table and chairs for work and a great iron and ironing board. It also had a small fridge, kettle and coffee machine with pods supplied. A large Coles shopping centre is nearby on Spencer St. I had breakfast each morning in their dining room which had a good variety of hot and cold options. It comes with a gym and pool but I didnt use those facilities so I havent included in review. I highly recommend this hotel for location, cleanliness, and thoughtful practical design of room. I'd definitely stay there again

What a beautiful new hotel! The staff are lovely- we got upgraded on check in and did not ask- the lovely Fena looked after us. We have stayed in many Melbourne hotels and this is by far the quietest we’ve encountered. Quiet streets, excellent soundproofing from the other rooms and outside- the only sound we heard was a shower running. The beds are comfortable and the curtains dark enough for a good sleep in. Toothbrushes are a rare complementary item and are an added bonus. The pool isn’t deep enough for a dive but adequate for laps and cooling down (it is heated but is not hot).

Beautifully presented hotel in a good location, although not central CBD is an easy walk or scooter to anywhere in the city.
Average size rooms, very clean throughout although I think some of the bathroom surfaces (eg vanity splashback) maybe make that a bit challenging for housekeeping.
Front desk team and concierge / guest service staff were very attentive, polite and always helpful.
Food / snacks we ordered in the Jin Bar were appalling (except the crispy chips). F&B service in that outlet was pretty average.
Would definitely stay again but very unlikely to eat or drink there.

We spent six nights at the "Dorsett" Hotel and had an overall pleasant stay. The hotel’s design and furnishings are modern and of high quality. The beds are relatively firm, which is a matter of personal preference. However, the squeaking was a bit bothersome.
A positive aspect is the incentive to skip the daily housekeeping service: If you notify the reception in advance, you receive 10 AUD per day, which can be used for room service. The room service offers a good selection, though the late-night menu could be a bit more varied. The valet service was always quick and attentive.
The hotel staff is generally friendly, though somewhat distant. However, I would like to especially highlight Blair, who was by far the friendliest employee. When our neighbors were very noisy on the first night, Blair took the issue seriously, approached us in a very polite manner, and we were able to resolve the situation quickly. In the following days, we spoke with him regularly, and Blair gave us many helpful tips that made our stay much more enjoyable. He was the only staff member who greeted every guest at any time. Without him, the stay would have been much less enriching. The hotel is truly fortunate to have such an outstanding employee!
What did surprise us, however, was the high number of families with children. This is something to keep in mind, as it means the spa area is quite crowded. Also, minors were able to use the gym unsupervised, which I find problematic for safety reasons.
The breakfast buffet was extensive and very tasty. Eggs, omelets, and other special requests were made to order, and there was also a selection of croissants, toast, yogurt, chia pudding, and fresh fruit.
The only downside was the soundproofing of the rooms. We often heard noises from the hallways, neighboring rooms, and outside – from dogs and cars. It wasn’t a major issue, but the hotel should not advertise the rooms as soundproof.
Overall, it was a pleasant stay, greatly enhanced by the positive experience with Blair and the whole vibe. A few minor issues, such as the noise and room soundproofing, slightly detracted from the experience, but the majority of the positive aspects outweighed them.
