This is our first review, and I hope this will be the last one. We stayed at the InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto from Dec 25 - 27, 2015. Yes, you have read it correctly - it's the Christmas in more than a year ago. As mentioned, we are not the type of travelers that write reviews, but this experience has...

This hotel is converted from a century-old textile mill. It looks very classy. Because of the structure of the mill, if your room is located facing inside then you may lack daylight however it is more than made up with balcony that you'll get from where you can see the entire inside area of the hotel. We were very impressed...

Even if the hotel was probably full, it still gave me the feel that the hotel seemed empty. Probably it is because the high space ratio of the architecture. The whole building was said to have been a wool manufacture factory in the past. The heritage building is just beautiful, amazing with heavy sense of history. As Platinum Ambassador of...

We are regular travellers here and really appreciate the wealth of knowledge and easy hospitality that this hotel provides. The concierge is always top rate and on this occasion, everything was handled to our satisfaction. Thanks, James R. Our suite was large and comfortable with drapes that kept out the morning sun, just how we like it. The club lounge...

We went down to Melbourne to watch the Australian Open and needed accommodation for 3 nights. We got a good deal directly through the hotel website which also included free wifi. It is situated on Collins Street down the business end of Melbourne but was very central to get around the city with teams running along Collins Street. We were...

We had a wonderful experience staying at the Intercontinental Melbourne The Rialto. We arrived at the hotel around 10:30am after our flight from Sydney, eager to drop our bags off and get a late breakfast before returning to our rooms in the afternoon. However, we were pleasantly surprised to find out that our rooms, both King Club, were ready! This...

Im not that old, but I can remember when the building that houses this lovely hotel was abandoned warehousing either side of a bluestone laneway that lead to the Yarra river. Now, of course, it is an interesting and tastefully refurbished building that retains some of that heritage while being very comfortable and convenient accommodation in the heart of Melbourne....

Check in is from 3pm so you would expect things to be quiet and staff attentive. They were very welcoming. We walked from Southern Cross Station, the old Spencer Street. Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Celebrated as one of the world’s hottest and best new hotels by both Conde Nast Traveler and Wallpaper* magazines, InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto is a fascinating example of the city’s fusion of old and new. InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto represents the resurrection of one of the city’s last remaining examples of 19th Century Victorian Gothic architecture into a timeless and inspiring luxury hotel. Its city centre location on Collins Street is at the heart of the laneways, attractions and experiences that give Melbourne its international appeal. Behind the Gothic façade is a sleek yet intimate hotel that is home to two very different bars – the Bluestone Wine Lounge and the Market Lane Bar – and a variety of dining establishments, including Alluvial Restaurant and Guy Grossi’s exciting new venture, Merchant. InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto has also teamed up with Shannon Bennett, providing valet parking for his new Vue de monde restaurant on the 55th floor of the adjacent Rialto building. InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto’s warmth and exceptional service belies its size, with more than 250 guest rooms across two soaring wings, including a stunning collection of suites as well as the exclusive Club InterContinental lounge and facilities for premium guests. The hotel’s rooftop is also a destination itself, home to the kitchen’s own market garden and beehives, the Scandinavian-inspired swimming pool and the glass-encased fitness centre overlooking the Melbourne cityscape. Also available is the luxurious candle-lit East Day Spa offering east-meets-west treatments and therapies. Before guests arrive, they can take advantage of the concierges’ passion and Insider knowledge of the city. Chief Concierge, James Ridenour and his team are the key to authentic experiences of the real Melbourne and everything the city has to offer. ... more   less
