View Melbourne offers a mixed bag in terms of guest experiences. Many guests commend the hotel for its comfortable atmosphere, spacious rooms with good views, and family-friendly vibe. The location is a hit for its ease of tram access and close proximity to attractions, despite some grumbles about parking.
While the value proposition receives divided opinions, with room costs and unexpected charges causing discontent for some, the rooms' comfort and size often earn praise. However, guests have called out inconsistencies in both room cleanliness and the quality of service.

Detailed Reviews

Hotel staff having to be persuaded to honour 'Autumn' deal of kids under 12 eating for free(detailed below), otherwise spacious room with good, clean, comfortable facilities in handy location.
Disappointed with response from SOME hotel staff when wanting to take up kids eat free in 'Autumn' deal. On prior evening had to show staff deal as per hotel booking portal to book free Buffett breakfast for next day for 2 kids, with 2 paying adult guests. Next morning restaurant staff Tiffany? flatly refused kids eat free and marched off to reception desk where reception staff Sarah? also asserted that only kids under 3 eat for free. I asked why she was disbelieving customer and asking customer to prove kids under 12 eat free option. She said it was 'a discussion' to which I replied I had already discussed and established that kids eat free deal the previous evening and that hotel staff need to know or find out specifics of deal rather than ask customer to prove over again what they saw in hotel reservation portal. Eventually the kids eat for free was honoured after multiple conversations. Should do better.
Buffett at $22 pp for hotel guests was quite satisfactory and other staff were polite, even friendly and it enabled our family to go to Anzac dawn service just up St Kilda Road.

We really enjoyed the stay there. The check-in process was quick and easy. The staff was very helpful. The hotel and the rooms were clean and tidy. The rooms were reasonably big enough and had a desk and chairs. The cupboard spaces were limited considering ours was a 2 x double bed room. The beds were very comfortable and the linen were clean. Toilets were also clean and essentials (e.g. soap, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion etc) were provided. The towels were clean too and were changed daily. Toilets do not have locking facility which may be embarrassing sometimes if children are with you. The gym though is small, is sufficient for a short trip. The swimming pool was unavailable as it was undergoing renovation. The hotel has an underground parking space which costs $19 for 24 hrs, but valid only until 11:00 am on your checkout day. There are lots of parking space just outside of the hotel (and normally not fully occupied) which is free from 6pm to 8am and with max stay of 4 hrs outside of these hours with a payment of $4.15 per hr. Public transport is available just few minutes away from the hotel. The hotel though just outside of the CBD and with good views, is away from the crowd & noise and is very comfortable for a family. However the sound proofing of the rooms are not up to the mark and you can easily listen to others in adjacent rooms.

If you are going to promote a "Gaming Room" experience, I would recommend having the actually cleaned for the next guest and the gaming facilities in the room tested before guest check in. The only thing that worked as advertised was the LED lighting and the Nintendo switch.
From check-in, issues arose. We received a paper with login details for the PC and instructions to call reception for "unlimited popcorn."
On entering the room, it was dirty—old popcorn under the tea & coffee trolley, the bath had dirty marks inside and out, a dirty child's sock behind an armchair, along with more popcorn. We called reception about 10 times over 30 minutes with no response. Frustrated, I went to reception, only to be told I could have called from the room!
We eventually received a small amount of our "unlimited popcorn" (¼ cup of kernels in a vacuum-sealed bag), but the popcorn machine didn’t work. Meanwhile, none of the PC login credentials functioned. I called reception again and was told maintenance would check the machine, and IT would reset the passwords. Maintenance got the machine working, but IT never followed up, leaving us unable to use the PC.
Returning from dinner, we unfolded the fold-out couch mattress for the children to find it was filthy, with no bedding or pillows provided—despite paying extra for our children to stay. The mattress was covered in insect carcasses, and the floor underneath was heavily soiled. It looked like it hadn’t been vacuumed in months. We called housekeeping and waited until 10 pm for the bed to be made so our children could sleep..
Overall, I am extremely disappointed with View Melbourne’s cleanliness and facilities, particularly their so-called "Gaming Room." It was essentially a standard motel room with LED lights, a computer, and a gaming console.
These items were reported to "Ray" upon checkout who advised he could refund the $19 parking fee and would raise the matter at the day's team meeting for escalation and he would be in touch. We were also offered wine, however we rarely drink. Unsurprisingly, we have not received any follow up from our stay.
Ultimately, we paid $439 for a standard room with some LEDs and a Nintendo console. The cleanliness and functionality of the room facilities, coupled with the lack of staff support was unacceptable and does not align with 4.5 star rating of the hotel.

Hi Tessa, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We sincerely apologise that your experience did not meet expectations and for any inconvenience you encountered during your stay. The cleanliness and functionality of our rooms are extremely important to us, and we regret that we fell short on this occasion. We understand your frustration regarding the issues with the Gaming Room setup and the delays in service. Please know that we did attempt to reach out to you during your stay to assist further, but unfortunately, we were unable to make contact. We acknowledge that this does not change your experience, but we appreciate your feedback and will use it to improve our service and communication. As a gesture of goodwill, we did offer compensation, including a refund of the parking fee and an additional offer, which was declined. We regret that we were unable to fully resolve your concerns at the time, but please be assured that your feedback has been shared with our housekeeping, maintenance, and front office teams to ensure improvements are made. Once again, we sincerely apologize for the disappointment you experienced. If you would like to discuss your stay further, please feel free to reach out to us directly, and we would be happy to assist. Sarah Jenkins Rooms Division Manager

Hotel parking is cumbersome and fraught with danger of hitting sides, pillars. Access to the parking and exit from the parking needs improvement especially the swipe card location and height.
The room should have a microwave and an extension string in the bathroom to dry under garments.

The place is in a prime position with public transport within a very short distance walk, food places nearby and a beautiful lake.
The staff were lovely and very warm, although in general the place is pretty run down and not family friendly. View Melbourne does not have any toasters, microwaves, plates or cutlery, so don't expect to be able to make your own food. They have a mini bar fridge without a freezer, so you won't have anywhere to put your frozen items in.
The price of their bar/restaurant on ground floor is very pricey for what you really get, so would not recommend at all unless you want to spend $30 per head (including children) minimum.
Lastly, we did not touch anything from the bar fridge that they offer (you must pay for) and they attempted to charge us for a water that was never taken.
Overall, not a good place for long term stays (we stayed 8 nights), but a good quick overnight stop for people.

We were celebrating our anniversary and took the top staycation package. Unfortunately spoilt by poor staff issue. The breakfast was included in our package. A Scrooge breakfast attendant charged extra for my two fried eggs, of which one was inedible. Probably because we prefer butter and not a spread. The butter was served in a small steel milk jug. Presentation could have been better.

1. Found it severely ridiculous spa timer was set only to 5 minutes a button press which was located all the way on the left side way. We were freezing constantly resetting the spa timer.
2. Pool was way too small, could not use it. Balcony area in front of the spa is unusable to go outdoors.
3. Room was very dusty, sheets were rough and thin (would often fall off moving around in the night causing us to be cold) and fell off, mattress hard (2*cheap single mattress beds), shower pressure not so good but temp was good (no hand held shower either), air-con went oddly to heat mode above 23.5 degrees C, no timer mode, we suffered a lot of congested nose (please check air con filters - your manhole in front of the door was slightly opened, I closed it) and lack of quality sleep as a result, we tried sleeping with the window closed and open, didn’t see to make a difference.
4. Upon check out / bag collection, reception staff was unable to refill our water bottle, sighting staff was not at the bar and there was a sign saying staff was isolating due to COVID isolation rules, however I felt she could have simply refilled out water bottle, it's not that hard and surely staff must have access to water. The tap in the lobby bathroom was not the right height for our water bottle.
5. Business area is hidden with no lobby signage.
6. Reception desk was unmanned most of the time but staff seem to come out from the back after some few seconds or minutes. We were greeted to that and left like that. Staff was good with minding bags and giving us extra tissues/toilet paper. We did not use the cleaner’s service since only there for 3 days and value privacy more.
7. Only one sofa chair in the room, caused lack of luggage holding space, usually we place our luggage on a bigger sofa, saves us always bending down.
8. TV has a very hard menu to operate, made me feel like not using it at all. Couldn't display program info without leaving the channel and going back to a complex Hotel menu.
9. Bathroom floor didn't drain.
10. Lights WAY too bright in room, only two light switches.
11. Safe did not lock.
12. Buffet was always closed when we went down after 11am, due to COVID isolation requirements. Would be nice to serve all day breakfast & other food. Only saw the cafe outlet outside on the street side open with 1 customer drinking coffee however we were in a rush to our tram. There was no water refill tap in lobby & bar was closed. Staff did not direct to cafe.
13. Only two spoons.

Dear Someonetoldme, Thank you for your review and there are a number of items that I will be addressing and correcting internally. Firstly the service over that period of your stay I am sorry it was not up to standard but Covid ripped through the majority of our team and we had no choice but to close and operate on a skeleton crew at the last minute. I am very grateful for your feedback and rest assured we are making some adjustments to our operation based on your feedback. Thank you Carl Forrest

Such a shame when asked on booking if you have any preferences and you request a room on a lower floor, then get allocated a room on the eighth, the top, floor. The bathroom was one of the smallest I’ve come across in a top line hotel, and the door did not close unless you gave it a hefty shove. The door to the adjacent room squealed like a stuck pig whenever it was opened and closed. There was no hot water on two mornings and the system moaned occasionally, but mostly on one particular night. And you shouldn’t need to mention the water situation, although some guests did, when it is obvious; the hotel should be smart enough to apologise up front. Other than that, the bed was comfortable and the staff very charming. The location is good.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We sincerely regret that your stay did not meet your expectations and that we fell short in providing the experience you deserved. We’re sorry to hear that your request for a lower-floor room was not honored and that the bathroom’s size and door issues detracted from your comfort. Additionally, we deeply regret the inconvenience caused by the lack of hot water, the noise from the adjacent room, and the system issues you experienced. On a positive note, we’re glad you found the bed comfortable, enjoyed the charm of our staff, and appreciated the convenient location. We are actively reviewing the issues you raised and will address them to ensure a better experience for our guests in the future. Should you give us another opportunity to welcome you back, we would be delighted to ensure a smoother and more enjoyable stay. Warm Regards, Sarah Jenkins Rooms Divison Manager

Pleasant room (city view suite) of a good standard, nicely furnished if a little Spartan, a comfortable king bed and large bathroom - great views across the Melb CBD and Albert Park Lake. Quite reasonably priced as far as Melbourne city hotels go but quite a lot of evidence that it’s rather tired.
Staff were courteous, friendly and helpful upon every interaction.
I wish we hadn’t paid for a buffet breakfast to be included as it was lacklustre and nothing much left at the 45 minute mark prior to closing. The hot dishes were cold. There weren’t many clean tables to sit at and the one table we found, we were suddenly ambushed and had it taken over by an overseas bus tour group. My new rule is don’t bother with the buffet breakfast.
Once upon a time in its heyday this establishment was the Parkroyal St Kilda Road and used to be of a very good standard. Unfortunately times change and entropy and austerity prevail.

Eastbourne, United Kingdom299 contributions97 helpful votesIs there anything local for breakfast/brunch & transportation into the city suggestion please 👍
Hotel offers buffet in the main restaurant and cafe a menu. Nearby there is the Prahran markets and Chapel St has a plethora of cool cafes.
Hi Dougie…..you have an exciting trip to Australia planned!!!
Best way to access the hotel from the Airport is by Taxi of which there are plenty at the International Terminal. IO would also recommend a taxi to the Cruise terminal which is only 5 to10 minutes across Albert park from us. This will be a lot easier to manage your luggage.
If you have time to explore we are on one the majoy tram lines which can take you directly into the City and Arts precincts of Melbourne. Melbourne is famous for its laneways and secret hidden restaurants.....let us know if you need some recommendations so you can eat like a local. .
Definitely call them. They will let you drop bags early as stated already. Probably on an individual basis and availability
Yes, but it is only a mini-bar fridge.
Have you thought about storing your baggage at Melbourne airport. They have a luggage storage facility.
