It was a treat to stay at the Windsor. I have dined here a couple of times over the last 30 years and was very keen to stay overnight. I love the history, architecture and stateliness of the building.

The building is wonderful, no doubt, but also the proximity to southbank, southern cross and Melbourne city is fantastic. Everything in the hotel was perfect. We arrived in a small group and they provided us with meeting space and all we required. Well done.

This is an elegant and historic hotel that must have been marvelously grand in her day. Sadly the decor needs upgrading, there is obvious maintenance required to paintwork and bathroom tiles and hardware. The soft furnishings are old, dated and worn. The room was quite dark and gloomy. Worst of all is the very strong smell of must throughout the...

Rooms nice and quiet but a bit stuffy, aircon could use updating, no in room breakfast choice other than that a nice experience in an old world hotel. Comfy pillows and friendly staff. Close walk down to the mall.

A delightful and historic institution with exceptional staff. I hope that they will preserve its character and storied past, as well as its historic architectural detail and personality. The location couldn't be better for exploring Melbourne and its neighborhoods.

We could not fault anything with our stay at the Hotel Windsor. The room was amazing and well above our expectations, the in-room dining was beautiful and very prompt. As was the delivery of our requested pillows from the great pillow menu !! All the staff were very attentive and lovely to deal with. Thanks for a great stay only...

The location of the hotel is good. The decoration/design is ok, looks old fashioned and elegant. The actual rooms are too old and boring. Floors make heaps of noise. One night I was woken many times by the person above us walking and the noise of the floorboards. The door handles are old and stiff and struggle to latch. We...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
