Good hotel, great location, good prices, excellent reception staff, especially Alice. Rooms are nice and great pillows.
We stayed 7 nights but thete is a with problem housekeeping. In spite of leaving out make up my room now placard, our room was still not made up 8 hours later(4pm) Reception said they had received many complaints about house keeping.
On the following Sunday we left at 9am. The housekeepers was cleaning the room opposite and we left the placard again.
My partner tripped on an uneven paver in Queen Street and apart from cuts and bruises, she was in shock. Alice gave he first aid , but my partner was desperate for a brandy. The bar was closed and Alice directed us to the restaurant, where I told the girl about my partners fall and the urgent need for a drink. The lady didn't have good Engish and didn't know what brandy or "Cog Nack " was. Once I eventually got through to her that Cognac was fine, she had great difficulty understanding double shot or what glass to put it in, initially holding up a single shot glass. After about 10 minutes I finally got what I wanted.
At 2pm my partner desperately was shaking and needed to lay down.
Sadly room was as we left it 5.5 hours earlier. Receptionist advised that they do departing guest rooms first, so I suppose if you are a long stay guest you are penalised for that.
We said my injured partner needed to lay down, so just bring 2 towels, a toilet roll and two forks and not to make up the room.
Eventually a girl arrived with two towels. We asked her for a toilet roll and two forks. A man came back later with 2 forks no towels. Then another man came with another 2 forks. Fortunately he had a trolley and we finally got the toilet rolls. 5 minutes later another man came with another 2 towels, 2 forks and a toilet roll.at 3pm a girl came and asked if we wanted our room made up.
It was like a bad comedy farce. Understanding English by the housekeeping and bar lady was a serious problem
I would definitely stay again, but I would be better prepared for the problems.
It's a real shame because everything else was good. Their restaurant Munro's has good meals at good prices and special prices nearly every night. Morgane and the other wait staff were good as well.

Yes, the pool is heated. Yes, it is small - I got in about five strokes in a length - but excellent for aquarobics or aqua walking or jogging.
The location of this hotel is great and it was a very suitable mid-priced hotel for our group. The rooms are fairly typical, clean and tidy - mine looked onto a back alley so was fairly quiet most of the time and I wasn't bothered about a view. I like having the toiletries in dispenser bottles in the shower rather than those individual plastic bottles that get thrown out. The breakfast buffet is adequate but not wonderful - I probably wouldn't get it again as there are so many other options locally. If you want to charge individual bar bills to your room or a credit card in the restaurant, order at the bar. Table service won't split the bill.
This is a historic building - it has many nice features - there are some areas that could do with some maintenance but nothing that adversely affected me.

Stayed at the Victoria for 3 nights prior to my cruise, centrally located near but Tram lines, tons of shopping, tourist info office at bottom of the hill, Town Hall and 2 main stations on either side both in easy walkable distance or just catch the free tram.
Room itself small, compact with nice bathroom, bed soft, hot water comes up quick and very hot!
Staff friendly and helpful especially Nick (2nd shift), actually let me hold a phone adapter until I leave tomorrow morning.
One of only negatives was the halls are sort of maze like with fire glass "fire" doors scattered AND on my 1st night since I was having issues navigating tv channels they sent up this extremely rude "security" man who was not at all helpful accept to try to rush me telling me "I need to go home....", and having a safe is nice but it's an older style so much different than what I'm used to.
Since this is my 3rd and last time I'm coming to Australia I'd say I'd stay again BUT.....

Stayed here recently in a quick trip to Melbourne. The hotel is old but has been well renovated. The room was compact and well set out. The hotel has Happy Hour each night in their bar. Their restaurant is next door to hotel accessible from inside the hotel or from the street. The hotel has a roof top pool, sauna and small gym. A very pleasant stay.

This is our 4th time to stay at The Victoria Hotel, last time was 11 years ago! It’s the perfect location to all the must see in Melbourne CBD. Tram is easy walk and only 5-10 mins walk to Fed Square, Flinders Station, Chinatown, Bourke St Mall, etc.

We stayed for 3 nights, my family of 4 (2 adults and 2 teens) and stayed in Heritage Queen Twin Room. We were allocated room 180 south wing of the building - 1st floor. Supposed to have 2 queen beds but there were only 1 king and 1 double which was perfect for us. The room has been updated since we last stayed, more modern and bathroom is nicer. Had plenty of space, beds were comfy and room was clean. Best part is the blockout blinds which helps us sleep in. The shower was ok, temp warm/hot enough but water pressure could be better.

Husband used the gym facilities and said there was a very small indoor pool as well. The fish tank at the mezzanine level was so nice, some of the fishes were big already!

Check in was quick and easy, all friendly reception staff. Since we had a late afternoon flight we were allowed a later check out till 12pm.

Highly recommend places to eat when in Melbourne - Brunetti (yummy seafood pasta and the desserts!), Lune (pastry to die for!), Kumo Dessert (best soufflé pancake), White Tomato (best Korean BBQ), Chimnutz (cake cone ice-cream!), Flinders waffle (comes in redbean and Nutella filling), Agathe Pastisseri (South Melbourne Markets), American Doughtnut (Queen Victoria Market), Sweet Canteen (coffee and best cakes) and Inasal express (filo food).

We shopped at Spencer Outlet, DFO south wharf (caught the tram to both) and Bourke St Mall.

We caught Didi from Avalon Airport to the hotel (cost $82). Then on the way home- we caught the tram to South Cross Station (easy walk with our luggages) and caught the Airport Bus (family tickets $51).

See you again next time The Vic Hotel!

I was travelling with my sister and we had separate rooms. The hotel receptionist went out of his way to get us rooms on the same floor, which was greatly appreciated. The hotel staff were excellent through our entire stay. While our rooms were basic they were clean and very comfortable. Relatively quite stay, no traffic noise. The buffet breakfast is well worth the price ($25 if you pre-book by midnight) and we enjoyed $25 steak night on the Tuesday night. The Vic is centrally located and easy walking to major sites and close to tram stops in Bourke Street Mall and Swanston Street. Very happy with our stay. I'm staying there again in August.

The rooms were spotless and had blinds that darkened the room really well, you could have a good hot shower, staff were extremely friendly and the site is ideally located to all of the CBD attractions. A bonus was that the venue was within the free tram area which made getting around really easy. The minor negatives we found was that the shower didn't have a soap holder and the hotel didn't have an airport shuttle but they were more than helpful by ordering a taxi for. Overall good value accommodation and we will definitely use the venue again

Selected this Hotel because of its central location and very reasonable tariff as well as other positive reviews. Check in was very efficient and I was very pleasantly surprised when they could give me access to my room mid morning, despite the check in time being after 2pm. The breakfast buffet was very good value for money- especially when booked in advance, as this attracted a discount. The room was well presented and the daily service was satisfactory. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful.

I love everything about the hotel, the room service, the breakfast (although there was not enough variety for breakfast for different days) and the quiet environment in the hotel.
Except that, the service at the front desk was a little bit slow during our checked-in and checked-out which took us over 30 minutes to almost one hour.
Also a concern on room service, the used towels (wet towels in the bathroom) each day were not removed although replacements were made.
I also would prefer that, bathroom is swept daily and if possible bedroom is vacuumed every two or three days rather than not even done for the entire time of stay (for our case 8 days).
Otherwise, I am happy with the overall services provided in the hotel.

Since the 1980s the Victoria has been my choice of accomodation when I visit Melbourne. As usual it was a satisfying experience this year thanks to the hotel’s central CBD location, its reasonable tariff, its helpful staff, the comfortable room, the good breakfast package and the pleasure of dining in the excellent Mr Munro restaurant which has recently re-opened for lunch and dinner. The only downside is the discontinuation of laundry and dry cleaning services which is a potential problem for guests having a lengthy stay. I hope this will change - it is the only flaw in the experience offered by the Victoria.
