Stayed at Sophia many times and until recently had great service, a change of desk staff is all it took....The men who now look after the reception are not a patch on the girl that used to run it. They will not let you have...More
We stayed in a family room. The room was large and comfortable. Unfortunately there was a demolition on the block next door which was very noisy from early in the morning. Breakfast was included in the room price. We were at breakfast at 930am which...More
I am trying to make a reservation for a 3 night stay with Hotel Sophia, they are telling me they could not secure my deposit on my credit card, but my credit card company is telling me that I have not had any transactions process....More
Terrible experience at this dodgy hotel. Apart from the fact it's next to a large construction site with no double-glazing and inadequate blinds that let light in, the hotel charged $240 to my debit MasterCard as a 'deposit' on top of my room tariff of...More
We were a little skeptical when we first booked into hotel Sophia, it was hard to believe that a room for $90 a night could be any good, but we were pleasantly surprised. Breakfast in the cute little breakfast room was a great way to...More

Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air
of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.

Gday. I think they have a policy of a deposit taken from the credit card for everyone which is held. I checked my bank online and it was taken as "pending", but never went through as a charge. But ask them if youre unsure. I know they are not great communicators but they were honest with me and I didn't get any deduction.
Hope this helps.
