comfy rooms, 100mb wifi, nice building. We stayed in a dorm room but still had plenty of room for ourselves, also tidy bathrooms. The manager was a lovely lady. 9/10 def would recommend for any backpackers who are looking for cheap but still good acommondation.

After 3 weeks in creepy hostel, I finally find a warm place, in a real house. It was very nice to be welcomed by this charming couple, John and Jill, who would do whatever it takes to make you comfortable. The beds are ok, but it is very close to the city center, and quiet by night (except if your... More

If you need to find a place to stay for 1 night, it's ok. However, there are much nicer hostels close by, only they are often fully booked, so then this would be your solution. The hostel is not very clean, but the owners are extremely friendly, which makes up for a lot.

We stayed June 16, 2011 not 2014. We booked our beds online then confirmed on the way to the location. After reading guide books we knew to ask about linens and pillows. The owner gave us excellent directions to her property. When we arrived, the owner learned we had never visited a backpacker before (my husband our 11 year old... More

I've done a lot of backpacking the last 10 yrs and stayed in my share of hostels. But I've recently realized that I'm past sharing rooms or bunking with 7 others so I got my own ensuite room during my stay in Whitianga. I booked at the Cat's PJs mainly for convenience: I didn't care to drag my backpack any... More

Cute little hostel in Whitianga. Stayed only one night recently, was passing through on Magic Bus. The room itself is not cozy--very no frills. 6 bunk beds, all girl dorm. Bathrooms were ok, small but sufficient. Loved the living room though! It was so cozy and nice to hang out in. Was good because it was raining so everyone just... More

I stayed here for 2 nights in June 2008. It's a small, quiet hostel on the main street of Whitianga - the Intercity bus will stop outside if you ask for it. The rooms, including the huge common area, are perhaps in need of redecoration, but this is more than made up for by the friendly atmosphere. The owner is... More

This is a B&B with a difference... Personality, quirky andffantastic views over Doubtless Bay from the main guest bedroom upstairs. 3 rooms all double 2 with own bathroom facilities one with a loo down the hall. The breakfast was excellent, homemade yogurt, fruit, lot's of different jam. Honey from local hives still on the comb. The owner is one of... More
