We booked to stay at the Mt Albert Motor Inn but it seems we looked at pictures/reviews for some other similar named places. DO NOT BOOK the Mt Albert Motor Inn! Even the old broken dilapidated sign gave us warning signs!! It looked terrible with “interesting” guests hanging around outside. It is very run down and was unbelievable for the price we were paying - not to mention that the one-bedroom motel became a “studio” when we got there. We were more than happy to drive away and forfeit $160 to cancel the booking. Have stayed all over the world and the first time we’ve ever done that that!!
The facilities are quite dated but the room was clean and well looked after by the cleaning crew. The owner and team were well mannered. The internet connection was adequate. The motel is well placed for access to the motorways and easy to get to. The local amenities were easily accessible and provided a variety of dining experiences. If you have difficulty with stairs ask for a downstairs unit as they are a bit steep and tricky in the wet.
This place is unhiginic unsafe do not stay here Grotty looking. rooms smell, bed sheets have stains, rooms are cold bathrooths are small and grose rooms are not secure as we had two laptops stolen and a phone no way can you classs yourself as a motel this place needs knocking down !!!!!!
Unfortunately I paid before I saw the room so I did spend the night. The manager was nice but The room was not pleasant. The bathroom was just plain nasty. There was no way I would have used that shower. There was a stain on the bed cover ..... I do not want to know what it was. I would even say it's the worst motel room I have ever slept in. The manager said it needs renovation. I told him no .... it needs pulling down. Dodgy internet. Bad pillows. Very very old and sad looking. And they charged me $120. Don't even bother checking them out. Not a nice motel and not typical of New Zealand motels. The tourist board should close them down
Situated in Mt Albert close to rail, bus and motorway links, and within 15 minutes reach of the CBD it's a good 'jumping off' point for a stay in Auckland. The rooms were clean, however the bathroom could have done with a spruce up as neither of the windows closed, (could be chilly in winter). the kitchen was great, with the ability to self cater, but the on-site cafe is excellent with a great range and reasonably priced too. If you're after luxury, then this isn't for you. Bu I found the staff to be really helpful and pleasant and the cost reasonable too.
