Looking for a place to get some couple space before the madness of the Christmas season we were attracted by the centrality of The Hotel Britomart. The minute you walk in you are enveloped by the bespoke scent infused through the air system. With a refreshing tea before we left the lobby our guide talked us through the amazing features of art, use of materials from the old site, the use of New Zealand suppliers where possible, the green rating and technology in each room as he took us to our suite. The room was very cleverly laid out and attention to detail was outstanding. It is a great place to base yourself as you explore all downtown Auckland has to offer and that is a great deal!! After a beautiful meal and some drinks we made our way back to our room set the blackout blinds and slept the sleep of kings. A quick trip downstairs in the morning to the in-house bakery for pastries and coffee, eaten while watching the city and sea come alive was a perfect end to a mini break!!

We purchased the Summer package that included the Taste of Kingi dinner for our Anniversary and stayed in the Waitakere view room. Although the rooms are in the smaller side the bed, decor, bathroom was high quality and comfortable. The view was also stunning. The staff were all helpful and friendly and surprised us with a complimentary bottle of Pinot Noir to help celebrate the occasion. The central CBD location was also a bonus as we could walk along the waterfront and viaduct to have drinks in the local bars. Overall a 5 star experience. Thanks team

The location is tough to beat. Very handy to the Ferry, restaurants, shops, and commercial Bay. The decor is very natural with soothing colours and good natural light. My favourite element though was the fantastic attention to detail: compostable slippers, Tote bag provided to use while you stay, local ceramics and local toiletry products. Everything was very well thought out.

Lots of positives about the Britomart - unbeatable location near the waterfront, ferries etc. & surrounded by some excellent bars & restaurants. Very modern, immaculately clean room, powerful shower, very nice toiletries, comfortable bed & great views of the harbour. We found the lights a little difficult to master but the automatic blackout blinds were great. The room was super quiet - we never heard neighbours or corridor noise.
However, we were disappointed on arrival at 1.30 pm after 2 days flying from the UK at the "welcome". "Check-in is 3pm, you can leave your luggage here & buy a drink in the library upstairs" Having sat on a plane for so long the last thing we wanted to do was sit in a bar for a further 90 minutes & I find it hard to believe that by that time there wasn't a room available. A family with a crying baby in the same circumstances also had to wait in the lounge with us. We just felt that the attitude was very inflexible. Having read all the reviews about friendly, welcoming staff, I have to say that we found the opposite. Every time we arrived at or left the hotel, the young reception staff never even looked up from their computers to acknowledge us.

+1
This hotel has it all, exceptional service, beautiful decor and all the touches you’d expect in a luxury hotel. From the phone reservation, car valet through to check-in and check out - very efficient and a high standard of service by a variety of very friendly people.
The room was very well appointed with automated blinds, lights, temperature and fan. The bed was huge and super comfortable too.
I also had a massage and it was possibly one of the best I’ve had. It was very, very relaxing and again exceptional service.
Highly recommend this place and will definitely stay again when in AKL

We had been invited to dinner in the city and decided it would be fun to have a staycation at the touted Hotel Britomart. My husband made the booking, breakfast included and made sure he booked a good room. Rates were not cheap so we were expecting a great stay. Check-in at 2pm took an age with a queue of others also checking in. We were told we had been upgraded but when we arrived at the room it was underwhelming. Very small and claustrophobic. New and modern sure, but couldn’t fathom the upgrade. I Googled the hotel and it appears all rooms are the same size, the upgrade must be the view. We had a view over the harbour. Then I had a hissy fit when the tea-making facility did not contain Earl Grey. We had invited the dinner inviters to our room for pre- dinner champagne. Ordered flutes from room service that arrived promptly but because of the small room it was hardly relaxing. Fortunately we had an early dinner reservation. Buffet breakfast was satisfactory though espresso coffee and tea (Earl Grey!!) an extra $5. I was disappointed to find that anything from the a la carte menu was an extra $10 so missed out on a Southland cheese roll as I felt that as the breakfast included fee was $25pp it would have been an expensive breakfast. I know now that this is a ‘green’ hotel with NZ ceramics (1 vase) in the room and kawakawa in the tea but I’ll go for a bit of opulence elsewhere next staycation.

We take pride in sharing the very best of Britomart and downtown Auckland with our guests and I am sorry to hear that on this occasion we did not meet all your expectations. I appreciate your feedback in relation to our rooms, our rooms are quite unlike any other hotel. We have carefully curated a homely luxury lodge style feel with the design of our hotel, a home away from home in the Britomart neighbourhood. Our aim is to showcase our guests the very best Aotearoa has to offer, while this includes the two vases by local ceramic artisan Rachel Carter it also includes a stunning collection of Maori art from artists such as Shane Cotton and Ralph Hotere. Thank you for your feedback in relation to the in room amenities, this is something we can investigate further to see where we can extend our selection to suit our guests taste. All feedback is helpful and allows us to walk in our guests shoes, refining our daily operations where possible. Ngā mihi nui, Clinton Farley General Manager

My partner and I stayed at the Hotel Britomart for an early V day retreat and it was perfect. From the small details in the room to the service at the front desk, it was a seamless stay. We stayed in the Laneway room and it was a great size for us, the king bed was incredibly comfortable. The bathroom and shower were beautiful and the attention to detail was clear with the Sans products and a convenient shower ledge for placing your facewash etc. The design of the room was contemporary and celebrated the best parts of NZ handcrafted products such as the locally made vases and a great selection of bar snacks and NZ wines. We ordered room service from Kingi which I would highly recommend. Overall a great stay and we will be visiting again I am sure!

Stunning Weekend Retreat. Great location, would not recommend Kingi as it was too expensive and left us feeling "hungry" not value for money. Everything else was superb. Right in the heart of great shopping and restaurants - highly recommend The Store straight across the road for breakfast and coffee. We live on the North Shore in Auckland but this was a real treat, staff and service were excellent. This is what Auckland needed! We'll be back.

Had a recent stay at Hotel Britomart. To start off, the staff are very helpful, location great and loved the free usage of the bikes. What left us scratching our heads was the room. Extremely compact, even having paid for one of the larger corner ones. With two large suitcases between us, we needed to breath in to navigate around the bed to get to the very dark, dungeon like bathroom. There lies our biggest dilemma, how to turn the lights on !!!! I know this is 4 star green but geez, we were totally stumped and it was hit and miss as to whether we showered in the dark. We were not alone with this as we spoke to another couple who were just as confused as us. It may be worthwhile having a staff member showing the ropes of the room when checking in.
