The Crowne Plaza Auckland, an IHG Hotel, garners mixed feedback from visitors. While many praise its central location, convenient for exploring local attractions and dining, construction nearby can be a nuisance. The hotel's atmosphere is often described as serene with modern, clean rooms, though some guests feel the rooms could benefit from a refresh.
The amenities, including in-room coffee machines and comfortable beds, are a highlight, yet the lounge offerings and modernization are areas noted for improvement. Service is generally well-regarded, although the breakfast experience sometimes falls short. Opinions on value diverge; affordable dining contrasts with perceptions of high room rates and underwhelming breakfast value.

Hotel's Favourite
I stayed for one night and cannot fault this place. From the check in, through to the amazingly comfortable beds.
Our room was very clean room.
This is the very First hotel I’ve ever stayed in that had a coffee machine in the room. SO good!
.Very quiet rooms despite being in Auckland city.
And I must say that the breakfast staff were incredible. I would love to commend the chef who was making the Omelettes on Sunday morning and the lovely waitress (who had the curly hair) who made our coffees and then sent us away with another coffee.
Fantastic selection for breakfast. I would love to come and stay again but next time for much longer. Thank you to everyone who made our stay pleasant.

We only stayed here one night, after an 11 hour flight in from Hong Kong overnight, we thought stop the night in Auckland, before setting off on our road trip.
The hotels location is good, a 10 minute walk to the waterfront along Queen st, and your in the heart of the bars and restaurants centre, very lively and noisy, hence we thought not to book a hotel in that area.
The hotel has a very odd entrance now, owing to major road works in front, but then it seems the whole of Auckland has major construction and roadworks going on, far to much at once.
You have to park on the 7 floor of the car park to gain advantage of the reduced park, then get the lift down to the 4 th floor reception.
The staff are very friendly, our flight got in at 07.30, but they stored our luggage until our room was available at 13.00, we just went off for a wander around the city and waterfront.
We both think the hotel is in need of a bit of renovation, especially the bedrooms, which are beginning to show lots of signs of wear and tear, also the bathrooms are showing there age, especially with mould in areas, but the room was very clean and the beds extremely comfortable.
Breakfast was excellent, plenty of choices, fresh omelette cooked whilst you wait, and generally all of it was of good quality.
So this was a good stay, but let down by needing a bit of renovation here and there, and having stayed in a few Crown plaza around the world, this let’s itself down.

We stayed at Crowne Plaza Auckland for 6 nights. During our stay we have received great service from the concierge, the reception staff, the house keeping and the bar. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. Our room and the bed were comfortable with a nice added touch like leaving a ‘deep sleep pillow spray’ on our bedside table.
If you are travelling on a budget, do not purchase items from a mini bar as they are overpriced.

The hotel general manager called me to tell me that I would be charged $750 because I smoked outside the window of the room one time due to the need to subsequently shampoo the carpets and curtains. When I explained that as no smoke entered into the room at all, this would be a ridiculous action. Also given that this has to be done in any case due to the hotel being used as a Covid-19 isolation facility (and that I am here without my consent), then I consider the room would have to be deep-cleaned as a matter of course. Therefore the hotel management is directly charging for a service it already has been paid for. The hotel management has forgotten what customer service means and I certainly would not recommend this hotel. The General Manager came across as rude and aggressive and my experience of staying in hotels around the world is such that this attitude would pervade the whole atmosphere of the hotel. I certainly don't want to stay in a hotel where the staff operate under such an authoritarian regime.

Stayed recently as a family of 5 in 2 separate rooms. Check in was easy (quiet weekend), rooms were spacious and well appointed, although not a fan of the shower over the bathtub. Gym was very well equipped and fairly spacious. Breakfast buffet very good. (Self) Car parking was good at $10/night and you can come and go as you please?
Booked directly through the IHG app and got a good deal that included breakfast. Staff were friendly.
Fairly central location although the main restaurant area is 15mins walk away at Viaduct Harbour. There are many (mainly ethnic) restaurants close by however and only a block away from Queen Street.
Would definitely stay again, although room rates can vary depending on what demand is like at the time.

Nice, clean hotel. The staff who I had contact with were friendly. The location was within walking distance of Sky City and the Hop On Hop Off Bus stop. Breakfast was very good and had a lot of choices to choose from. We ordered the continental breakfast which was more than sufficient for us. We thought the price for our breakfast in American dollars was well worth what we got. I would recommend The Crown Plaza, Auckland.

The hotel is connected to a mall and a multi story car park (where hotel guests are invited to park) in the centre of Auckland. There were many roadworks taking place when we arrived and some of the roads were closed both to road traffic and pedestrians.
Check in was quick and efficient and we were soon in our room on the Club floor. The room was very big and spacious with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the city and bay. The bathroom was equally spacious with a separate tub and shower cubicle and complimentary amenities were provided.
The club lounge was big and quiet each time we visited. The staff there were attentive and the selection of drinks and canapés extensive. A great space to work or relax.
We chose to have breakfast at the main restaurant, found on the ground floor near reception. A good selection of both hot and cold options was available. Being in the main lobby area, it feels quite busy, both from other guests checking in and out but also people using the mall.
The hotel was a perfectly good business hotel in the centre of New Zealand’s biggest city, perfect for a short stop over or a business trip.

We spent a night here in late Feb 2020 at the end of a North Island road trip and it proved to be a great choice. As many have noted, there’s quite a bit of construction activity in the city, but the activity around this hotel was not an issue, especially compared to the work being done near the harbor. So, if you’re driving as we were, I’d definitely favor this area for now if you want to be in central Auckland.
Parking was convenient, and a bit cheaper than other downtown hotels at $26 per night. The parking structure does not have any Crowne Plaza signage though. If you drive up through the front entrance the parking entrance is to your left and is signed as Atrium, which is the name of the mall adjacent to the hotel. So, we took a leap of faith that this was the hotel parking lot and it turned out to be the case.
We drove to floor 7 which is the first level of general parking and quickly found a spot. Take the lift down to floor 4 to check in.
We found the staff to be courteous and the room to be very satisfactory. Beds too soft for my wife and I but just right for my daughter! Breakfast was included and is top notch, lots of choices and most of them well done. Fresh fruit and juices were terrific.
We wound up leaving one night early due to our planned flight looking full, and there was no problem in getting the second night cancelled. We’re usually Hilton customers and just signed up for the IHG program for this stay. Happy to report a great experience.

A centrally located hotel within walking distance of the harbour and other attractions. Stayed here for two nights to recover from a long flight before setting off on our New Zealand odyssey. Check in is efficient and our room was on the 23rd floor which afforded views across the city. The room was spacious and clean and the king size bed very comfortable. The bathroom was stocked with good quality accessories and the shower was powerful and hot. Ideal. However, we were close to lift and the whooshing noise when it was in use would annoy some. Breakfast was a little disappointing. The buffet is expensive for what’s on offer and the quality of the food we found average at best. At the time we stayed there was major construction work in progress outside the hotel although we were out during the day so it didn’t bother us.

This hotel is often not my first choice in Auckland, but it is a good dependable fall back when the more luxurious hotels are too expensive. It has been about 4 years since I stayed here last, and it is still pretty much the same as when I was here last.
There are significant roadworks and detours outside and around the hotel, but other than some inconvenience for taxis, this caused no real issues for my stay. Other reviews have said that there was a lot of noise at night from the roadworks, but I had no such problem. Maybe a room on a high floor towards the rear helped.
The hotel interior is a little dated these days, but it is very well maintained. Rooms and public areas are really clean. The room sizes are generous and the rooms have everything you need and expect (iron, safe, minibar, blackout curtains, toiletries). There is a good sized desk with power outlets to be able to work effectively from the room. WiFi is OK.
Breakfast isn’t anything special, but it’s ok. It is a great location for getting out into the city (…even the Viaduct isn’t too far to walk), so there are plenty of great breakfast, lunch, and dinner choices outside the hotel.
Checkin was a pain, but this was not the fault of the staff. There were a group of people needlessly causing a fuss at the front desk and several other rude guest trying to push in. In all it took about 30 mins to check in. Again not the fault of the staff…but an extra staff member on the desk would have helped speed things up.
In short, Crowne Plaza is a good dependable…but not fancy…hotel option in the heart of Auckland. Recommended.

Good Morning Sean W, Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback from your stay with us at Crowne Plaza Auckland. I am glad to read that you found the hotel comfortable for your stay and that the location worked for you. The roadworks have certainly been annoying for us but most work is now underground so it is less disruptive. I do hope we will have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future. Kind Regards Tim

Yes very much there
There is free wifi - not sure about unlimited - but I am sure in a 4.5 star hotel that it is
Not in the rooms. I think there is an area outside the hotel for smoking.
