My review is short and sweet. Even though you may be a New Zealand resident/citizen with a New Zealand issued legal document (drivers licence and/or 18+ card) you are not welcome at this hostel without your passport. I prepaid online and stood speechless at reception when the passive receptionist broke the bizarre news. I demanded a refund and had to...

Great location just off Queen street. Easy access for the airport bus stop. Building is slightly older but had everything you'd need for a backpackers. Free WiFi. Staff are great! Real friendly & welcoming! Home from home!

As a backpacker going to a backpacker's accomodation, I look for: 4 walls, a roof, a matress, decent common areas but most of all nice people. Because the good times you will have only depends on people you will spend it with (and that's the reason why I didn't stay at Base hostel which is nothing more than what I...

Great location and the showers were decent (these are the only good things). If its hot and you need the window open your'e in for a Very noisy sleep due to the bar downstairs and the street sweepers that start at 5:00am. The staff were generally pretty friendly except on Sunday evening at 5.30pm when we went for a drink...

I had no money, knew nobody and never stayed in a hostel before. Not only did they go out of their way to help me get me back on my feet they also left with unforgettable memories of that place. I become really ill over the xmas period and the hostel staff helped so much and helped me not feel...

I spent 3 nights in this place, for convenience. I didn't have a serviceable credit card and the price was within my budget, though certainly not what I would call value for money. Other nearby establishments offer one's own bathroom for less than the $85/night I paid. I booked a 4th night and was told by a large, native woman...

Standard cheap hostel - no frills and maybe in need of a bit of a dust in places. Double room was a decent size with big windows but as it is right in the heart of the town centre you couldn't have it open for any length of time due to the noise. There a few flights of stairs to...

bit of a dump really, communal areas are poor, place feels a little run down. rooms are basic, kitchen to small for the size of the hostel. overall very dated, could do with a makeover. location is great tho.

I changed to this hostel after staying at another in the CBD. I was missing the traveller vibe, and was hoping to find it here. The staff was...there. Checked me in, gave my key, and that was about it. I've noticed this service in hostel in NZ, and am not sure why. I worked at a hostel in the UK...
