1) Had been overcharged on a credit card, which is currently a nightmare to have reimbursed. 2) Tried calling for an entire month to sort the above out, never an answer, and answer phone is always too full to leave a message 3) Due to the above, couldn't get a hold of even after emailing and more phone calls to try and arrange an early check-in 4) bedding was stained and dirty - see photos 5) bathroom was filthy - see photos 6) carpet was filthy with old food stuck to it - see photos 7) had cigarette fumes seeping through the vents all night - when we complained, they said they would tell management, but nothing was done about it, and then we couldn't get hold of anyone to help 8) on a cold wintery night, you need to decide what is more important: being cold and being able to sleep, or being warm and not being able to sleep due to the immense sound of the heat pump, this is on top of the loud street noise. This is an awful hotel - possibly the worst I've ever stayed at in NZ.

After viewing the website it ticked all the boxes, central, parking, restaurant, cafe. I paid $234 for 1 night! On arrival there was a car park so I used it, walked through a disgusting back entrance, filthy, gloomy, smelly. Receptionist was rude and not welcoming. Got told the car park was gone I had to move to Wilsons at the back. Went up to room via dirty smelly lift. Room was freezing, carpets dirty, curtains all sizes. Really disappointed and wanted to leave, walked downstairs to get dinner, NO restaurant like website and TripAdvisor state, luckily it’s on the boardwalk of eateries. Noise all night, no sleep only to be woken up at 5am to loud banging somewhere outside, decided then and there to get the hell out after 3 hours sleep. Waste of money that I wouldn’t pay $100 for. Will never go back.

Probably one of the worst places we have stayed in...ever. Booked a 'suite' but is just a cavernous weird room with a locked bank safe in it. Clean is the best thing I can say. Won't be back. Car park is in a nasty back alley and they charge for the privilege.

You get what you pay for - lovely old hotel in great location for central city, bars, restaurants - even to walk to FMG Stadium; rooms large, clean and beds comfortable; bathroom was clean, adequate. Downsides

Sorry to say but this was THE most tired, rundown, unloved yet expensive hotel I’ve ever had the misfortune of having to staying at. I’m sure ‘in its day’ it was a beautiful place; Victorian styled, stylish furniture, tiles bathroom, massive windows facing the street. The size of the spider webs on the window would’ve been great props for the movie Arachnophobia! The black mould on the net curtains was a testament to the lack of care. Parking was originally not available until we said we wouldn’t stay (not like we had the choice but they didn’t know). But the seriously narrow dingy alleyway followed by an equally manky walkway that led past the uncared for back entries of other businesses to the foyer was a major turnoff. The young man who greeted me was polite and friendly. The highlight of a low point in our business trip.
