McHardy Lodge is located at the top of "Hospital Hill" in Napier. We stayed there for three nights. Absolutely gorgeous lodge. Our host, Yvonne, was extremely gracious and friendly. Breakfast is served at a table overlooking the Hawkes Bay. Food was excellent! Yvonne was extremely helpful in providing us information on things to do in the city, wineries to visit,... More

Spent 3 lovely nights in this upmarket bed and breakfast type hotel. It is right on the top of Hospital Hill where there are some great views. It has an unusual history as formerly a private house which survived the earthquake and subsequently an obstetric home. My hostess Yvonne was very helpful and her suggestions of things to do were... Within easy distance of down-town Napier and just round the corner from the enchanting Botanical Gardens and the Victorian Cemetery, which is full of interesting headstones, we thought the position of McHardy Lodge was excellent. The beds are exceptionally comfortable and all the bedding is first-rate. The pillows are wonderful. We found the bathrooms disappointing, shower head designed for someone... More

Thank you for such a positive review of McHardy Lodge – your compliments on the location, bedding, breakfast and gorgeous Pacific views are much appreciated. If you are looking for a get away in historical accommodation, extraordinary views of the bay with an attentive host then McHardys in the Hawkes Bay is a must. Its quiet location, beautiful decor and history takes you back in time to period which once was. Loved our stay and look forward to returning

New Zealand is my absolute favourite holiday destination, and McHardy Lodge in Napier should be high on your bucket list. A turn-of-the-century private home that survived the 1932 earthquake with all of its charm restored. It's in a perfect location—an easy walk downtown to admire the Art Deco buildings and the view (it's on top of a hill) is superb. In fact, we chose one evening to sit out on the beautiful terrace with some cheese, bread, and a bottle... More
