Such a lovely place to stay! Only a couple of mins walk to the beach & shops etc. yet still in a quiet place surrounded by nature. The unit we were in was fully equipped and spotless, with a really comfortable bed. Great value for money, fast internet & clean facilities. Rose (the host) is so sweet and welcoming, will...

The pickled parrot offers a wonderful location close to town but far enough out that it's quiet at night. The quiet time ensures a good night's sleep for everyone while giving those who want to enjoy a drink plenty of time before they head out to the bars. Facilities are clean and well maintained with comfortable beds, a lovely lounge...

My partner and I are on a trip around New Zealand and The Pickled Parrot was our first stop. We stayed here for 3 nights and it was bliss! It was a chilled five minute walk from town and it's tucked away from the noise of the main backpackers hostels. The owner was a delight, the rooms were small but...

Great stopping off point whilst traveling in Northland. Stayed here in June, clean and friendly place. Staff attentive and friendly. Location is excellent just up from the beach, close walk to all local attractions in Paihia. Great stay, could not fault it!

Cracking backpackers in Paihia - Within easy walking distance of everything but pleasantly away from the louder areas of town so you can get a good kip! The showers are top notch and the rooms well maintained. The kitchen and lounge provide a nice social area and cover all the needs of a backpacker as far as it goes for...

We loved the Pickled Parrot! Rose was so friendly and helpful, and the accommodation was awesome; definitely one of the best backpackers we've ever stayed in. We stayed in the flat upstairs from reception which has a double bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and lounge area along with a lovely sunny deck and a second bedroom next door, which suited us (me,...

My boyfriend and I stayed one night in the private double room beside the entrance of the carpark. I can only think of one word to describe our experience and it's just "meh". We had been tenting in the rain for 2 days prior so either way, we were excited to have a hot shower and warm/dry bed. We felt...

We spent two nights here. Although we feel a bit ancient to consider ourselves 'backpackers' we enjoyed the experience! The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. The owner Rose was eager to help her guests - offering advice, storing luggage, etc, The kitchen was very well-equipped, and the wash-rooms were perfectly clean each morning. Free wi-fi, free breakfast. For guests who...

the Pickled Parrot is a charming place off the beaten track in Paihia. It's got a great little courtyard and barbeque spot plus a decent sized kitchen and lounge. Free wifi, free breakfast, and always someone to chat to if you are looking for some social interactions. The rooms are a good size, with lockers for your stuff, and the...
