We're travelling in New-Zealand for 6,5 weeks now and we've never had such a bad experience in any other hostel before as in this one. I stayed at the Peppertree Lodge in Paihia a few days ago with my boyfriend. During check-in we didn't really have a good feeling about the hostel already. The older man who checked us in...

I booked Peppertree for our stay thinking it would be suitable based on what was on the site. I have an illness so I don't travel much, but have started trying to take little trips with my mum who helps look after me. We stay at lodges or motels as they are better suited for my needs (in terms of...

We got an unfriendly welcome by the receptionist. Made us feel very unwelcome and seemed to be fed up with having new people at the hostel. We also got some unwanted advice/opinions about European monarchies and politics while we were checking in. Mould in the showers, very basic kitchen, uncomfortable beds, curfews for sitting outside at the hostel and when...

Booked here as we couldn't be guaranteed nights across the road in Pipi patch. Ok host - very negative about kiwi which made us feel not very welcome. Kitchen was good and roomy, clean dorms if very basic. Good common rooms and good price. Would recommend over Base

The lodge is in an excellent location, walking distance to all the main activity and reasonably priced. However that is all that it has going for them. The front line staff was very unfriendly and unwelcoming. There is free wifi offered but I did not bother getting the code as the less interaction I had with the receptionist the better...

Booked this after reading good reviews. It was very well located, but that is about it. There are other places in the same road that I would have far preferred. There was a lot of noise at night from other hostels nearby. Rooms were basic and clean. Kitchen was fairly clean although without a working tin opener. Rooms were ok....

Not great, very basic, beds very uncomfortable and dubious about being "clean", (hairs found on sheets). Had a stranger come visit the room at about 2am! Staff not particularly friendly or welcoming. Kitchen area missing basic utensils like tin opener and also not particularly clean. Very noisy neighbours in hostel opposite. Positives, location good and cheap

We have been there last week for three days. The hostel itself is well located, clean and quite. The only thing that really lets it down are the bed bugs! I am travelling with my boyfriend and as soon as we went to our room we spotted signs of a big infestation (we had this problem before, so we know...

Stayed four nights very friendly and helpful staff, spotlessly clean and comfortable, all noise after 10pm was looked after very well so a good nights sleep was had by all!! Close to all supermarkets and very close to the sea overall a very nice place to stay.

Due to an issue with another backpackers we had to find somewhere to stay and fast. Upon arriving the staff were so helpful and let us have their last room. The room was very very clean and tiny. The amenities were extremely clean, lounge room full of movies and books to borrow. Kitchen very clean. I cannot praise this accommodation...
