The staff were friendly, efficient and unobtrusive. At first sight the hotel is stunning and certainly we enjoyed our soak in the hot pools. There were a few niggles. Although the room appeared clean at first sight, on closer inspection it had been quite a while since the wood panelling and light switches had been cleaned. Because everyone walks along the balcony we had to keep the blinds shut until we were dressed which meant no sitting in bed drinking a morning cuppa while enjoying the view. On the other hand sleeping was difficult due to the balcony light shining through the blinds. While we were there the country moved at very short notice to level 2. All credit to the chef who managed to pull off a very creative version of eggs Benedict with substitute ingredients.

Dear Geordiegirl3300 Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback on your recent stay with us. It is with comments such as yours that we can ascertain our levels of comfort and service. It is safe to say you did not have the experience we wanted you to have and I apologise for the little niggles you encountered. We take our cleaning very seriously and the housekeeping team will be disappointed to read your feedback. The blinds should have blocked the light out completely and I am sorry this was not the case in your room. If you could be so kind to email me direct I can then find out which room you were staying in. I also like to contact you direct rather then responding online. We would love the chance to have you stay with us again and have you experience a 5 star stay. I am looking forward to hearing from you and for now take care and stay safe Yours sincerely Yuri Ponstijn General Manager yuri@princesgate.co.nz

This hotel is gorgeous, love the history. Really enjoyed the individual room styles. Great location, right next to the gardens & town. Very friendly & efficient staff. Decent breakfast too, which we added onto our nightly right. Good nightly rate.

It was very nice to stay at the Prince’s Gate hotel again where we spent the first night of our honeymoon 60 years ago. Of course things were not quite the same - the hotel has been beautifully restored. Our room was very comfortable and the meals enjoyable. The accommodation, in our view, is not terribly convenient - that is, user friendly. We found it quite difficult to get our bags from the car park behind the hotel up a short flight of stairs, on to the veranda and into our room, during a shower of rain. We also found the ‘shower over the bath’ quite difficult to negotiate. We did however appreciate the non-slip mat provided for the floor of the bath. We were surprised to be charged extra for the two glasses of orange juice we were offered at breakfast. I bit mean don’t you think? Nostalgia is great, but we will choose to experience ‘modern’ accommodation over ‘historical’ the next time we honeymoon.

Dear Ancienttraveller85 Thank you kindly for taking the time to leave your detailed feedback on your recent stay with us. I am glad you found the Hotel looking good and comfortable. I am sorry you had some issues getting to your room with your bags. One of our staff members should have offered to help and I apologise if they didn't. I am not sure what exactly happened with the charge for the orange juices. We do offer juices and coffees to our guests at breakfast however we do have to charge for them. I apologise if this was not communicated clearly enough. As we always like to exceed our guests expectations it seems we have not quite managed to do this with your stay unfortunately. I truly hope we get the chance to look after you again and have you enjoy an improved experience. Please feel free to contact myself directly so I can personally look after a booking for you. I can make sure you get the best room and deal possible. Take care and stay safe Yours sincerely Yuri Ponstijn General Manager

I was lucky enough to get a really special.price, due to cancellations from the latest change in alert levels unfortunate for the hotel but lucky for me. Saying this I would not hesitate in paying more for future trips, for this level of accommodation and superior service. Enjoyed a lovely breakfast each morning, the lovely hostess even remembered by breakfast from the day prior. Seriously faultless stay. If you are remotely undecided of your accomm choice, make it easy and book this hotel.

A relaxing stay, comfortable beds, friendly and efficient staff. Hot pools were great at the end of the day. An easy stroll to the shops, cafes, restaurants and gardens. Loved the historic atmosphere throughout the buildings. Recommended.
