This hotel was moved from another location piece by piece and each room is decorated differently. The room was large and very elegant. A word of caution - there is NO elevator - but the staff will carry your suitcases for you. Nicely located and within walking distance of the downtown. The area is very quiet. If you like historic...

We arrived after confirming our booking a week out to find they they had given our 2 bedroom deluxe suite, that had been booked to accomodate my aged mothers needs, to someone who wanted to 'stay an extra night'. After trying to give us a suite up some seriously steep steps that could never have been negotiated by mum they...

Around a 10 minutes walk from the lake Rotorua. Beautiful hotel with heritage look. Has got very big rooms with high ceiling and big bathrooms. Very friendly staff. Major eating joints and the famous eat street is less than 10 minute's walk from the hotel. Has got free parking and free Wi-Fi. Beautiful government garden is right next to the...

Nice hotel that is considered luxurious. Old building so please note that there are no elevators. Butt here are always staff who can help you with luggage. The room that we stayed in was really fantastic! Comfortable beddings and pillow and really very nice romantic atmosphere! Only thing is that sound insulation is not so good but who cares?!

It is a Grand old hotel that needs some loving care. The rooms don't need modernization but need rejuvenation and a little cleaning. The room names are unique. Loved the doors that opened to grand walk way porch on the second floor. It must have been pretty cool in it's time. Give it a chance if you can get a...

The hotel has a great ambiance unaffected by modern 'trends', and the period decorated rooms make for a special experience. More than reasonably priced. Good front desk and cocktail creators in the bar! Would definitely return with a group.

Our accommodation at the Princes Gate was in a apartment block alongside the main hotel building. The rooms were clean and functional but in need of refurbishment. All rather old and tired at the edges. And there was a fair amount of noise penetration from the apartment above. We ate out of the hotel, so cannot comment on the restaurant,...

On arrival we entered a rather lovely lobby with a view of leather sofas and chandeliers and a great deal of old world charm. The front of house staff were very friendly and efficient. Oh but what a disappointment when we were shown to our room! It was tiny! On further inspection there was nowhere for me to hang my...

Let me start with I typically do not write reviews, but I felt compelled to do so for this hotel. We are on our honeymoon, and travelling NZ. The service is world class. I have travelled to many countries for both business and pleasure, and the hotel could not do enough for you. As for the room, it was charming,...

After being told this was a great place to stay with lots of character, we chose this hotel. Yes it restored beautifully in the lobby. Our room was very small, very warm (no air conditioning) or bed had a split mattress. Our shower was so small my husband had trouble turning in it and the bathroom could not accommodate both...
