Wayne and Ingrid Tomlinson run a grand and comfortable establishment at Solitaire. Located right on Lake Tarawera not far from Rotorua and a variety of thermal features and Maori history. David, their chef does really wonderful things and Ronaldo offered good advice about the many wines available. The view from our room was spectacular, best of the views we'd had...

This place has a nice cosy relaxed country club feel to it! Master of ceremonies (day time) is Wayne, the proprietor (with a walkie talkie) and he has eyes everywhere ensuring guests requirements are satisfied. Very quickly you feel as if you've been a member of this country club for years. The evening is very much Graham (with the paisley...

The owners and staff were delightful. They tried very hard to have everything right. I think it was a little difficult for them as we were a group of 22. The food was amazing. It was gourmet and very good and also a good number of very good choices. The main lounge overlooked the lake. Un fortunately the weather was...

Gorgeous location...gardens pretty, room, great view but furnishings need updating. Lounge areas the same...lack of air conditioning during the humid weather, and dining room again needs modernizing. All inclusive tariff....apart from expensive wines....chefs very good, and dinner did stretch to sometimes 10.pm ...just one sitting. Not the greatest lodge in New Zealand.

We stayed in early 2015. Usually my travel agent does a great job as we have been to a lot of luxury places but for some reason in Rotorua, we were booked at a motel like place downtown. Upon arrival we looked up this place and Wayne sent someone to rescue us. We stayed in a luxury suite with panoramic...

Spent 3 nights here and would highly recommend, what a find, beautiful place, immaculate, nothing to much trouble, wish we had stayed longer as nothing else has been as good, lovely welcoming hosts, fishing on the lake the best day we have had, going to be hard to beat this.

We had a great time here in a stunning room in the main lodge with 180 degree views. The staff were charming, the food great and the fresh berries growing in the garden an added surprise. Just lovely.

Stayed for 3 days. Two villas as we were a family of 5. Wowed by the lake view from our villa. On the second day went trout fishing /fly fishing with John, the fisherman. Lucky enough to catch a trout. Next day went kayaking on the lake, easy compared to sea kayaking. Spotted black swans' nest nestled among the twigs....

As soon as we arrived, we felt the weight of the world float away. An incredibly beautiful setting, which I could have sat and marveled at all day, but there are so many great things to see and do in the area. Wayne, Ingrid and all the staff are brilliant at what they do. A fantastic experience showcasing the best...

The owners of the property, Wayne and Engrid, are lovely. The property is first class. The food and service is over the top. We also stayed at Huka Logde for two nights after staying one night at Solitaire. HOWEVER, we came back for two more nights to Soliatrie because it was so special. The boat, the food, the hikes, the...
