Seem like the rooms were newly renovated with a modern touch (something you won't expect judging from the classic building of the hotel). It was very clean, comfortable and big. The door however had the keyhole (which is no longer in use) and basically anyone can peep through the room from the hole (suggest to cover the hole with tissue... More

Until now I don't think I've ever deliberately avoided eating or drinking at a hotel I'm staying in...until now. The whole place reeked of frying oil, the fixtures and fittings were old and tired and the few patrons looked surly and unfriendly. To top it off a member of staff barged into our room (no internal lock) after the most... More

Tiny room with even tinier shower. Was supposed to have a room with a city view. Picture attached of the tiny window looking into another building. Location is good but for the price it's not worth it.

Everything you would wish to see is within walking distance. Very close to Dunedin train station and the Octagon. Very old building and lift. Small room but still comfortable and clean. Parking available next to the building

This is my idea of a perfect central city base close to all amenities, historic sites and other attractions. A short two minute flat walk to the Octagon in one direction up Stuart and a one minute flat walk to the historic Railway Station in the other. Restaurant and service is excellent and I value its historic connections. It is... More

The location is superb and the parking is good. Internet is free but so slow it's not worth it. However I was disappointed with the hotel - the rooms are small and the interior of the hotel feels like it needs a refresh. I didn't feel the service was particularly good either. It needs to decide if it's a hotel... More

It's a clean hotel. However, kettle was heavily stained: yellowish/greenish water stain, perhaps should replace with a new one Old building with some refurbishing work done on the room. Shower area: definitely still very old, same goes to the toilet

This place is cheap and is is really dated, but when you get in the room the decor changes and is more modern although the showers are similar to those on a camp ground. A more budget accomodation but would stay there again.

Such good value for a lovely old hotel (even if a wee bit tired). It was super clean and the staff were so kind and helpful. For price I would totally return - the fact that you can see glimpses of its beautiful past is a bonus. (Royalty have even stayed here!). Its slap bang in the centre of the... More

I booked 3 nights here in mid-September. I wasn't sure what to expect, but based on reviews, I was hopeful for a relaxing place to rest after packed days of activities. At checkin late afternoon, the reception was closed, but the bartender happily and quickly checked me in, gave a short tour, and informed me of the restaurant/bar hours and... More
