We stayed two nights. The owner was a fantastic host! We were welcomed with wine and a chat. The owner helped us with sightseeing suggestions. A lovely place to stay with great character! The afternoon wine was such a treat! It is a nice quiet place to stay.

My sister discovered this hotel last year and we have been back twice. Built as accommodation for the Christian brothers it has been tastefully restored, adding comfort without taking away character. The rooms were cosy and warm and the host managed just the right amount of friendliness. Great views from the wide balconies and from the guest lounge. Super clean...

We stayed here 2 nights at the end of June having booked tickets to an All Blacks rugby test at the covered Stadium. Would definitely recommend this B & B. Our friendly & helpful hosts Rod and Shelley, were very accommodating. Rod made us feel right at home as soon as we arrived. We were in Room 3 (the only...

This charming hotel is run by Rod the equally charming owner and host. You are welcomed with a fabulous glass of wine and given a wealth of information on the surrounding attractions and restaurants. Small but quaint room in a fantastic old building. The staff were just lovely!

We stayed here for a Saturday night on a quick trip recently. The hotel was warm and welcoming. Located in a great spot with lovely views, easy to get into the centre of town by foot and parking onsite. Our room was warm, clean and comfortable. The hosts are amazingly welcoming and fun. I will certainly make this my go...

An old building, restored to modern standards. It's a way up the hill - easy to get into town, and harder to get back (although taxis are cheap enough). Go to the highest rooms for the best views over the harbor. Rod is a great owner/manager - always fun and helpful, quotes Monty Python, and does not object when the...

My wife and I can highly recommend "The Brothers" to anyone looking for a well-located, boutique hotel with ample charm. Because of the building's historic nature, the rooms are small, but very functional and well-maintained. Owner Rod McMeeken is a fount of information and good humor, ready to help with any needs his guests may have.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Welcome to a special place in Dunedin. Relax in our European style family run Boutique Hotel close to inner city amenities with spectacular views of the City and harbour. Extensive renovations have been done to this former Christian Brothers 1920's stately residence transforming it into elegant heritage accommodation with 15 bedrooms and all with modern tiled en suites. The Brothers offers a mixture of convenience, history, charm, elegance and tranquillity, with the building retaining much of its original grandeur. Unfortunately the Hotel is unsuitable for infants, babies and young children under 16 and can't be accommodated. The Brothers is also quite different from anything else in Dunedin. The intention during the refurbishment was to be sympathetic to the building's history and wherever possible the original character has been retained. As a result most of our rooms are of a size often found in European Cities and maybe considered small by some. If room size is important to you or the prospect of walking 10 minutes uphill from the city centre is a daunting issue then other options maybe more suitable for you . A welcoming drink is offered early evening in the main Guest lounge. Book direct with us for better price and room options. ... more   less
