We loved this quirky wooden home and felt very comfortable there. We stayed in the downstairs room and were very happy with it - enjoying the tui visits to the garden etc. Richard and Anna were very welcoming and helpful in recommending various tours according to our preferences. Breakfasts were very good with everything possible offered, cold and cooked. All in...

We stayed two nights at Captain Eady's, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay - it was comfortable, quiet, and breakfast was lovely. Our room was not the 'lookout', but still perfectly good, with use of a shared fridge (with wine & beer) and seating available in the guests' lounge upstairs. Portobello is well placed for exploring the Otago Peninsular, with all...

The romantic place of Captain Eady's Lookout in Portobello had a touch of fairy tales. The old house, his residents Anna and Richard - she with a great musicianship, he very wildely read - and a garden with wonderful hidden places full of flowers in every colour is very romantic. We had a spacious room with bathroom, an electric kettle...

Very lovely couple, and 100+ Jazz CD, has a nice talk with the hosts, beautiful breakfast. It 's a shame that the house is under construction so the sea view cannot be seen as a whole. There is a very good restaurant 10-15 minutes' walk away from the house. Strongly recommend.

This is a beautiful B&B with charming hosts. However, we had booked a room with a balcony (the only one) and arrived to find the house swathed in scaffolding as the painters had overrun their contract. This meant we could not use the balcony and the view was obstructed by planks and scaffold tubes. We felt that the bottle of...

We arrived late in the afternoon and Richard immediately started with excuses as the house was completely scaffolded. Due to poor weatherconditions the painter had far overrun his schedule. However, inside the house it was really cosy and well maintained. We had a separate bedroom and sittingroom. As Ana, his wife is still working, next morning we got a very...

We spent two nights here in November, 2014. We were fairly shaken upon our late afternoon arrival because we had been totally unprepared for the harrowing (to us) drive out the Otago Peninsula (very narrow and curvy roads either right next to the water or steep hillsides with blind curves). We were already dreading the next day's drive in to...

A very strange place. Richard has retired but seems to have no interested in the business, Ana stil works and is juggling this with her day job. Ana is a nice person and did chat with us. we had to carry our own bags up the stairs to the bedroom which was the captain eadys lookout, as a lookout it...

We stayed 2 nights at this B&B (19 en 20 jan 2014). We arrived late ( in the rain) but we felt a warm welcome because Ana en Richard invited us in their living with the open fire and a cup af tea. They told a lot of their living and the environment. We slept in a cosy room, perfect...

How to start this particular review? Hmm that was similar to the situation when we arrived at the B&B. The hosts are nice, nothing wrong with that, but the atmosphere was a bit strange. We did not feel very welcome. The bread at breakfast was great as were the fruits, but the cooked breakfast just an ordinary bacon and eggs...
