We started our backpacking trip in Invercargill by renting a car and then driving to Milford Sound. There aren't many places to stay in the sound area, and Milford Sound Lodge is a great deal. We booked a few months out, but even then the chalets were already booked. So if you are thinking about going to New Zealand and...

The Riverside Chalets are beautiful and luxurious as befits the high price point. With beautiful glass windows looking over a turquoise river with soaring peaks behind, you couldn't want for a better view. The rest of the room is clean, modern and well equipped with a modern (but small) bathroom and a very ample kitchenette. However, unfortunately the rest of...

We stayed here for 1 night in December during a rain storm, occupying 2 bunks in a 12 bunk shared room for $30 USD per night per person. The place is basic but very functional. The showers and bathrooms were clean and spacious. The dining facility was adequate and served big portions at reasonable prices. The beds were like dorm...

Fantastic chalets for two people, it was a bit cramped for 2 adults and 2 kids but still good. Great location with the river and views across to the bush. Very expensive for what you get but I guess it's not a cheap place to run. The food available was definitely not up to the standard of the accommodation. We...

When we arrived we had booked the dorm rooms for 2 nights but they had one chalet available (mountain view) so we jumped on it. This made our stay so much better! My husband and I were exhausted from traveling and having a private room was such a lifesaver. The room is incredibly nice and very very new with a...

Great place to stay if you want to stay a couple of nights in Milford. We stay for two nights and both nights were amazing. The Chalets were very comfortable and the bathroom had heated floors! They also have a great DVD selection to watch at night. Food at the cafe/restaurant was very nice as well. Staff were really friendly...

We did our NZ tour in a campervan so if we wanted to stay in Milford this place was our only choice, which should start the alarm bells. It was $50 when we stayed for what is effectively a place in a car park. Now considering we are staying in a world heritage site our view form the campervan was...

We unmed and ahhed about whether to splash out on a night here. We thought we would appreciate not having to get up too early before our milford sound tour and that by staying we could get an early tour and really enjoy the drive back to te anu. We booked the bed and boat package which was the mountain...

We stayed for two nights at this great spot. We rented an RV for our trip so did not stay in the chalets, however, we met some other travelers and got to check out their rooms. Would definitely go this route next time! The views are amazing everywhere though, and all guests have access to the lounges and restaurant/cafe. When...

When you are told that the drive from Queenstown to Milford Sound takes 4hrs, believe it, no matter how good a driver you think you are. We arrived, tired, and found a sign for this lodge on the side of the road. Fearing the worst...that there were no rooms available...we anxiously waited in the car, our legs wobbling from the...
