The Holiday Inn Express & Suites Queenstown is often commended for its prime location near the city center and tranquil ambiance, despite the challenging hill nearby and some staffing issues. While guests commend the breakfast and room aesthetics, opinions on value are split due to concerns about extra services and parking. The staff's service receives mixed feedback; some guests encounter warmth and helpfulness, whereas others face slow and neglectful responses. Room evaluations vary, with accolades for views and decor but criticisms regarding size, cleanliness, and upkeep. The hotel's atmosphere is generally viewed as unique and modern, though some find the rooms basic or cluttered. Amenities like the complimentary breakfast are a hit, yet the restricted parking and housekeeping policies have room for improvement. Cleanliness stands out as an area needing attention, with guests pointing to issues such as unserviced rooms and insufficient towel replenishment.

Well its really 4.5 stars! We just finished an 18 day NZ South Island holiday and voted this hotel our best overall experience. The 'lost' half star is for the room (neat and tidy and newish but small, very small) and the mountain view which we paid extra for, but which was distant and mostly the ugly orange tiled roof of the apartments opposite. However, the included breakfast was great (even though supplemented by our own gluten free cereal), the in house evening meals (order at the bar) were both really appetising and good value, and the large foyer/bar/dining/lounge area really nice. It also stacked up as pretty good value especially for Queenstown which is an expensive place. Staff were very good too in our limited interactions with them. As stated the room was disappointingly small with little space to comfortably place suitcases, a tiny table and midget seating area, no room around the bed and a small bathroom in comparison to other places we stayed. However as above, the meals and common areas made up for this in our view.

Loved this hotel for a six night stay, which lived up to previous reviews.

The staff were great, rooms are modern style, well equipped with 240 volt power points and USB points to charge your gadgets.

The breakfast was great with a number of hot and cold choices. The Great Room, which is great, is used for breakfast and for the rest of the day is used for relaxing and to eat and drink by the fire.

The front desk doubles as the bar and the place to order food. The same staff provide all the services in the Great Room. The Great Room, makes this a standout from all the other Holiday Inn Express hotels we have been to.

The parking is secure under cover beyond a room key operated gate. Access to the hotel is through a secure internal door. A very well thought out design that would be especially good in winter.

The rooms aren't the biggest we have experienced at Holiday Inn Express hotels and I found the bed a bit firm, but even so, overall I would say it is the best Holiday Inn Express we have stayed at whether in Australia, USA or Europe/UK.

The location is close to town, and while the hill up is quite steep when walking, Queenstown has a very good and frequent bus service that goes past the hotel. Make sure you buy a Bee Card to use the bus because then the fare anywhere is only $2 and not $4, and if you have a NZ seniors SuperGold Card, you can link it to the Bee Card and have free travel 9am-3pm and after 6.30pm and all day on the weekends.

I definitely recommend this hotel.

This hotel has a lovely big foyer with heaps of seating and several fires creating a lovely atmosphere. There is adjoining outdoor space with heating and a fire. There is a bar and few snacks available. This is also where breakfast is served. Breakfast was simple consisting of various muffins, ham and cheese croissants and fresh fruit. Coffee machines are available to use through the day. The rooms were clean, spacious and had everything you’d expect including safe, iron, coffee/tea hairdryer and soaps/shampoos. There was heaps of powerpoints and USB charging points both in our room and in the foyer. The hotel has a sauna and gym and paid parking. There is some street parking available but is limited - I was more than happy to pay the additional $25 for a guaranteed secure, undercover parking spot. It was an easy downhill 5 minute walk into Queenstown. All the staff we interacted with were really friendly and helpful.

Spent three nights at the Holiday Inn Express hotel, amazing place to stay. Very functional yet all rooms spacious and had everything you needed, well thought out rooms, nice bathroom lotions and potions without the wastage of individual packets. The staff were incredible, friendly, professional. Big shout out to James on reception - not sure how many times i asked for help with the hot water tap, always smiled never a bother. Very impressed with how they were dealing with level 2. Constantly surfaces being cleaned, breakfast was served in, individual boxes and served with a socially distant spacing. Thanks for a lovely stay

This hotel still appears brand new. Friendly reception staff, good restaurant/bar area with plenty of seating.
We were staying in a disabled access room as required for my husband who uses a wheelchair. Some good well designed features in the room - fold down shower seat and accessible basin with mirror at a good height. Areas to improve on - no shelving in the bathroom to store anything, shower slide rail doesn’t come low enough down for a seated person to reach, not sufficient space next to the bed for turning around in a wheelchair.
The included breakfast is excellent with both hot and cold options, as well as gluten free choices on request. We will definitely stay here again.

Brand new hotel with modern facilities and within walking distance to town. The complimentary breakfast that comes with the stay was simple but satisfying. There is a very spacious lobby area with access to complimentary tea and coffee and the hotel also has gym and sauna facilities. On site secured parking is $25 a day but you can also find a free park on the streets around the hotel.

Big thanks to James at reception for the level of service. When we checked in, there was an issue with the reserved room rate and he was more than happy to accommodate the lower of the two. He also gave us lots of great recommendations for food, activity and the best walking routes to avoid some steep climbs back to the hotel from town.

Overall, a fantastic place to set up camp and explore Queenstown and would highly recommend.

Extremely tidy property with great facilities. All staff were warm and welcoming. Spacious rooms with comfy bed. Great lobby / hang out space with free tea/coffee/hot chocolate.
We went as a family group including our 18 month old son and this place was perfect.
We checked in early and they were very accommodating at storing our luggage.
Even had locker and drying rooms for any mountain gear!
Would highly recommend!

I note the large number of somewhat negative, recent reviews; BUT
I was impressed with most aspects of our stay here. We were in a std twin queen bed room at about $360 AUD per night, booked many months ago through Agoda. The town had a lot of No Vacancy signs around and was very busy with many international tourists in early January.
Check-in was efficiently managed late in the afternoon.
The room was more than adequate in size and even had 1 space for a full sized suitcase. Many 4-5 star hotels do not even manage this anymore.
A mostly pragmatic ensuite space but the mirror lighting is way too dim.
The working in room safe was appreciated as was the basic eutectic fridge.
The air con at 19 C (set at the lowest temp) and at full fan speed, mostly kept the room coolish. I suspect that rooms that faced west would struggle here and this was for days that were only around the low 20s C outside.
The room was mostly clean but a used sock just under one of the beds does hint that housekeeping here is still somewhat struggling. We then did not expect them to come in during our only 2 night stay. Other reviewers often flag this as a major gripe but I do not need such service everyday in a hotel such as this. Management however should do a full corridor walk in the early evening and note the number of empty glasses and cups left outside rooms and then all night and into mid-day the following day.
The nice soft towels were still damp when first unfolded. Management are you reading this?
I worked in auditing before retirement and this is what front line management need to be onto, everyday. Get the little things consistently right and the bigger things then can also start being better controlled. I know that getting and holding staff in this location has been and is still very problematic; but at near $400 NZD per night, the customer is also allowed to have higher expectations for this sig cost.
Breakfast was great = 10/10 and was included in our room rate.
Two laundry rooms are available; that need 4 x $1 coins per service.
On site car parking is definitely limited and the adjacent on street parking around is also limited and has stay restrictions; so I can see that this would frustrate many stayers here. We did not have a car.
A bit of a hill on the way home, walking up from downtown; but then the hotel is in a quieter location.
I cannot comment on the bar and evening dining but the large space(s) there appeared popular with other guests.
A solid 4 stars for me.

The Holiday Inn Express and Suites Queenstown is a fantastic place to stay. It's new, modern, well designed and has everything you need.
I have stayed in Queenstown many times and highly rate this location. It's very close to town - only takes 5-10 minutes to walk in. Even though our room looked over the main road (and out to the lake), it was very quiet. The beds were comfortable and there was a choice of firm and soft pillows. There was one slight issue - the walls of the bathroom are frosted/patterned glass and you might be able see the silhouette of the person using the bathroom.
The buffet breakfast (included in the room rate) had lots of options (hot and cold) and was very good. Nice to sit down in the restaurant to eat.
We received excellent service from everyone we dealt with at the hotel. They were so friendly and helpful (especially Kylie who gave us great recommendations!).
Highly recommend staying at this hotel.

If you're after luxury accommodation at an unbelievably affordable rate, look no further. The Holiday Inn Express is absolutely top notch.
The staff are extremely friendly, professional and efficient and the location is hard to beat, 2 minute walk to town, and less than 10 minute drive to the airport.
I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

No. Not very common in NZ. If you have a rental car, they have paid parking onsite but it’s optional. They have off street parking but very hard to find an available parking. I’ve stayed here a few times and I always opt for paid parking as it is very secure.
