Good hotel, close to Queenstown and the airport and different selections of restaurant. Free parking if you get one on the streets, is is also close to a good golf course for those who likes golf.
We went to the Chinese restaurant on the corner and my friends food was great, mine was okay however the appetizers was amazing. Also the sports bar was nice.
The room was great, beds were comfortable, clean, and if you decide to stay longer then one night you have a fridge and stove to make you one breakfast or dinner
Our sink was leaking but Brandon in the receptions called the handy man who came with in 5 minutes to fix it. Great service from both of them.

The only thing I had as a problem with was the breakfast, we paid $25 per person. For that price the breakfast did not meet the expectations. I expect a larger selections of cheese, ham, fruit and müssli. But maybe I’m spoiled from European breakfasts?

Thank you anyway for a good stay

The hotel is in Queenstown, but it is out of town, on the other side of Lake Wakatipu. It is walking distance from the airport and about 9km to the main street in the CBD (quite a pleasant walk if you have the time). The location is perfect if you are using it as a base to see Milford Sound/Mt Cook etc., as there is a bus pickup nearby, however it is probably not the right stay if you are wanting to party in town each night. The hotel has a $5 ferry, or an Uber is $30-35, each way.

The hotel was as expected and the rooms were very comfortable (although the instant coffee was a let down!) Service was slow and the hotel is missing some QC - check out the photos from the room service menu (vodka listed instead of house red, dinner listed as dessert etc.) and my bathroom had a slow leak, but all very minor in the scheme of things.

I weighed up whether to give this a 3 or 4 rating and in the end the nice rooms and good rate won out. Note wifi is pay for use for non members and was not cheap.

There is nothing wrong with this hotel. It offers relatively new and well kept accommodations with the usual amenities. The service was, overall, good.

We did not like however its remoteness. While only few kms away from the airport a taxi still charged us a significant amount. To get to town one needs a taxi or can take the water shuttle as we did on the last day of our stay. However, the first shuttle is quite late in the morning (after all the day tours depart) and if the water is too choppy it would be cancelled anyway. Finally, when we asked if the hotel has a pool, we were informed that we can use the one at the Hilton next door. Quite frankly it was not very inviting to walk from one building to another.

The best thing about this hotel is that the rooms have kitchenettes, including a very small oven. Very close to Jacks Point Golf Course and Kelvin Heights golf course, only about 15 minutes to Millbrook golf course. You do need transport to stay at this hotel, it is not close to downtown Queenstown. Very close to two very large shopping complexes, but not really tourist shopping. If you are travelling by car you should pay the extra for a car park as parking around the hotel is minimal and could require a long walk, especially with luggage. Several restaurants in the complex also a small deli which sells basics ie bread and milk.

From the genuinely warm welcome to departure, we had a stand out experience. Our room was large, airy, light, quiet and well appointed, with very comfortable beds.. The location right on the lake was perfect for us - close to the airport and nicely away from the business of Queenstown central, though with a regular private ferry dropping you right in town.
Drinks at the outdoor bar areas around the fire was a perfect way to start the night and the food at the Grill was excellent.

Didn’t expect such poor customer service from Hilton.
I was travelling with baby & even after requesting for clean kettle no one bothered to change the dirty electric kettle provided. The care line kept saying will send someone and they sent another dirty one that when showed to the housekeeping went to get a clean one but never returned.

Double tree offers cookies at check in but was not provided at Queenstown one...
No early check in... room was not ready till 3pm.

Have been to double tree Hilton in US with good service and that’s the reason chose it for NZ trip but such a shame !
Customers if u want service... look for other options!

Earlier this month, I booked a stay at the DoubleTree, but got to stay at the main Hilton hotel next door instead.

What happened?

This hotel is actually closed. The Hilton website is still taking reservations for this hotel, but when you show up, you'll find the hotel doors locked. Signs point you to the Hilton. The check-in team told me they are essentially upgrading all people who book at the DoubleTree to the main Hilton hotel.

So for now, if the Hilton website continues to let you book a room at the DoubleTree, you'll get discounted access to a room at the five-star Hilton hotel. I checked, I saved $84 dollars per night.

We were prepared for this to be a somewhat budget experience because we didn’t want to pay $700+ p/night at other similar hotels in the area BUT what we got was worse than budget. Shower scum on the walls, mould around the sink that I cleaned off myself, ripped chair, shower curtain that dripped water on the floor, flat pillows and a bed that the springs were poking into my back. The staff removed the soap, didn’t replace towels, forgot to replenish toilet paper and tea bag’s despite that we even asked at Reception. Guess they forgot. Oh and the bed only gets made every 2-3 days. We’ve stayed at a number of Hilton hotels in previous travels and this is seriously the worst by a far margin. Hilton brand you can do so much better.

The whole hotel smelted like powdered carpet deodoriser. The room was clean and functional with all the basic necessities. Note that the shower is over the bath with no rail, so avoid if you need rails.
There were no visibly available in room services. That could be due to covid??
The beds were way too soft for our liking and meant we didn't sleep well. Parking is $16 a day and WiFi expensive at $10 a day.
On arrival we needed to ask again for the kind need to be split in two, even though it was requested in the booking.
Overall it was a clean and nice place to have as a base but lacked the extra touches that we'd expect from a Hilton hotel.

Staff unhelpful, fobbing off or ignoring requests. Noisy rooms. Insecure internet. No USB charge points. No early check-in. Less than expected breakfast quality. This hotel is in a good location, and this is why we chose it, paying far more than other hotels, but the quality of the facilities and the attitude of the front desk staff make this worth avoiding in future.

The deal we had did include free parking and breakfast but unless it is included usually no. However there is usually free parking on the street or I think for about $16NZ you can book parking in the hotel. Breakfast prices in the Wakatipu Grill are reasonable.

How late does the water taxi run to and from downtown? Where can a time table be found?
Answer from Stephen311
Kettering, United Kingdom376 contributions74 helpful votes
The times should be listed on a sign if you go down to the waterfront and head to the pier. You just need to walk down the steps to the waterfront and it should be there. There's also a sign in central Queenstown which details all of the times. From Queenstown, I believe the latest is 9.45pm although there is a 10.45pm one on Friday and Saturday only. From the hotel, I believe the last taxi is 9.15pm.
