Over $400 for one night including breakfast and parking and we're underwhelmed. Rooms are refurbished, but you could have fooled us, very meh decor, old shower over bath combo with a shower curtain (very upmarket) with very poor pressure (seriously bad) and hot water that comes and goes, single glazed windows, rattily old air conditioning (that kept us awake most of the night) and a massive gap between the power point and tiles (dangerous in a bathroom!). The best bit though is zero sound proofing, so we got to hear the couple in the next room talking etc, not a low muffle, but word for word, totally not acceptable in a hotel of this standard. We had to sign a waiver on checking in that we wouldn't smoke (never have) which was strange, as the hotel is "smoke free" yet the table on our deck contained a custom ashtray with dirty black marks from smokers, nice touch............. Came down for breakfast and it was packed as they appeared to be understaffed despite 100% occupancy (ie they knew this was coming). We got asked to wait (with a lot of others) but that was not problem, and we asked could just grab a coffee while we were waiting & we'd read the paper etc, got abruptly told no by a very stressed lady who appeared to be the manager, despite being able to see filter coffee sitting on the buffet table, a poor way to treat customers obliging you with a wait, saw a few others being treated the same way as we were herded into a holding pen. For a hotel buffet the breakfast was very fresh and tasty & with a wide selection. The check in staff were lovely as well, but unfortunately this hotel is a long way off the star rating they purport to.…
We enjoyed our stay so much at Christmas that we decided to go back while the temperature is still warm. Another lovely stay at this hotel with amazing views, with a nicely sized balcony, extremely close to town & restaurants & wonderful staff, especially Gabriela. Rooms cleaned to a great standard daily. Only downsize was the gym, the only treadmill was out of order the 4 days we were there, but at least the two crosstrainers were working.
Stayed for 3 nights earlier this month. Lovely room, exquisite views, great helpful staff. So close to the main shopping area and eateries, no complaints and would definitely stay again, hopefully later this year.
DATE OF STAY: end of February 2020 ROOMS: 4.5 stars STAFF: 5 stars VIEWS: 5 stars ON-SITE LAUNDRY/PRICE: 5 stars LOCATION: 5 stars - the location is 1000% worth it IHG: We booked this room solely with our points from the IHG credit card sign on bonus. This was our 3rd stay with IHG families and I was sorely disappointed with previous stays, never honoring our request to early check-in (even though it was on the reservation) and no one acknowledged elite status. However, Crowne Plaza COMPLETELY changed my mind/thoughts after our stay. STAFF: The staff was so friendly and helpful - elite status acknowledged with complimentary drinks at the bar and upgraded WiFi. Early Check-in request was immediately acknowledged, without us asking, which was not on par with the other IHG properties we had stayed at. And quite a HUGE deal as we had a 12-hour flight from LAX overnight to Queenstown and really needed the early check-in as we got in at 9am! They assisted us with any questions: finding the nearest grocery, booking our shuttle/taxi back to the airport and knowledgeable about how much time would be needed to get through the airport. PROXIMITY: The proximity to EVERYTHING was what makes this hotel the most worth it. Many tours pickup across the street from Crowne Plaza or even at Crowne Plaza and it's such a short walk to the Steamer Wharf that has many different restaurants and dessert. The pharmacy is also close by and they have such friendly/helpful pharmacists there. It's also not a bad walk to the grocery store. It was great as we had a few early tours and breakfast was a quick walk away. BREAKFAST AT THE HOTEL: was ok. I think some would love it with pastries and make your own juice, with a juicer, make your own egg and you can order whatever coffee you choose. While touring, I prefer a heartier but low-carb breakfast and the options were limited for me as I can only tolerate so many eggs, but I'm sure most would love it THE ROOM: not all rooms will have a great view. We were in the back of the hotel so not much to see from our room, but no big deal. Our shower curtain however had 2 broken curtain rings and the fix was to loop together 2 loops on one ring making our shower curtain incredibly short and made a mess of the bathroom. We stayed there 3 nights and this was never fixed. LAUNDRY: We didn't PLAN on doing laundry our trip but I ended up needing to and the price was great! Their laundry includes washer, dryer and detergent!…
What a great location if you want to be in walking distance of the waterfront, bars, restaurants, shops. Very clean and spacious rooms with a small terrace to sit on. Lovely clean bathroom and very comfortable bed. No problem to store our luggage while we did a 6 day walk.
